Positive experience: I contacted the surgery this morning to ask if there was an appointment to see the dentist as I had horrible tooth ache, I was kindly given an appointment for 2.30pm the same day, once again I seen Sam who was so good with me and so understanding as I do get nervous, Sam took my tooth out, I appreciated being given the appointment on the same day and the professionalism of Sam and the dental nurse, thank you.

Fantastic experience: This practice is by far the best that I have attended. I joined about 3 years ago feeling very self conscious about my teeth. They put me at ease straight away with reassurance and a treatment plan. Everything was explained to me, the how and why and what to do to improve my gum health and confidently smile again! I am so much happier with my teeth and gum health now I wish I had attended here years ago. In previous practices I have attended I've been lucky to see the same dentist twice which really doesn't give you much faith and you know you're only going to receive the bog standard same old treatment. Here, I have seen the same dentist at every appointment so I am confident that I'm getting the best care. I would absolutely recommend and have done so for family. Thankyou Alder Road Dental Surgery

Negative experience: There is a slightly bad smell in the waiting area. The radio is on too loud, this is not considerate to waiting patients. The prices are much too high.

Fantastic experience: Both of my daughters were seen today for their six month check-ups, and I am so grateful for the care and respect shown by the dentist Sam Wheeler. One of my daughter's needed an extraction, and he was incredibly informative and reassuring throughout the entire process. He went above and beyond to make sure she felt comfortable and safe. He truly is a fantastic dentist, and I can not thank him enough for the excellent care he provided. 10/10

Fantastic experience: As a young dumb 20 something with severe PND and 2 babies my teeth did not get the care they required, something I heavily regret. I spent years knowing they were bad and being too anxious to smile, too anxious to look the mirror and even more anxious to go to the dentist. I finally plucked up the courage after a failed attempt at another dentist shortly before Covid. That took 5 years to rebuild my faith in trying again. From my first visit Sam W has been brilliant. I've never felt judged or blamed. Over three appointments we've sorted out the problems. They weren't the most pleasant experiences but they never were going to be (hence being so scared to go!) and throughout Sam and the team put me at ease. Now we've got the problems sorted I can look towards the next steps of improving my smile. My faith in dentists is slowly being rebuilt and Alder Dental practice has been a big part in that. I also love that when my courage suddenly appeared I was able to register and book my first appointment online at the exact moment I decided to just go for it. I am so glad that I did. Thank you :)

Fantastic experience: I've been visiting the Alder Road Dental Practice for more than two decades and have found it to be consistently excellent. I am of an age when as a child I had some poor experiences elsewhere when dentistry was not as advanced and the AR Practice has gradually dispelled my fears through their professionalism, dedicated care and good advice. The office team are helpful with any questions and very organised during the pandemic. A big thank you to everyone who works there. I would definitely recommend ARDP from my experiences. Updated September 2021: the surgery has undergone a complete refurbishment and all the latest technology is available. My dental and hygienist appointments went like clockwork and I couldn't be more pleased, especially with the staff, who were very helpful explaining in detail what was going on and how to improve my dental health. Only one suggestion: bike racks would be a useful addition. Thank you! Updated October 2022: Another visit which went so well. Didn't have to wait long. The new surgery is very clean and contemporaneous. X-rays taken. Treatment was explained well. A temporary filling was done without the need for an anaesthetic at the same time as the check up and the team worked hard to fit it in in the time available. Reception staff were helpful. Excellent service as usual. Updated September 2024: A further visit to compliment. Check up with good advice for future and excellent work by the Hygienist. Reception staff friendly and helpful. Thank you. Updated April 2025: Just been for a long session to replace a large amalgam filling with composite. There was some minor decay below and some of the original rebuilt molar had broken off. Dr. Paul Lockyer and his nurse, were excellent, informing me of what was going on and how long it would take. Obviously uncomfortable but that was all, so another big thank you for all you and your team do at Alder Hills Dental Practice.

Negative experience: So bad and rude stuff he speaking like very angry. He speaking very rude. She is say that is no appointment after three months so I never go out there again.

Fantastic experience: So far so good. I came here today as I have been really suffering with a couple of painful teeth. I saw Sam who took the time to understand what I was going through (I have seen other dentists who I didn't feel really cared or believe me!). I have a follow up appointment this week and keeping my fingers crossed we can get to the bottom of it.

