River Specialist Dentistry

Negative experience: I have delayed leaving this review in the hope that the matter could be resolved; however, the situation has continued to be prolonged, and I have now had to initiate a Section 75 process to seek a refund for treatment that has not been completed. My treatment initially began very positively, and I was pleased with the care provided by my dentist. Unfortunately, the dentist left the practice unexpectedly—under circumstances that were concerning—before my aligner treatment was completed and prior to any bonding being carried out. This occurred in September. I post this review in December. Since then, I have experienced ongoing difficulties in trying to have my treatment completed by River Dental. Despite repeated assurances that my case was being treated as a priority, I remain in the same aligners 18 weeks later, despite them being intended for one-week use. To date, no bonding has been completed, and there has been a lack of appropriate appointments throughout to monitor progress. Given my experience, the outcome, level of care, and absence of timely treatment have been extremely disappointing. Despite there being talk of a refund, no refund has been received and I am not confident they will do the right thing. Regrettably, based on this experience and similar issues noted in other reviews, I cannot recommend the practice.

Positive experience: Always pleasant staff both reception and dentistry. Swiftly in and dealt with. Bit difficult getting through on the telephone line and over email the past week but understandable with accommodating extra patients at the Truro practice with the Penzance practice undergoing it's refurb.

Negative experience: Do not get braces here! They are a shambles. I’ve had the same retainers in for three months (ment to be changed every two weeks. I chased them for months and no one had a clue, the owner told me theirs been a break down in supply but could explain why the customer service has broken down so badly. I was promised a refund but haven’t received it. No one’s getting back to me. Honestly don’t do near this place!

Fantastic experience: We were really concerned about our daughter’s teeth. After waiting a while for referral, we are delighted with the professional, efficient and informative service we are receiving. The orthodontic assessment by Bhavnita Patel was excellent: she talked us through each stage of the process and gave us lots of helpful information about how we can maintain dental health through the orthodontic referral.The dental nurse Tiffany was able to take scans and pictures which Bhavita used to share next steps and fully explain and reassure us. We have received a follow up appointment quickly and efficiently. We cannot be more grateful to the team for their professionalism and expertise. Thank you !

Fantastic experience: I wanted to say a massive thank you to the team here- especially Mohammad and his lovely dental nurse. I required a root canal due to a trauma on a tooth, but my normal dentist tried and failed to do it- the canal had calcified so much he could not safely or successfully perform the procedure. He referred me to this wonderful practice. They called me the following day, and I had an appointment booked in less than a week. Here I met Mohammad, who was wonderful in explaining what he would try to do, but ultimately there was a risk of tooth extraction if he could not. One week later I had my procedure date, and with his wonderful skills, patience and determination he found the canal and performed the procedure. No tooth extraction needed!- I was so happy. He was so professional and calming throughout, and kept me up to date clearly on what to expect and what was happening. His nurse was also so lovely, made me feel so relaxed. The practice is wonderfully calming, clean and headed by a friendly reception team who were lovely. Thank you to everyone, and I cannot rate this place enough. Leah

Negative experience: Personally i wouldn’t recommend, this orthodontist, don’t get me wrong the staff are nice. However i was left with a massive amount of staining on my teeth, i’ve been left with straight teeth which is amazing, but they happily let me leave with dirty teeth! They told me to go and book a Hygienist appointment else where, is that not their job as part of the treatment?! As far as i know it is, how do i have more knowledge of this than them! I know someone who got their teeth cleaned straight after by them, but i was left to feel ashamed of my smile when the whole point is to feel happy. NHS can be hard but this place was the problem not the NHS, they failed to give me all the treatment that is meant to take place. I had mentioned it to the woman taking my braces off, who then got slightly defensive when i mentioned i didn’t get offered anything by them and i have brown staining. I am really unhappy, and there will be a formal complaint made on this matter. We have had to find another private, these appointments are impossible to find, and pay for their services, when it was meant to be free by River! The other private we have booked with were wholeheartedly shocked that i was left the way i was with no care by River. Steer clear, there’s many other places that provide you the full treatment! It isn’t worth the time waste. I am very unhappy and upset.

