Positive experience: Bit disappointed with my latest appointment to be honest. Although I am an NHS patient, I did expect a bit more than a two minute check over. The dentist noticed a small 'pimple' on my gum (which I have had for numerous years off and on and which was checked over by Mr Shimmin my previous dentist). The dentist took an x-ray and said there were signs of a slight infection which came as news to me as I hadn't even noticed it was there again until he mentioned it. I was then told that if it worsened I would have to have an extraction as the tooth had already had root canal and a crown. I was then asked which of three options I would like after the extraction...implant/bridge or plate? I felt somewhat under pressure to make a decision there and then. As I have no pain or discomfort, I said I wanted to wait and see so left it at that. My previous visits to Marketgate over the years have all been without issues but this time I felt like it was a very rushed visit and I was being pressured to have an extraction when I'm not having any issues with the tooth or gum.

Fantastic experience: I am on a dental treatment plan and am extremely pleased and satisfied with the level of dental treatment I am receiving - in particular the meticulous checking via x-ray of what is required and thereby,what is being done, is fully checked out. I have been 4 times in the course of the last few weeks and post-treatment have not felt any painful discomfort. Thanks to all at the practice

Negative experience: Saw the hygienist - he was so careful and gentle - I’ve seen many hygienists and Ibrahim was by far the best

Fantastic experience: After moving to Lancaster two years ago, my husband and I were finally able to register for a dentist more local to us. We had our first appointments yesterday and I couldn't be happier. I've always had a nervousness about the dentist, partially due to several bad experiences in the past. I've also found in the past that due to being an NHS patient I've always just been given the absolute bare minimum. This was absolutely not the case here, Saad was fantastic, very friendly and professional. He talked me through everything he did before he did it and was very reassuring throughout. I feel like he did his absolute utmost to ensure I got a thorough check up and he also told me a tooth that I had previously been told would need extraction could be saved and did a temporary filling on that tooth in the same appointment. Every member of staff we interacted with was lovely, polite and professional. I could not recommend this dentist and Saad in particular enough!

Fantastic experience: Toby had been my dentist several years ago in Kendal, after a bit of a search, i'm very glad to find him again...best dentist i've ever had! 5⭐ Update - I've been a few times now, hands down the best dentist & so far, they always manage to squeeze me in when I need an emergency appointment. The practice isn't local to me (I travel down from Cumbria) but it is worth it for superior care.

Negative experience: Actual dentistry very good but charged £95 for not more than a 5 minute brief clean & inspection is scandalous.

Fantastic experience: Marketgate Dental Practice has a calm atmosphere, has experienced and friendly staff and provides an excellent service. My family and I have been patients for many years and we would not change anything.

Fantastic experience: I have found the practice has given me and my partner excellent service from booking appointments through to treatment, advice and follow up service. We have had treatment from a number of different dentists since signing up but my regular dentist Toby and his assistants have been exemplary.

Positive experience: good Xray, good filling of chipped tooth, but knowing that there would be problems perhaps because of a tooth next to the one with the chip. Not told when I should return to finish the NHS treatment?

Positive experience: I recently visited Marketgate Dental Practice for a dental hygiene appointment. While my experience wasn't terrible, I found the service really lacking in professionalism and overall quality. It didn't meet my expectations, and I wouldn't choose to return or recommend the service to others.

Fantastic experience: 6 monthly check up on 23rd may arrived at 10.10 i was straight in,full oral health check, clean and polish, rinse, chat about what i want for my next appointment, done and dusted.Superb service by Punam and Nicola. Went for my 6 month check up 12th August had to wait 20 minutes to be seen, i don't mind, as with most places that are good to excellent, you cannot just walk in and be attended to. Very thorough examination, with time allocated to listen to my responses. Followed by a clean and polish(the bit i detest) performed quickly and considerately. I can't fault the service. 5☆ So glad I joined MG dental practice when I moved to Lancaster in 2011. Punam Kochar is the best dentist I have had. Excellent service. I have moved to Staynall now but would not dream of leaving here everyone is so welcoming and helpful,hope the new corporate ownership doesn't spoil it. Update Finished my treatment last week, exceptionally good you feel really looked after at this practice. Just had a couple of fillings done on Friday 15th September. Excellent service from Punam and Nicola. So relaxing, and it isn't often you can say that. Great teamwork and professionalism. Thanks. Update 15th march 24 Check up and clean and polish, discussed my partial as it is just becoming a bit looser on the fitting front. Deciding to use fixative for a bit, will redo the partial in a few months fingers . Thank you Punam and Nicola. ***** Update 12th April 24 Had to go back as a tooth from my partial denture came off. I went in on tuesday, did a check and re-mould and asked to come back on 12th am. Partial fitted and checked,all good,off i went. Super service i cannot recommend this dentist enough. Update September 20th 2024 Check up today clean and polish and x rays, discovered white spot on tongue . Cleaning it and going back for check up. 2 weeks. I've also looked for a better electric toothbrush. The number 1 survey winner is MauArcher so ordered 1. Thanks to Punam and Nicola for their care and attention, the gold medal winners at Marketgate Dental.

