Positive experience: My concern at yesterdays appointment, was that I was told I needed a filling, which was fair enough. However, I was not told about the cost of the treatment before hand, until I went to reception afterwards. Yes, partly my fault, I should of asked before. What with paying Denplan it's not cheap. Seriously thinking about my options as when I got home my wife went through the roof.

Very reassuring to this very slightly stressed 70+ year old. Explained everything without talking down to me. I came away with antibiotics and minus a wisdom tooth. Emma my hygienist explains everything thoroughly, provides an excellent service and offers advice. Paul my dentist, always make me feel relaxed and comfortable. Again, he provides great dental care and I trust him to provide any treatment that is necessary. If you have experienced traumatic dental treatment, as I did in my childhood with another dentist, then I would highly recommend Paul Smith Dental Care. They offer a personal and professional service. If that isn't enough for you...the staff also give up their own time to raise money for charity!

On the odd occasion we’ve needed treatment for something, Paul has been Second to none and I’ve felt very confident and not too nervous - he’s great at putting you at ease. When I first started going to Paul's practice, nearly 30 years ago, I hadn't been to the dentists in over 10 years due to some very painful experiences when I was young. Fantastic experience: I’ve been meaning to post this review since December (but for some reason it wouldn’t let me). I had my two front teeth knocked out in a gym related accident. We couldn’t get a hold of any dentist because it was a Saturday so my boyfriends mum tried Paul. He was cycling in the Peak District but agreed to stop what he was doing and open the practice just to help me. I had a huge fear of the dentist before Paul but by the end of having to have some pretty invasive dental work, I felt like I’d gotten over that fear. He talked me through everything he was doing, stopped every time I felt nervous, and was meticulous in making sure the final results looked even better than my natural teeth did. His partner who is the hygienist (so sorry I forgot her name) was also amazing and held my hand and reassured me through the whole process. Couldnt recommend them enough!

Fantastic experience: Worse nightmare scenario for one that fears dentistry: tooth broke off in gum exposing roots. I had no dentist was given an appointment within an hour of calling due to a cancellation. I was dreading what Paul would have to do to get those roots out but, although a challenge, he didn't hurt at all and I was quite amazed. I can't speak more highly of him and his staff.

Fantastic experience: I have been a patient for a probably 15 years or more and despite now living quite a distance away will never move dentists. Having previously been a ridiculously nervous patient who pretty much dentist dodged for a number of years, I am now more than willing to attend appointments as I know that no unnecessary work will be undertaken. If anything is required it will be done to a really high standard (so not needing to be done again in a short amount of time ) and in a caring and professional manner. My change in attitude towards my (previously rubbish) teeth is most definitely the result of the wonderful service that I have received from everyone at the practice -and I can not thank them enough.

Paul's demeanour, knowledge, care and attitude are genuinely exemplary. Over the years, I strongly suspect that had I not taken and acted upon his excellent advice about looking after my teeth and gums, I would now be the sad and sorry owner of false teeth! Because Paul has regularly gone above and beyond the normal call of duty to help me keep my teeth, I've never required nor had an extraction. In recent years, there has been a couple of occasions when I've needed urgent emergency treatment with little or no notice, and I'm very pleased and relieved to report that I've always been happily accommodated. I can't recommend this practice highly enough. Thanks Paul and Emma.

Negative experience: The website advises that the dentist deals with dental emergencies. It implies generally and not just specifically to its registered patients. This was not the case when I phoned for help after a broken tooth which remains were cutting into my skin, and even though I was prepared to register. I was advised to go elsewhere. So disappointing at the lack of help when someone is suffering and in pain. Thanks for your response, however I am not an NHS patient as you have surmised, and I did say I would register with the practice. Your website even advises you are taking on further private patients. An extremely poor service by your reception; fortunately I was able to see another private practice who were more amenable and able to remedy the situation.

Despite not living in the area anymore, I still travel to have my teeth cared for by Paul. I remember as a child always having positive experiences here due to trusting Paul and the friendly atomosphere from all the staff. My most recent experience involved my wisdom tooth being removed. I went in for a 6 month check up and was told I needed to have my wisdom tooth removed. The level of patient care I received was above and beyond anything I expected. In truth I didn't think it could be done right there and then! The procedure was explained to me, I was given local anaesthetic and the tooth was out in less than 10 minutes. I think if I had gone to any other dentist that I wouldn't have let them remove it because of the incredibly high standard of care I am used to receiving from Paul Smith Dental Practice. I would highly recommend anyone to come here for all aspects of dental care. The staff are helpful, friendly, knowledgable, experienced and take away any fear from dental care!
