Fantastic experience: Lucia was absolutely amazing with my daughter who is ADHD/ASD. She was so patient with her, talked her through every step she was taking to clean her teeth, gave her breaks when she needed it and was so encouraging and friendly. This was my daughter’s first time and she was really scared. Lucia calmed her and was able to give her a good cleaning. We are so thankful and grateful for her patience and the wonderful experience.

Negative experience: I had a very upsetting experience during my recent visit to this dental practice. I am registered as an NHS patient and had my annual check-up here last year. At that time, I was advised to get some fillings. While visiting India, I had the necessary treatment done privately, as dental care is much more affordable there. During my latest check-up, the dentist was extremely rude and unprofessional when she found out I had received treatment elsewhere. She raised her voice and told me I should not return for future appointments, saying it was unfair on the NHS. I explained clearly that I was only attending for a routine check-up, not treatment, but she continued to speak to me in a hostile and dismissive manner. The check-up itself was rushed and lasted only a few seconds. To my shock, as I was leaving, she came out to the reception area and told the receptionist not to book any further appointments for me. When I tried to schedule my next check-up, I was told by reception that no appointments were available due to “staff holidays”—yet I saw other patients booking their next visits without any issue. This experience left me feeling singled out, disrespected, and unfairly denied care. I believe everyone has the right to choose where they get their dental treatment, especially if cost is a concern. I did nothing wrong, yet was treated with suspicion and hostility. This incident has caused me great distress, and I hope this review encourages reflection on how patients are treated, particularly when they make legitimate healthcare choices. Thank you for your response. I appreciate the clarification around NHS clinical standards and the importance of continuity of care. However, I feel the real issue here has not been acknowledged — namely, the tone, manner, and behaviour I experienced during my visit. I fully understand that work done abroad may follow different protocols. My concern is not about clinical guidance, but the way it was communicated to me. I was spoken to in an unprofessional and dismissive manner, repeatedly interrupted while trying to explain, and publicly told at reception not to return — all because I chose to have treatment done elsewhere for financial reasons. I attended for a routine check-up, not further treatment, and deserved to be treated with respect, regardless of where my previous dental work was carried out. The check-up itself was rushed, and I was unfairly denied the ability to book future appointments, while other patients were able to do so without issue. This felt discriminatory and left me feeling upset and humiliated. What I find particularly concerning is the suggestion in your response that I should have my future routine check-ups done abroad. With respect, this is neither a reasonable nor appropriate recommendation for an NHS provider to make. Patients are entitled to NHS care regardless of where they previously received treatment. Suggesting that someone should seek care overseas — simply because they once did — undermines the core NHS principles of fairness, accessibility, and continuity of care. Patients have the right to make informed healthcare choices — including seeking private or overseas treatment — without being judged, penalised, or excluded from future NHS services. The advice given in your response not only contradicts patient-centred care but risks setting a discriminatory precedent. I urge your team to reflect seriously on how this situation was handled — not just from a clinical policy perspective, but in terms of communication, professionalism, and how patients are made to feel. Respect, dignity, and fairness should guide every patient interaction, especially within the NHS.

As was explained during your appointment, the main concern is not about where you received treatment, but rather the challenges that arise when patients move between dental care providers in different countries. Treatment carried out abroad may follow different protocols, materials, or standards, and as NHS providers, we are obliged to assess and sometimes re-do or verify work to ensure it meets the required clinical standards here in the UK. This unfortunately creates extra work and places additional strain on NHS resources.
We understand cost can be a significant factor, and patients are absolutely free to seek care where they choose. However, for continuity of care and patient safety, it is always best to stick with one dentist—particularly if treatment is being done outside the UK. This ensures a consistent approach, accurate records, and more effective long-term care.
Our team’s priority is to provide safe, appropriate care for all patients. We regret if the explanation came across as unfriendly or dismissive, but please be assured that the guidance given was not hostile in nature. If you prefer to continue your dental treatment abroad, it may be more appropriate to also have your routine check-ups done there to maintain consistency and avoid duplication of work on the NHS.

Positive experience: I had a very pleasant hygienist appointment at family dental care this morning with lovely hygienist Alejandra Lucia who took great care of me! I asked for numbing gel to make it less painful and it improved my experience so much and reduced the pain significantly. Lucia is very kind and attentive and asks you if you’re okay throughout and says to put your hand up if you’re in pain or discomfort which I really like. She cleans your teeth very thoroughly but also gently and gives you good advice on how to improve your dental hygiene. She also has peaceful music on the tv screen above you to relax you and put you at ease. I would highly recommend Lucia as a hygienist. The only con is the expensive price of the hygienist which is £90 for 30 minutes treatment but I think every dentist in the area charges this price at the moment.