Fantastic experience: Excellent service as always at Marketgate Lancaster. All the staff are very professional, polite and courteous. The whole practice is always very clean. Was attended to very promptly with no wait at all, Also sent reminders a few days to appointment so I wouldn't miss it. Whole procedure was smooth and completely painless. Fantastic experience: Edit as asked to complete review after recent attendance, I’d like to add a complement to Punam’s assistant Nicola, who is warm, friendly and professional. Marketgate has been my family dentist since the days of Mr Stirrup and Mr Weald. After moving away then back again I was fortunate to be allocated Mrs Kocchar and now my young family all attend this practice. Mrs Kocchar has a lovely manner, and she is friendly, gentle, professional and efficient, I would highly recommend her. All the treatment and advice we have had has been fantastic. The environment is meticulously clean. They don’t try to make you have treatment that is unnecessary here either. My children will now sit happily and have their mouth checked due to our regular 6 monthly checks with Mrs Kocchar since they were aged one or so. I definitely recommend this practice, and I think the other reviews speak for themselves.

Fantastic experience: Update March 2025 Yet again Ibrahim and his lovely nurse, (sorry I didn't get her name) were kind, respectful and put me at ease for a very thorough hygiene treatment. I have confidence that I always receive the best possible care and treatment with a friendly welcome. As a wheelchair user, I appreciate the new, more accessible premises. I have been a patient with this practice for over 50 years. Update March 2024 I met Greeshma the hygienist for the first time. I can honestly say that I actually enjoyed the visit.Good advice, and a gentle friendly manner, so very kind and thorough.. Update June 2024, Yet again excellent care and advice from Irina. I was pleased to see that the plant in the waiting room had been moved to give better access to the lower level of the reception desk. Thank you. Update September 2024: Ibrahim, hygienist, was kind and very helpful. He gave some useful advice on my ongoing routine. Unfortunately the wheelchair lift had a problem and I had to ask a member of the public to alert reception about this. A member of staff was soon on hand to solve the problem. Update December 2024 Excellent caring service as usual from Irina and her nurse. Everyone is very helpful. I feel that the reception arrangements could be improved for wheelchair users. The counters ar so high that the receptionists don't see me. Now that the check in is at the 2nd desk, there is no lowered desk for wheelchair users to access. Perhaps a mirror might be fixed in a suitable position so that I might be seen on arrival?

Fantastic experience: I recently broke my retainer, which Malmin orthodontist suggested to contact Markegate Dental. Upon getting in contact, I had an appointment the next day. The reception team are very quick and helpful, my waiting time to be seen was less than 5 minutes. The nurse and dentist explained everything very well, again with a very quick service. I was really impressed with their x-ray machine and the 3D vision I could see of my own teeth. I'm collecting my retainer the same week, so I don't go long without it after having braces removed years ago. I would highly recommend this dental practise.

Negative experience: I won't be coming back. I made an appointment online, and wasn't told that I'd then be expected to phone the practice and pay in advance of my appointment. Then I started receiving text messages demanding payment, threatening that my appointment would be cancelled if I didn't pay before 24 hours of the appointment. I've been to dozens of dentists and this is the only time I've been required to pay in advance so this is unusual. Worse though, when I got to my appointment, it was the most painful experience I've ever had at a dentist. I take good care of my teeth and during the cleaning session, the dentist poked their scraping tool into my gums and was very rough. It was agony and I had to clench my fists for about 20 minutes to stop myself from shouting out. I've never felt pain like it before. So I'm done with this dentist and will be going elsewhere next time.

Negative experience: Judgy, rude uncaring people. Came in for an emergency appointment found out I had a tooth infection, had extreme pain couldn’t sleep or eat, instead of helping they wanted me to wait 2/3 weeks for another appointment, the next day face was swelled only then were they telling me to come in, again didn’t do anything. Everytime I go in they are judging. How they approach things is inconsiderate and poor. They don’t think how they might sound and come out with rude remarks.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely lovely at every turn, from the dentist to the reception staff. Always helpful and reassuring, regardless of whether its a routine checkup or the latest dental disaster that's brought you in.

