The check up was through and I was very pleased I was able to have a lost filling replaced on the day ,without making a separate appointment.

I was impressed to see chairs to wait on in the front garden and, when invited in, I found the waiting room had well spaced out seats and carefully wiped every time someone left them. They always make us feel really at ease, and when further work has been needed it has been great quality and pain free! I saw Matthew Bernard as usual...it turns out it was the last time as he is leaving. Left my appointment very sad! Fantastic experience: I got a last minute appointment for lost filling and broken tooth, it was checked out, a plan of action to save the tooth was agreed, I was back the following day for some prep work, which was pain free, return booked in two weeks to finish off the work. Very pleased all round.

She checks everything with professional care and attention to detail and she even cleaned my teeth because I had accumulated hard plaque. I consider myself very fortunate to have her as my dentist. She is also always smiley and conversational so she makes you feel good as soon as you see her.

Negative experience: Having been a patient for the last 25 years, I was very surprised when I rang to book an appointment to have a look at a broken tooth 10 days ago, that I had been dropped as a NHS patient and would need to go private to use this dentist. I asked why I had been dropped yet my wife and kids hadn't been, to be told that I had been sent a text in 2021/22 asking to book in after the COVID restrictions had been removed. I never had a text message and sent them a screen shot of my messages dating back to 2018 and the I still haven't heard anything back from them to see if they will let me book in as an NHS patient. Even though I gave a 1 star review I would say that Tom the dentist needs to be given a 5 star review as he did see me as an emergency appointment and has seen me on 3 further occasions, I just need to be properly reinstated.

Fantastic experience: I was lucky enough to get NHS registered here, friendly receptionists and even more helpful and professional dentists, shout out to Tom, his approachable, knowledgeable and in all a top tier person, he did a great job with my brother with Invisalign, I got normal braces at a much higher cost which lasted 5 years elsewhere while my brother got Invisalign for much cheaper and was done within a year at a price much cheaper than others here, my brother then got me in contact with Tom after completing his treatment and Tom did me a huge favour and took me on, which I will always be greatly thankful for, I’ve been too may dentists in my time and this place is one of those that sit at the top, they are good people.

Positive experience: It’s an excellent dental practice. I have been with them for around 40 years. But the price of a standard hygienist appointment has increased by 20% over the past two years.

I really hate needles but she’s made me feel very comfortable while numbing my mouth the teeth came out with relatively no discomfort had some bleeding but first full day I’m pain free and gums are healing well thanks to her and her helper would defo recommend Went on Monday 30th to see the hygienist she was lovely and took care of me and gave me advise to how best to take care of my teeth to be fair they’re all very nice at the dentist and would defo recommend folks to go there see you guys in 6months

Fantastic experience: It is a difficult time for dental staff and patients but this dental practice has been very good helping us feel we will be safe whilst undergoing treatment. My longstanding dentist at this practice recently retired but Tom who has taken over my dental care is very good so I am pleased to stay with this practice. I have had further treatment from Tom at this dental practice. You know as soon as you walk into his treatment room that he is someone that wants to provide the very best service he can. Tom also makes good use of new technology to enhance his professional expertise. In my case, as someone who doesn’t usually have injections before treatment I pose a particular challenge for dentists. Tom makes sure he takes care when treating cavities etc so I am able to cope with it all. The nurse supporting him was also excellent too. Than you Tom and your supporting team.

Fantastic experience: Always friendly staff. Excellent dental care from Hannah. She is friendly puts you at ease, explains exactly what she is doing. She gave advice for aftercare. Hannah also explained the role of a dental therapist which was very helpful. More should be made of this new role and the range of the services they offer.

Negative experience: I’ve booked a dental hygienist check up appointment two days ago. I sent an email but no one is replying, they ignored me. Despite being a private patient at the clinic—based on the team's previously excellent service—I was very dissatisfied with this session. The cleaning was extremely careless: only the wisdom teeth area received attention, while the rest of my teeth were barely cleaned. Additionally, rather than conducting a proper periodontal check using an appropriate probe, the hygienist merely pressed on my gums and declared them “healthy.” This was deeply concerning, as I have previously required emergency visits due to gum bleeding—something I’ve always taken seriously, especially given my weaker immune system. During the appointment, I informed them that I have a history of gum bleeding and that I floss regularly. Yet they brushed this off and simply attributed past bleeding to stress. They then aggressively recommended an electric toothbrush, adding insult to injury. To be frank, since then, my gums have begun bleeding again when I floss. Stains on my teeth are not fully cleared. I feel utterly let down—your dental hygienist’s negligence and dismissive attitude are unacceptable. I trusted your clinic precisely because of your quality of care. The experience that day was, frankly, rubbish.

Fantastic experience: My long-term and trustworthy dentist retired, and the practice was taken over by a business. I was expecting it might take time to adjust to a new dentist, but after an abrupt examination pushing me into booking tooth extractions and other extensive treatments, I was left feeling old and demoralised. Thankfully, my niece had encouraged me to book an invisalign consultation with Tom Lotka at School Road Dental Surgery, which happened to be the next day. From the moment I met Tom, he made me feel relaxed, and I sensed I was in a pair of safe hands. That was two years ago and I’ve now recently successfully completed a course of complex restorative treatments with Tom that avoided extractions (and I didn’t actually need nearly as much work as had been previously suggested). My teeth were very misaligned, so I wasn’t expecting miracle results from invisalign, but Tom proved me wrong, and at the age of 67, my teeth are straight, and I’m not afraid to smile anymore. But Tom is more than a technical dental wizard,he is everything you want your dentist to be. Passionate about his work, honest, confident, reassuring, kind, and trustworthy. I can’t thank him enough for not only giving me my smile back but for treating me with empathy, kindness, and dignity throughout my treatments. Tom is also assisted by a great team of dental nurses, and the receptionists at School Road Dental Surgery are efficient, warm, and welcoming and help create an all-around relaxing environment.