Positive experience: a) What were your first impressions of the practice? My first impression was that the building externally appears small with limited parking, but inside the waiting/reception area was fine and the staff were very helpful. Interestingly, the name of the dentist to whom I was referred does not have his name on the list of dentists, either on the plaque at the main entrance or on the website. b) Were the team caring – and did they explain treatment well? The dentist with whom I am now registered is excellent and clearly explained every step of the planned treatment. The nurse in attendance was also very supportive. The admin team were helpful and one had confidence that the financial aspects were duly documented in line with the communicated plan. c) How does this experience compare to other dental experiences? I have previously been registered with an NHS Dental practice, where the turnover of staff was rapid and I hadn’t been given an appointment with a dentist for about 3 years, although I had ongoing checks with the hygienist on a private basis. I have just moved to Bournemouth and hope there will be stability and continuity as I have signed up to the basic dental plan. The cost of the private dentist service is a shock to this pensioner. d) Would you recommend us? It is early days, but after two visits and two further ones planned, I would not hesitate to give a positive view of my dentist and the Alder Road team.

Fantastic experience: I am a very nervous patient. I have extremely high sensitivity and struggle to see the hygienist. I had my appointment today with Abbi Roberts who is the most understanding lovely lady I have been to. She keeps you informed every step of the way. As much as I really don't like going to the dentist, Alder road surgery is the best, and I will continue to go. They are all so lovely from the reception staff to dentists, Abbi and the dental nurses. x

Fantastic experience: Very quick and easy to deal with. I had a filling put in 2 months ago and it came out. Phoned up Alder Road the booked me in the next week and replaced the filling with no charge to me. Great service and v professional.

Positive experience: I have been generally impressed during the three months since I switched to this practice. Everyone is pleasant, friendly and helpful, and the work done by both dentist and hygienist seems good and reasonably priced. (The dental work was NHS, which I had not dared to hope for.) One little niggle : the reception staff on the desk seem to spend nearly all their time on the phone with patients. That is quite understandable, but I feel there should be a system in place where one or other of them should be primed, when a fresh face comes through the door, to apologetically ask the person on the other end to hold very briefly so that they can register who has arrived, and, if for an appointment, direct them to the right waiting area. Yesterday, when I arrived for an appointment with the hygienist, they were both apparently completely engrossed, and continued so for 5 to 10 minutes, without catching my eye or making even a gesture of welcome.

Although he was nervous in the leading days to the appointment, on the day he realised there was no need to be nervous. Paul made him feel relaxed and no need to worry. Fantastic experience: I am really pleased to have found Alder Road Dental Surgery. We chose it because it was close to us and our previous dentist had closed but I wish we had gone to Alder Road years ago. The surgical staff are kind and friendly and provide gentle good quality care, you feel like your teeth actually matter to them. It turns out that I had been brushing my teeth wrongly for years but Abbie the hygienist has taken the time twice to show me where I have gone wrong. The dental nurses are excellent as well and the receptionists are polite and helpful.

Fantastic experience: I have just been taken on by this dental surgery. I was delighted to be able to register as a NHS patient (please don’t rush to call them, there is no more availability under the NHS!). I saw Sam and today he replaced a very old filling in a tooth that recently broke. I am a very nervous dental patient and he and his assistant made the experience as easy as possible. The surgery itself is very modern and smart and the staff all seem very friendly and professional.

Negative experience: Very poor. Awaiting call from Practice Manager regarding matter discussed before Christmas. Feel was coerced to move to Dental Plan which for reasons she is aware of is now unacceptable.

Fantastic experience: I'm very happy with the great service at Alder Road Dental Surgery as always. The ladies at Reception were welcoming and professional. My son needed teeth extracting prior to orthodontic work, and Alder Road managed to fit us in within a week. Sam was really friendly and patient with my son, and showed a lot of care towards him.