The atmosphere in this practice Is unlike any other dental practice I have been to the staff are friendly and the atmosphere is happy and professional . Fantastic experience: Our family all see different dentists at the practice, including Irina, Punam and Toby. They all specialise in certain areas of dentistry and are all wonderful. Irina is very patient and calm, she has been extremely helpful with some trickier things I have had to have done and is a real perfectionist. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Irina - she is fantastic! She has a real way of making you feel relaxed whilst having treatment ! I have had some painful issues with my jaw in the past, and Punam has always acted quickly when referring me to any further specialists. I always manage to get an emergency appointment should I need one, and find Punam to be very proficient at what she does. She is great at spotting small things that could potentially become a much larger issue in the future. My daughter has been lucky enough to see Toby as her dentist, who is just fabulous with children. He has managed to give her a small filling and she was still laughing at the end! This requires a specific special type of person to have this skill, and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend Toby to any adults or children that may feel anxious around dentists.

Negative experience: The dentist Dr Irennia and the nurse are very professional and polite The receptionist who book the appointment are very unprofessional and uncooperative I think he needs a communication skills improvement on how to communicate with patients

Fantastic experience: Had an emergency visit to Marketgate Dental Practice recently; my problem was sorted out the same day, very helpful receptionist arranged an appointment with Irina Tsepelin, whom I have been treated by for a number of years now, and Irina identified the cause of my severe toothache, removed the nerve from the tooth and booked me in for further treatment at a later date. All the staff were really helpful, and Irina, I must say, is absolutely brilliant , it is always a pleasure to see her and visit this practice. Fantastic experience: Edited again to add: I know I've commented before, but great service does deserve to be recognised. I had a painful problem this week that I thought might be an abscess. Marketgate fitted me in quickly, confirmed the abscess and prescribed antibiotics. I'm very grateful, particularly as it'll be Christmas next week and so I'm sure the practice calendar must already have been full. My dentist is Irina Tsepelin. Thank you very much indeed for fitting me in and sorting this out! I've never been fond of dental visits, but this is an excellent practice and I'm very glad that my neighbour recommended it. My dentist is Irina Tsepelin, and she is highly skilled, efficient and reassuring. The nurses and receptionists have also always been patient and friendly. Very highly recommended. Edited to add: I unfortunately had to make urgent contact this week because I'd developed a very painful tooth over the weekend. Irina very kindly fitted me in on both Monday and Tuesday, which was hugely appreciated by me. Both Irina and the dental nurse were very reassuring and kind in what felt to me like a pretty traumatic situation. Very highly recommended again. Edited to add: Irina and her nurses are still excellent. I’ve needed a couple of fillings recently and they’ve sorted them out quickly and reassuringly. Thank you, and still very highly recommended.

Fantastic experience: Having a terrible fear of dentists I came to see Toby, what a fantastic experience, he instantly put me at ease, took me through the procedure so I knew exactly what was happening. The pain I expected never came and I am excited to return for my next appointment. A huge thanks to Toby and his wonderful nurses.

Positive experience: OK…….but as a long standing (40+years) user of this practice & 80 years old do not appreciate being thrown off the NHS list; and, only able to receive treatment via Maxillo-facial Unit at RLI …..not able to make any further six-monthly check-up appointments

Fantastic experience: I haven't been to a dentist properly in over 5 years, and was very nervous to go in as I had really painful gums. Soon as I walked in everyone was really helpful, the dentist I saw was absolutely brilliant reassured me on everything and made me feel better, as my teeth haven't been best since getting pregnant, due to brushing teeth I was constantly throwing up but he didn't make me feel guilty.

Fantastic experience: I’ve had extensive work done between marketgate and Malmin orthodontics. Punam is my dentist and properly sorted my teeth out so I could get braces and now it’s all finally finished! My teeth look great, the staff are all brilliant, I actually have a really good laugh with them when I go, for someone that was terrified of the dentist and had shockingly bad teeth I now actually quite enjoy going! If you’re worried about going to the dentist then go here, I really can’t recommend them enough.

Fantastic experience: Good dentist. Hadn’t been to a dentist for almost five years and they sorted out some fillings and gave my teeth a good clean. No waiting around, my appointments were at 10 am & 2 pm & I was in the chair at those times. That is something I greatly appreciate.

