Positive experience: Been coming here since it first opened. 2010. (15yrs) as a NHS patient. Have no complaints. What i would say over the last 2yrs and thus 4 six monthly check ups. More Dentist going private at the practice, so a significant reduction in NHS appointments. Higher probability of cancellation , 3 of my family members had appointments canceled. Emphasis on you to have private work always the first port of call. For a filling likely to get an appointment for NHS up to 6 mouths with your regular dentist. Quicker if you’re willing to use somebody else even quicker if you go private within a week. I suppose we should be thankful that we’ve even got a Dentist in Alnwick. Compared with other parts of the country.
Fantastic experience: I am so grateful to Genix for offering me a prompt emergency appointment whilst I was on holiday. From speaking to the receptionists to attending the appointment, all was simple and flawless. The dentist took time to explain the problem and offered advice and appropriate treatment. If I lived closer I'd certainly register with Genix
Fantastic experience: Attended as an emergency out of area. Staff were fantastic, very helpful from start to finish. Would highly recommend. Negative experience: Waste of time, went all the way there from Newcastle from work and he barely even looked in my mouth, I showed him a scan from the orthodontist for a filling and he said he wanted a letter telling him what to do… it cost me £27 and fuel and time off work to be told I need a letter for 3 minutes, absolute robbery! So now I’m paying 200 to have it done on private as I need it done to start Invisalign treatment.
Negative experience: Rude, always kept waiting and the 'dentists' aren't permitted to scale or check teeth. So, ' check up' is by sight alone.

Fantastic experience: I have to give 5 stars to Genix Dental Clinic Alnwick, I am currently visiting the area and started having a problem with a tooth over the weekend, I thought a crown had loosened, come Monday morning I started searching for a local dentist who could see me as an emergency I spoke to Lisa who was able to offer me an appointment for the following day.I was booked in with James, I am a very nervous dental patient, James and Becca the dental nurse were just wonderful,very reassuring and when I embarressed myself by starting to cry they were very empathic.During the process of the examination and treatment every step was explained and the cost given, unfortunately I lost the crown and underlying tooth. I highly recommend the practise and if I lived nearer and not a 3 hour drive away I would register at the practise. Again huge thanks to Lisa, James and Becca

Positive experience: Staff polite and helpful. The check up itself could have been clearer. I left unsure of whether the comments made were advisory or essential. I suddenly seemed to need much more treatment than I have needed for years, which is odd when my habits, diet etc. haven't changed. I also found it odd that a problem I do have was not mentioned. It doesn't give one much confidence.

Positive experience: It would definitely be better if you were told and kept updated when the dentist is running late for an appointment. Every time I have had an appointment I have been kept waiting for 30-45 minutes, but none of the receptionists inform you when you arrive. There is a lot of chatting amongst themselves but no interaction with the patients. The constant emails and text messages and phone calls to remind you of your appointment is not necessary, surely one call or message is all that is required. The dentist is professional, but it’s all about selling other products.

Negative experience: I arrived 6 minutes late for my appointment through no fault of my own and the receptionist said I couldn’t be seen as it would make the dentist over run so I had to make another appointment. I was offered one 2 hours later but was unable to take this up because of other commitments. Another appointment was arranged and I arrived promptly for this and was kept waiting for more than 15 minutes after my appointment time as the dentist was ‘over running’. Another patient arrived about 10 minutes late and was told to wait, not sent away as I had been. It’s a round trip of 20 miles. I also received an email saying as I had ‘failed to attend’ (I did attend but was slightly, unavoidably late) and stating that if I failed to attend again I could be removed from their NHS list. Had they seen me on my original appointment the dentist may have run 6 minutes late for a time but would clearly have made that time up by the later appointment they offered me. It is quite usual to wait 10 minutes or more after appointment times so I feel I was unfairly treated and had a wasted 20 mile round trip journey and time out of my day. I understand dentists are under a lot of pressure but feel I was unfairly treated. Once I got see the dentist it was fine

Positive experience: On the whole a good experience - easy to get to, good parking, lovely clean and tidy environment and nice, friendly staff. Only thing that drags my rating down a bit is having to pay up before I’ve see the dentist and being kept waiting for 20 mins for a 9am appt. I wouldn’t have thought they’d be running behind at that time of day. But overall, good experience if like all private dentists, an expensive one.

Fantastic experience: After years of neglect, I was eventually forced into making an appointment with a dentist due to severe toothache. I have always been very anxious and fearful about the dentist, maybe due to a bad experience as a child. I am also embarrassed about the state of my teeth, albeit the ones you can see are in good condition. The experience with Genix, and the particular Dentist assigned to me, has been nothing short of excellent. From the very first visit, I have been relaxed and happy about the whole process. The care and treatment, so far, has been superb and my anxiety and embarrassment has all but gone. There is somewhere to go yet, on my 'journey' but I am extremely satisfied with Genix so far. Thank you to everyone at the Alnwick practice - you have all been fantastic, and I wouldn't hesitate recommending you to others. Well done .... see you again soon !