Fantastic experience: I was referred here by my local dentist as I needed a specialist to do my root canal - ahhh. I wasn’t looking forward to it, of course, but Mohamed and the assistant were really nice and I felt at ease and everything was explained to me. I survived and it wasn’t bad at all. I liked that there was music on throughout to distract me. Definitely recommend.

Fantastic experience: Was absolutely terrified about having a root canal on what's been a very problematic tooth for several years, but the procedure felt like it took ten minutes and was painless! Peter is a fantastic dentist, would definitely recommend :)

Negative experience: They told my dentist to take a perfectly healthy tooth out to make room for braces when I was 17 and not sure what was right so listened. Got my (visible) tooth taken out and got braces. In less than a year I went to get them supposedly tightened but was late on the bus so arrived during my orthodontists lunch break. He was incredibly angry that I’d disturbed his lunch so took my braces off there and then with none of my teeth aligned and the gap still very visible. He also didn’t give mr a retainer. I remember sulking to my mum about being bullied about the gap, and the frontal tooth damage from taking it off too fast, at college, but when I sent an email explaining what happened I got a threatening letter back which traumatised me as I was going to uni and didn’t want any type of court stuff not being sure if it would effect my education. It’s been almost 7 years now and I’ve still got the gap and still having difficulties in my life because of my teeth damage I received that day. I’m not sure what to do but I don’t go a couple days since that day that I don’t stress about what they did to my teeth. The cost to get my teeth repaired now I’m an adult would be the equivalent of a house deposit and I’m still to this day utterly mortified.

My son had braces fitted and he was supported and looked after for the duration of his treatment by a kind and friendly team who encouraged and informed him throughout. He is over the moon with the results. We would recommend to all. They are a wonderful, dedicated team.

Fantastic experience: 1st class service from both teams, Penzance and Truro, they listened to me and came up with treatment that was right for me. Very pleased with the results, I can now eat an apple and smile with confidence, which are things I have not been able to do for years.

Negative experience: The lady Dentist I saw re-cemented my Maryland Bridge and it lasted maybe 3 weeks before falling out then re did it. I think it lasted 3 months. There was a lot of white coloured cement on bridge and tooth. It was a terrible job for £150 I think. Tbh I think either she just didn't know what she was doing , was using inferior product or wanted a thousand pound out of me for a new bridge. I've recently gone back to a previous dentist of mine and they have successfully done it, explaining I may need a new one but it's stayed cemented for many months and doesn't have any movement. Shame this happened as I really didn't have a £150 to lose ! Wouldn't recommend or return sorry !

Fantastic experience: My daughter had her whole journey of straightening her top and bottom teeth with the practice. She was looking forward to getting them done, a bit anxious as this isn't her usual dental practice, but she needn't have worried. Everyone was helpful, approachable and explained everything in detail, which was good as due to covid she went in mostly on her own and had to relay everything back to me.

Fantastic experience: I was fortunate enough to win a completely free dental treatment plan worth £2000 from the River Practice! I'd quite recently lost noticeable portions of my top incisors after an accident, I also hadn't been able to see a dentist in years due to frequently moving across the UK. Sufficed to say, the state of my teeth had been really demoralising for some time, but even after just half of my appointments, I felt unrecognisably better about my appearance and so much more confident. Most importantly to me, every member of staff I met were delightfully friendly and helpful. They all helped to make it a very wholesome experience, despite the context which I can only imagine would have been otherwise horrifying for someone as phobic of dentistry as myself. To top things off, they even gave me a free electric toothbrush! I really couldn't be any more grateful for every aspect of the service I received and I'd certainly recommend this practice to anyone in the area. Many thanks :)

Fantastic experience: Excellent treatment and it only took a year. Lovely staff as well. My only criticism would be that some of the staff didn't introduce themselves before looking in my mouth. It wouldn't take long for them to say "Hello, my name is..." beforehand and it would put parents and patients alike at ease. Other than this it was brilliant. They fixed the wire quickly when it broke a few times and explained clearly how to care for each part of the braces process.

Which also have crowns fitted to them. I am so pleased with the results. No gaps and a lovely new smile! I found the aligners easy to wear, very discreet and easy to clean.
