I rang just before the weekend about mild toothache - they asked me to send an email/photos and then came back later in the afternoon with a response/advice from the on-call dentist. I was given an appointment for the Monday and at this was given an X-ray and subsequently antibiotics with full explanation of the issue and my choices. Excellent service.

Fantastic experience: Excellent first experience with Hexham Dental Clinic. Need urgent appointment after a weekend of tooth pain. Receptionist were very understanding and helpful to get me seen quickly. I was given an appointment 4 hours later. Simon Lee was friendly, professional and understanding of my anxiety and pain. He made a full examination with x-rays and he shared his impression with me, along with imagery of my teeth. This enabled me to understand what was going on and for us to decide the best course of action. He then removed a filling, found decay underneath and put in a temporary filling. There is more treatment for this tooth as well as treatment to some other teeth, but I feel very comfortable and relaxed about future appointments. I would highly recommend this clinic.

Simon is the nicest dentist I’ve ever had, so friendly, polite and constantly asks for your opinion so that he’s achieving what you want. He is really knowledgeable and answered all of my questions in depth which made me feel so at ease and confident in him getting my desired look! Fantastic experience: Today I had my first ever root canal filling. I was terrified, having imagined, because of the fear in others voices when they spoke about them and despite Jim’s clear explanations, that this procedure might be a bit like the drilling of the channel tunnel . . . but in my mouth . . . In the event it was completely painless and not traumatic at all. Jim was wonderfully calming, clear about what he was going to do, and the whole thing was over much more quickly than I’d imagined. I came to this practice, originally, because a friend told me that her children enjoyed their visits to the dentist. That seemed the best recommendation to me. I have complete confidence in my dentist and in the other dentists and hygienists at this practice and highly recommend them.

However having reluctantly invested in a private plan when the practice became fully private, I was not expecting to be told, on my first visit to the hygienist, that I needed work that was not covered by the plan. So despite paying £147 a year I was being asked to fork out a further £110 for a deeper clean/scrape. I have decided to stick with my agreed plan and forgo any extra work. Having been an NHS patient at the practice for many years receiving excellent treatment from my dentist Meghan, without paying extra for hygienist work, I am very disappointed with the steps I am now being asked to take.

Negative experience: A horrible experience with the two dentists, one of them was the business's owner and a dentist as well. We made an appointment for my daughter's wisdom teeth to be examined, and the check was in less than two minutes. The owner dentist then advised me that she could require an appointment with a hygienist. While we were coming to check her wisdom teeth due to ongoing discomfort, instead we were urged to book a hygienist, which extra treatment (sort of more money for her as owner). Despite not doing any x-rays to determine the nature of the issue, she charged us £75 for a two-minute check. Well, we had a book, and while we were hoping it might help, this turned out to be the worst and gave me more anxiety. Sadly, the hygienist was much more unpleasant and harsher than the previous dentist. She hardly worked for five minutes, and my daughter left the same way she had entered, after which she had to pay an additional £50. This shows that they are plainly ignorant of the proper course of action. called back to request to speak with a manager? to learn that the manager is the same dentist who examined my daughter for two minutes without showing any concern or attention. My daughter had sickness and suffered the next day as a result of this horrible treatment. It's best to stay away from them and avoid using this practice; it won't be worth your time or money. After reviewing your comments, however, we’re a little confused and concerned, as some of the details you’ve shared don’t seem to match the services or structure of our practice:
1. Practice Ownership: You mentioned the owner dentist is female, but our practice is owned and operated by a male dentist.
2. Fees: The fees quoted in your review are significantly different from the prices we charge for both dental examinations and hygienist appointments.
3. Management: You referred to the dentist also acting as the practice manager, which is not the case here. We have a dedicated practice manager who is separate from our clinical team.
4. NHS and Amalgam Fillings: As a private practice, we do not offer NHS services, nor do we use amalgam fillings.
Given these discrepancies, it’s possible there may have been some confusion or perhaps this review pertains to another dental practice. We genuinely want to address any concerns you have, so if this was your experience with us, we’d be grateful if you could contact us directly to discuss it further and ensure everything is resolved.

Negative experience: Absolutely disgusted with this dentist! “ Doing this behalf of my mum “ My mum, has been using this dentist over 18 years now. Since you have gone private my mum was a couple days late to hand the letter in as she received it few days before the deadline! We are super busy, and don’t have a lot of time and we work full time 9-5 Monday - Friday and we don’t have time to come out of work and do stuff! So we manage to have a day off, and we came to the dentist and that’s when you mentioned the deadline was closed. I’m very disappointed, my mum BEEN a value customer to your dentist! But you are completely full, when you realise there are people who’s been coming to your dentist for years and they are in the same boat as my mum and to find that, the can’t go on the list! I think it’s absolutely disgusting that you done this, and now my mum doesn’t know what dentist to go to now! Since you lost a VALUE customer to your dentist! ABSOLUTELY DISGUSTING!

We understand how frustrating and disappointing this situation has been for your mum, especially after being a long-standing patient of the practice for over 18 years. Please allow us to sincerely apologize for any distress caused during this transition period.
We understand that our patients have busy lives, and we tried to give everyone a fair opportunity to sign up for our private plans by notifying all existing patients at the same time. As mentioned in our letters, the spaces for the new plan were offered on a first-come, first-served basis, and we did not anticipate how quickly these would be filled. Unfortunately, due to very high demand, we reached full capacity within two weeks of sending the letters out.
It was never our intention to make long-term patients like your mum feel overlooked or unappreciated. We value every single patient who has entrusted us with their care over the years, and we are truly sorry that this situation has resulted in your mum not being able to join the plan at this time.
We do have a waiting list, and if your mum would like to be added, we will contact her as soon as space becomes available. In the meantime, we are here to provide emergency dental care should she need it.

Fantastic experience: My last visit to Hexham Dental Clinic was as efficient and successful as usual. I'm very sorry to be leaving but I wish to continue to use an NHS dentist if we don't use them we will loose them.
Fantastic experience: Lovely staff. Very efficient a friendly service. I would highly recommend. Just finished a course of dental treatment and throughout the whole process has been exemplary. I am delighted with the result and cannot praise Meghan and her staff highly enough.
Negative experience: Have been a member of this practice for years and had always been pleased with the caring attitude of Meghan and my husband with Paul and then Simon However, after waiting for 8 months for an appointment , a few weeks before it was due they texted to say they were cancelling it because they were changing to a private practice and i hadn’t filled out a form. i called up on the day i received the text and explained i had been moving home and thought i would just bring the forms when i had my appointment and that nowhere in the information did it say that there was a deadline and consequences for not filling out the form. To just cancel an appointment i had waited so long for with no prior warning, is disgusting and especially after my husband has spent thousands of pounds with the practice in recent years. The girl on the phone was not sympathetic at all, hugely dismissive and simply didn’t care. Worse still said i would have to now go on a waiting list to even join the practice which was just adding insult to injury. I’m utterly appalled. Shame on you Hexham Dental, the care and attention shown my Meghan previously clearly doesn’t apply to your administration or your receptionists
Fantastic experience: I changed my dental practice to be with Hexham Dental Clinic- and I am so pleased that I did. The dentists here are reassuring and gentle, even when you know there is serious dental work to be done! Hygienists are likewise- a brilliant dental practice all round- (including the receptionists!)

Megan was her usual friendly self which helps me relax when attending my appointments as I am very nervous patient. I had the filling replaced and was out within my allocated time.