Fantastic experience: Lucia was very nice and made me feel comfortable. It was my first cleaning in a while and I was a bit nervous. She’s done a lovely job so I booked a clean for next year. She also answered all my queries and concerns about my oral health. Over all definitely recommend the surgery and Lucia as a dental hygiene specialist. I have no complaints.

Negative experience: Revert post FDC revert I agree I have not paid but you asked me to pay stating it’s urgent hygenist services which I should pay as 90£. I referred to check around other insurer as I trusted that FDC will be authentic organisation and if you are stating it’s paid, I have to pay so I should check if my company insurer covers it. I was surprised listening from them that in pregnancy I should get Free services from you. Which initially per recorded conversation I have your receptionist said you never cover hygenist cost free. One question: Didn’t you guys ask me to pay for services. After reading NHS guidelines when I saw you guys are unnecessary asking me for payment, I chased you guys with multiple calls. When I got one appt, I agree it might be a mistake with providing private booking but how can you offer person with full time pregnancy slot where I can be in labour. And till date no medical supervision provided with my GUM Bleeding inspite of myself being ANAEMIC. Summary: your dentist stating urgent with payment is then denying non urgent if covered by NHS. And that’s the reason I am calling FDC totally Money minded organisation ——-Before Edit——- I am pregnant and have gum bleeding and pain during brushing due to which I visited FDC. Doctor checked me and updated its all hormonal and tartar deposition on my teeth. There is no separate medicine for it but I need to get cleaning done asap. But I have to pay 90£ for same as its not covered by NHS. I checked internet and have shown them around being free process, to which initially they were reluctant but then offered me an appointment. Later I got it cancelled stating it’s private slot and free appointment slot is 1.5 months later when I will be full time and unable to make. Have I paid 90£ it was super urgent but with free NHS scheme they didn’t bother even when I am anaemic and have pain and gum bleeding. Now I got mail revert cleaning is not necessary for me and that’s my case is not built up as urgent. My concern is why it was mentioned that cleaning is required when it was being charged and why not when it is realised that it covered under nhs service. Seems like FDC is just interested in making money and not in supporting NHS discounted patients.

First, we want to emphasise that you were fully exempt from NHS treatment charges and have not made any private payments to us. During your consultation, you also mentioned that you have Bupa insurance, which you stated covers private treatment.
Your oral condition involves staining and tartar build-up. Under NHS guidelines, routine cleaning only includes a basic scale above the gum line and does not cover stain removal. Given the nature of your condition, we recommended seeing a hygienist, which is considered a private service.
The appointment on 19th June 2025 was mistakenly booked in a private slot by a new trainee receptionist. This was quickly corrected. This has already been explained to you during a follow-up call.
Please understand that we did not refuse to see you. We simply informed you of the next available NHS appointment. Unfortunately, you declined this option. It's important to note that an NHS cleaning is not considered urgent care under NHS criteria, and a wait time of five weeks for a non-urgent appointment is within standard practice.
We remain committed to providing care that aligns with NHS guidelines and appreciate your understanding.

Fantastic experience: I had a hygienist session with Lucia. I went in very nervous but Lucia made me feel relaxed. She was really friendly and lovely we even chatted away about being a mum. Negative experience: Discriminatory and expensive, my medical needs were ignored but the prices for potential future treatments were made clear. Getting seen for anything ‘free’ holds significant wait times, paying customers however will get priority. Left with severe untreated tooth infection needing hospital treatment. Dentist refused to take any accountability for the deterioration, despite being presented with active symptoms and ignoring them. Avoid. *Thankyou for your swift response, I only wish you’d get back so quick in private as you do publicly, as we both agreed I had to call for days to get a response. You did admit in our call, which I recorded, that I was not rude to your staff. I also filled all of my NHS forms prior to being seen. You very clearly stated, twice, that you will not see me because I ‘do not trust the dentist’, when in fact I asked for a second opinion due to the pain and swelling surrounding my tooth. I was refused, but could pay for a private appointment. As a vulnerable single parent I advised this isn’t an option. Your practices discrimination amounts from your failure to make reasonable adjustments for disabled patients as required by the Equality Act 2010. Staff informed my brother he would be able to bring his emotional support animal, but kicked them out upon arrival. The Equality Act places a legal duty on healthcare providers to make reasonable adjustments to ensure that disabled individuals are not put at a substantial disadvantage compared to non-disabled people. The response I eventually received lacks both clinical urgency and appropriate understanding of our circumstances, and I would no to recommend this practice to ANYONE suffering from mental impairment or learning difficulties, as extra support is not accommodated.