Negative experience: I was initially told at reception that by booking to go private for a gum shield was cheaper than NHS. I was told NHS would be over £300 but private would be £199. So I booked an appointment for this to be done. Once at the appointment for my gum shield I was then told that Private was £300!!! As I was already at the appointment I had no choice but to go ahead. When I questioned the price I was told it went up in April. It would have been good customer service to let me know of the price change, plus there are no prices shown around the practice. Not happy with having to pay MUCH more than I was initially told. Once my gum shoe was fitted I was handed it in a small plastic bag......i would have expected a box at least for the money I paid. Disappointed with the whole process MONTH LATER Since using the gum shield I have developed sores/ulcers in my mouth. I rang and made an appointment to see the dentist and told them that I wanted a refund as I wasn't happy with the gum shield and I was in pain. The receptionist was extremely helpful and managed to get me an urgent appointment. Arrived at dentist and told the dentist my problem. She was very abrupt and had ZERO customer service. She said, you were told that you may gets sores, and i said i certainly was not. She told me I WOULD NOT be getting a refund and that I should put the shield in my mouth. I said I didn't want to as my mouth was so sore...her reply was how can I fix it if I don't see it in your mouth. Now I understand that, but it was her manner and tone of voice that really upset me. I put it in and she looked at it then told me to take it out and she the looked at my mouth and told her assistance to write down 2 traumatic ulcers on right side. Then she said do you want me to shave some off the shield....I said no I want some antibiotics to help my pain and a refund. She told me I would get antibiotics and I said the receptionist said I would and again, very abruptly, and obviously fed up of talking to me said "Well she is just a receptionist... I am the dentist. And you will not get a refund!" I said I want to speak to the manager and she then said you can see her and she will say no, and with that she was away raising her eyes to her assistant. She wrote me a prescription, didn't even look at me and said goodbye. I left very angry and upset about the way I was treated. I asked to speak to the manger and the receptionist told me, she wasn't in but she'd add me to her list of phone calls for Monday. I'm waiting! I will be asking for a refund and I am seriously considering CQC and the Dental Complaints Service.

Fantastic experience: Wow wow wow. From the second I went for a smile makeover consultation it felt like it was meant to be. Amazing prices, lovely state of the art dentist rooms, friendly and knowledgable staff and appointments when needed. Simona and her staff have made me feel so much more confident with my new composite veneers , starting with the teeth I had to what were at now 3/4 of the way through my journey I didn’t think was possible. They have access to an amazing lab that makes the veneers and they are just incredible! I have never been made to feel less because my teeth were awful, they’ve listened, discussed, given a treatment plan within my budget and just gone above and beyond.

Fantastic experience: I brought my two daughters, 6yo and 1yo for a checkup at Genix. My eldest was a little bit nervous about visiting a new dentist, but was put at ease straightaway by a lovely dentist who made her feel very comfortable and did a good examination. Negative experience: Very poor.. You turn up at the dentist and they ask you what you are having done. Bit of a joke really. Surely the dentist can spend 1 minute reading notes before the patient arrives. Makes the dentist look stupid when they don't even know what the patient is here for and you personally have to tell them what is to get done.

However, I recently had cause for concern regarding my treatment plan, but I have to say that my concerns were dealt with swiftly, professionally and without any hesitation. The manager and her whole team responded to my concerns quickly and to my total satisfaction. In support of this approach, I was seen by a different dentist and dental nurse in the practice (Shazia & Becky). They were both amazing, offering reassurance and a treatment plan that could not be questioned, doubted or faulted. Quite simply, Shazia is the best and most reassuring dentist I have ever seen and I speak from experience, given that I have just reached retirement age. Well done Genix and in particular, a huge thank you to Shazia and Becky for your excellent care.

Positive experience: We arrived for my 12 year old daughters appointment. She was very nervous. After 3 very brief questions of ...have you eating, did you brush your teeth and any allergy to needles the dentist started working. I had to asked them to know exactly what they where doing during the process as I can clearly see her getting really agitated and nervous. During the process, he lacked empathy, was judgmental in his demeanor and didn't show compaction throughout the procedure. After the procedure was completed, he told her you shouldn't be getting this done at your age maybe when you are 30years. I wasn't pleased with the way he addressed us which could have been delivered better. My daughter cried all through the drive home and I felt like a failure. You hardly know us or our background, please do better.

Positive experience: Organisation in terms of booking and communication from Genix is always very good. I find the dentists a bit hit and miss though in terms of what I like. They don't seem to be able to keep NHS dentists very long so it's basically someone new every time you go. I am very anxious about dentists so having somone new every time isn't great. Some have been really nice and reassuring others not so much. I am actually considering paying private to at least he able to choose who I see in the future. In summary, it's probably what you expect by being an NHS patient these days.