Fantastic experience: I have just received excellent treatment from Abbi, the hygienist. Two visits, one Friday after the other, to deep clean below my receding gums and around my teeth’s roots. I must admit, I had been concerned about pain and how detached my gums might be afterwards. But Abbi’s approach was extremely sensitive and also explained everything before we started and at every step. The anaesthetic was a doddle and I felt nothing at all. Fantastic experience: First impression was a really friendly greeting by the receptionist who saw to me really quickly. My treatment could have been explained to me on check in as I forgot what I was coming for. Maybe my fault but to offer a subtle reminder would be a good touch. I’m a private user so I can only compare to other private dentistry. What I can say is that I have never been over sold any treatment. Mr Lockyer is extremely fair and honest. Fantastic experience: Had to have an extraction today of a front bottom tooth, it had an infection in it, so the dentist removed it. Fatima did a good job and explained everything very clearly and precise, so was happy, and needed it to come out, so paid the private price, as I did not want to wait. The infection could have got worse, so it was important it came out, got a 5day course of antibiotics to help clear any remaining infection. Used this dentist for many years have always had good treatment. Had a check up today and discuss the fitting of top and bottom dentures, decided to buy the next level of dentures. Cost will be expensive but are much better than NHS ones. Start treatment next Friday, filling first then the first stage of the impressions for fitting. Explained very well, looking forward to getting a decent set of teeth, and get rid of the small plate in the front. Now should have bottom denture ready in 2 weeks followed by top denture in the autumn. Denture check today need to use salt water to clear red marks, on gum, back again on 22nd June for final check. Needed to do an impression of bottom plate as it snapped last Friday, could be repaired and back at the dentist Friday afternoon.Just a check up today and impressions for top plate denture, back again next Friday to have a filling and 2n impression.Just a filling today, and 2nd impression for top denture, everything went fine. Continuing treatment this morning antibiotics for a swollen gum, and checked new top denture Top denture fitted today will go back in 2 weeks to see how it's settled down. Just a check up today ,and a clean everything was fine,six months till next appointment.Just a check up today one or two minor problems but nothing,cleaned the teeth,Dilek is an extremely good dentist,so happy to return in late may 2025.

Fantastic experience: Just had two tooth extraction with Dr Dilek Karakus and it went even better than I imagined. She was very calming, informative and I definitely felt like I was in safe hands. I hadn't been to the dentist in over a decade so I was more than nervous about everything. The whole experience has been super professional but still with some warmth. Two extractions were done within 20 minutes and there was a great aftercare information provided. Will be coming back for my fillings.

Fantastic experience: First impressions of the surgery was, a very pleasant and clean modern surgery the receptionist happy and smiling although I had to wait for 5 minutes before seeing the dentist it was no problem, the dentist and nurse were very efficient and very pleasant. all in all a very good experience. Fantastic experience: The recently remodelled surgery is a joy to be in. It is wonderfully clean and tidy and all staff are welcoming and helpful. The treatment given is always explained and expertly conducted with the utmost courtesy and friendliness. I have no hesitation in recommending them fully.

Negative experience: Shocking customer service, I was 15 minutes late to an appointment which they rescheduled because of bad traffic and they cancelled and took my deposit. Been here for years and nothing, disgusting! I even called ahead when I knew I was going to be late because of traffic and no answer but I get punished for that.

Fantastic experience: I cannot say enough good things about this practice, the reception team are so efficient and courteous. Their scheduling never leaves you waiting more than a few minutes, Dr Jasper Westhuizen is just so brilliant with his methods of implants, yes it takes time, but it has been a pain free journey and the its just the fitting to go. His work is better and his prices very realistic based on my extremely bad journey at 740 Dental in Boscombe They even have an easy to turn to finance option. Never mind 5 out 5, its at least a 6 out of 5 in my opinion.

Fantastic experience: Usually I see Jon Shenton, but was advised by him to have a tooth extracted. It was very necessary as the root of the tooth was fractured and had been causing infection. This was done this morning by the orthodontic surgeon, Jasper. He was marvellous and made the difficult extraction almost a pleasurable experience. Made me feel so at ease. Never felt a thing!! Fantastic experience: I recently visited Alderroad Dental Practice and had the pleasure of being treated by Abbi, the dental hygienist, over the course of four sessions. I can't speak highly enough of her professionalism and gentle appraoch. From the moment I sat in the chair, she made me feel at ease with her understanding and compassionate demeanor. Abbi's meticulous and gentle approach ensured that my experience was comfortable and stress-free. I've had a bit of a nightmare in the past with a previous dental practice & hygienist so was apprehensive, but this was by far the best experience of this nature that I've had. Abbi took the time to explain each step of the process, which greatly alleviated any anxiety I had. Her attention to detail and thoroughness left my teeth feeling incredibly clean, healthy and dare I say it 'pain free'. I had two two broken teeth pulled that I had thought were impossible to get to without suffering a lot of pain during the process but the dentist did a very quick and efficient job of it and I didn't feel a thing! What a difference it makes to go private from NHS!!! Tiptop job!

Fantastic experience: Having not been to the dentist (out of fear) for almost a decade, my experience with Paulina couldn't compare to my previous dentist. Paulina has a perfect balance between being patient, explaining what needs doing and why, BUT also getting on with the job and doing whats best for you. Didn't feel a thing.