At no point were you discriminated against. In fact, both you and your brother were disrespectful toward our staff, including refusing to complete the required registration and NHS forms, which are standard procedure as guided by NHS regulations.
You were not charged for your check-up, as you are entitle for free NHS dental treatment. . Following your assessment, no infection was found in your wisdom tooth. Therefore, in accordance with NHS prescription guidelines, a prescription could not be issued.
Additionally, we are unable to make referrals after a first visit alone, especially considering that you missed a prior hospital appointment arranged by your previous dentist.
Please note that we operate under a strict zero-tolerance policy, and any form of rudeness or abusive behaviour towards our team will not be accepted.
*We do not agree with your claim that you were not rude. In fact, you were also disrespectful to our staff over the phone. We made the decision not to continue your care due to a conflict of interest, lack of trust, and unacceptable behaviour.
This matter is not related to whether the treatment was NHS or private. As explained during our phone conversation, under NHS prescription guidelines, a prescription cannot be issued when there is no clinical evidence of infection — which was the case in your assessment.
Additionally, we are fully aware of our responsibilities under the Equality Act 2010, including the duty to make reasonable adjustments for patients with disabilities. We also adhere strictly to our Zero Tolerance Policy and all other relevant regulations governing healthcare provision.
We treat all patients equally and with respect, without any form of discrimination. However, we must also ensure a safe and professional environment for our staff and other patients. Therefore, rude, aggressive, or abusive behaviour will not be tolerated under any circumstances.
With regard to emotional support animals, while we understand their importance, we must also comply with infection control protocols and health and safety regulations, which limit the presence of animals inside the practice. We are committed to providing inclusive care, but this must be balanced with maintaining a respectful, safe environment for all.
Fantastic experience: Professional and person centred, can highly recommend them. They spoke through options to keep the costs as reasonable as possible and we devised a clear plan together. I was able work through the plan step by step (and as budget allowed) with great results. It’s not often you can say a trip to the dentist was a good experience!

Fantastic experience: I had my first hygienist appointment at Family Dental Care with Lucia today and I can honestly say this was the best hygienist I have ever experienced. Due to my snaggly tooth that gets a lot of build up, I’ve had quite a few experiences with hygienists and have had some okay ones and some terrible ones but none have ever taken the time and care Lucia did. I told her about the issues I’ve had and not only did she do a fantastic clean, she also took me through why the build up was actually happening and how to prevent it. She also taught me how to properly floss and how to properly clean my teeth with an electric toothbrush in the most effective way. She was so patient and kind , I honestly cannot recommend her enough. Worth every single penny.

Fantastic experience: Lucia the hygienist was so lovely, friendly and informative. She explained so much about the treatment she was completing and how I can improve in my flossing/brushing. Fantastic experience: I’m a very nervous patient and needed a tooth to be removed due to an abcess and I can’t recommend them enough they made me feel so at ease and calm and took my tooth out no problem, I am now that happy with them that I will be attending all my check ups now. Fantastic experience: I was with Lucia today and I have to say I don't think I've had someone at the dentist who make sure I was this informed about what was happening by to my teeth as she did. She showed me a decent diagram of the gingivitis I was suffering at the time and I had been worried about gum recession for a month straight. She fully addressed my concerns and directly provided solutions to them in full. She left no stone unturned that I have to say I feel emotionally at ease now than when I went in. Throughout the hygienist visit she was thorough and sensitive to any possible pain I might have suffered.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic customer service! I traveled from Norfolk due to the lack of NHS dentists. I had three fillings with Sashi and a hygienist appointment with Lucia. Both made me feel totally at ease and each of them explained what they were doing every step of the way. Both took the time to give me extra tips on brushing and flossing, and at no point did I feel rushed. The NHS work was top quality, with minimal discomfort, and the hygienist did a stellar job. It was well worth the journey, and I will use them again in future.