Fantastic experience: Had some composite bonding redone by Irena and had an amazing experience. Irena was very patient with me during deciding a treatment plan and answered all of my questions and worries. Irena really pays attention to detail and you can really tell how much she cares. The results are amazing and I am left feeling so much more confident. The reception staff and dental nurses are also really lovely and welcoming! Really recommend using Market Gate dentist and also Irena for cosmetic dentistry!

Fantastic experience: August 24 - I have to sing the praises of Punam, my dentist who has been treating me for a couple of months for a number of issues. She is so very patient and kind, absolutely recommend her to all. She is a wonderful dentist and really puts you at ease throughout your treatment. Thank you so much Punam. I had an emergency appointment with Toby, who was absolutely fantastic. Despite the pain I was in, Toby put me at ease with his warm manner and approach. Highly recommend the practice, fantastic service and delivery.

Fantastic experience: Needed an emergency replacement filling- - got a next day appointment and this large filling was done there and then with great efficiency by my dentist. I have total confidence in her and the dental nurse. Thanks to all.

Negative experience: DO NOT RECOMMEND!! Made my teeth worse ended up with Bell’s pawsy in and out of hospital because infection on my gum because they had not carried out the first procedure correctly 4 months later still going back and forth now paralysed one side of my face . Definitely don’t get composite bonding from this surgery I have photos of what I ended up with and pictures of what the advertise false adverisement and no empathy!! Very unprofessional

Fantastic experience: Very respectful and kind staff. My doctor was a committed one. I had a root canal, and before that some fillings and each time the process was very smooth. Both the doctor and staff do really care about people and tend to take into the consideration people's conditions specially students and that is why all my expenses got subjected to 15% student discount.

Positive experience: Service and attention/explanation of procedure was good . However I consider the £200.00 fee for one extraction to be exessive in my opinion.

Fantastic experience: Been a patient of this Dental Practice for many years and have always received wonderful polite and professional treatment, Irena has recently very kindly been able to show me her professional skills, I cannot recommend her guidance highly enough, together with an approach that helps you relax from the start in the certain knowledge that she really cares and wants the very best results, she loves this job and is an invaluable member of the practice. She was always willing to help to address any concerns and the journey was delight not a dread, I thank you Irena and wish I could have had this journey many years earlier. Fantastic experience: I have been with this dental practice for many years and I have recommended it to friends and family. The staff are friendly and the dentists are excellent. I was in a lot of pain recently and the staff were very helpful, fitting me in for an emergency ‘same day’ appointment so the problem could be treated quickly. The treatment was effective and I am now pain free thanks to the fast, effective treatment that I received.

Fantastic experience: This was my first visit to Marketgate Dental Practice. Everything was excellent. Dr Tsepelin was professional and friendly, answered all my questions and explained each step. The reception staff were friendly and, the facilities were clean and had modern set up.

Fantastic experience: *edit: on my most recent experience much more communication was given, and I've increased the rating to 5 stars to reflect that Very clean and efficient. I've only seen the one dentist, Dr Ibrahim, who was very polite and very good at his job, but wasn't the best for a patient who is scared of the dentist. Not bad at all, in fact clearly a very good dentist who was thorough and quick, and perfectly nice. However he just didn't communicate about what was going on, and I was taken by surprise a couple of times, which was a bit stressful. It also felt a bit impersonal, which I know isn't the point of the dentist, but it didn't help with the anxiety. It was recorded that I am a nervous patient, which is the only reason I raise it here, so I somewhat expected more in terms of communication/actively trying to reduce stress. I'd give them 4.5 *s if I could, but I can't give 5 stars for the reason above - I have and would recommend them to others though!

Fantastic experience: I was very pleased with my treatment. I was given a very complete explanation of why treatment was needed, what options were available with costs and benefits fully explained and very careful advice. The treatment was done in a most prfessional way and I left feeling very satisfied. Excellent.

Fantastic experience: As a United States International student going to Lancaster Uni, these guys are awesome. Everything was super easy, took no time at all to schedule an appt, and getting seen was fast and easy. Everyone was super nice and the cost (at least compared to USD...) was very good. Was nervous about how dental work would be overseas, but they knocked it out of the park!

Fantastic experience: Recently joined Marketgate Dental Practice and had first check-up and hygienist appointment. Decided to join the Dental Care Memberships as this provides 2 Dental check-ups and scale and polishes per year with the dentist alongside 10% discount on all general treatments (hygienist). Overall, the costs are marginally lower than comparative Denplan prices so I was happy with this option. The Practice is clean and modern and the staff professional and friendly, thus far waiting times have also been satisfactory.