Negative experience: Good afternoon owner, It is not a false review and definitely not misleading. We have copies of all email correspondence. Please check all the emails we have sent to your receptionist. We have requested to speak to the manager. Email has not replied and it is the truth. We have sent you a recent copy of dental record and X ray. Any dentists should be able to understand these medical information. All we requested is for your receptionist to double check with the dentist based on these medical report and with an NHS appointment at your clinic, can you please write a referral letter. Don't register as NHS patient with this clinic. It is a waste of time and money. They won't do provide any NHS treatment unless you pay private. The receptionist has not responded to our messages. Very poor customer service.
Thank you for your review. We take patient care seriously and always provide clear responses to inquiries. However, you are not a registered patient at our practice, and without an in-person examination, we cannot refer you for an NHS OPG X-ray just because you ask for it by email. Our records show that our receptionist responded to each of your emails with clear information.
You were informed that we do not take OPG X-rays at our practice and that referrals, if necessary, are made to Kingston Hospital. An assessment is required before any referral, which you have not booked in, we could not proceed further. You stated your request for these X-rays are so you can get treatment done abroad and this is not a valid reason for us to refer you on the NHS.
It is misleading to leave a one-star review claiming we did not respond, especially when our records show multiple replies. Additionally, we have noticed similar reviews left for other dental practices under the same circumstances.
We are always happy to assist patients with genuine concerns, but false reviews do not reflect the reality of our services. If you wish to proceed with an OPG referral, we kindly invite you to book an appointment for an assessment.

Fantastic experience: As a nervous patient, I joined this dentist as it advertised treatments for people like me. After a root canal today, which i might add I shook all the way through, I found the experience surprisingly easier than anticipated. My dentist was clear and professional. I sat for 30 mins and will be returning for more treatment. I totally recommend this practise, especially if you're a nervous nelly like me.

Fantastic experience: I was hesitant about the thought of a denture to replace a lost tooth, b the result was fantastic. The fitting was quick and simple and the small denture itself is totally unobtrusive. My only concern is will I remember to take it out at night. Dhanuja was great throughout the whole process.

Fantastic experience: I saw Lucia, the dental hygenist, and she was lovely. Really professional, friendly and thorough. She took the time to chat, point out what she was going to do and any problems. Then she showed me what she had done and how to properly floss/brush. My appointment was relatively painless, as painless as a trip to the dentist/hygenist can be! Definitely recommend. Also, I was quite impressed how diligent the reception staff were in reminding me about my appointment, not something you could forget about easily. One quick note, they do ask you to pay in advance rather than on the day of your appointment, at least for a hygenist appointment.

Negative experience: Have been going there for years and service is good. I had booked an appointment for hygienist for mid November and cancelled it well in advance and I only booked for mid November on condition that they will accommodate with any cancellations if it happens early as mid November wasn’t suitable for me because I being close to due date. They did call me last minute before cancellation and if I could make it but I couldn’t. I called to cancel my appointment almost 15 days in advance only to be told that they will deduct £2.50 transaction fee to refund the money. I wasn’t told at the time of booking about the same. I have paid money in advance and just asking for refund to cancel an appointment and I find this unethical to charge me £2.50 for cancelling an appointment in advance. Rather do not charge the patient so they have flexibility to reschedule or cancel an appointment in advance rather than being punished by a fee. They like 48 hours to be informed for cancellation for any appointments & being on time which is understandable else they charge you. In past I had hygienist appointment which was delayed by more than 30 mins and just was offered an apology and rushed my treatment and got me out in 20 mins while it was supposed to be 30-40 mins. Why don’t you deduct 50% and offer discount to patient for running late and being rushed into? I didn’t complain nor did I put a review understanding it can get delayed. Same way such understanding applies both sides and no such fees should be deducted for cancelling on time/ running late genuinely. Not booking hygienist appointment ever again to be slammed with charge again.

Fantastic experience: Just had a root canal done today and it really isn't as bad as people think it is. I had a broken tooth that had quite a bit of decay. My fault for putting off going to the dentist for too long. I saw Dr Dhanujah and my options were either a root canal or to have the tooth removed. I opted for the root cancel and I'm glad I did. Once you've had anaesthetic injection which you're probably going to have for an extraction anyway, you don't feel anything. Would definitely recommend FDC to anyone as they are all very friendly and professional

Fantastic experience: Great Professional Service! It was my first session with Dental Hygienist Lucia. Fantastic experience: I’ve had my old (17 year-old) composites swapped for beautiful, natural veneers. Dr Chellappah knows what she’s doing and is very knowledgeable in how your teeth and your smile would look like, once they’re done! I can’t stop smiling ☺️

Fantastic experience: If I could sum up my experience with this dental practice in one word it would be the word. Amazing! From the first moment I contacted them regarding my teeth they walked me through the process and were so helpful every step of the way, the procedures I went with through them was a teeth whitening and a veneer replacement. I personally saw Dr Dhanuja and I cannot express how good of a job her and her team did. They gave me back a smile that I had been missing for a while and for that I cannot recommend them more.
