He is also very cautious and won’t drill into a teeth unless he is sure it is needed. My family and I have been his patient for over the past 10 years and we have always been happy with the level of expertise and how we have been treated. The hygienist is also excellent, we have seen different hygienists over years and always been satisfied with the result, in particular Julie has been excellent.

Fantastic experience: Markham Associates (despite several name changes) is one of the longest established dental practices in Reading. I have been attending there ever since 1946 when I was just 3 years old and in all the years since I have no recollections of any truly painful or unpleasant experiences. I guess no-one enthuses about visiting their dentist. However, I always go along in the certain confidence that I will return home - not just with healthy teeth - but on visiting the hygienist (highly recommended), with much cleaner ones; and healthier gums as well. Dr Ali Kamran and his team are highly competent and I unreservedly recommend this practice without qualification. Call and book an appointment today!

Fantastic experience: Everyone is very warm and kind. What I like most of all is that they were very informative and transparent with me. They generally cared about my tooth health and gave me the tools and advice to keep my mouth healthy. I had an appointment today with their hygienist, Julie, who was charming and very thorough in the cleaning process, and very clearly showed me how to floss the proper way! She showed me each of the tools that I can use to get right under the gums and demonstrated their use to make sure I understood the process. So I'm very thankful for all of that. Negative experience: Pretty disappointing. First time as a patient and don't think I gained anything from the appointment. Granted my teeth are fine, but feel I paid for Dr. Kamran to regurgitate back to me concerns I already had, and there was very little explanation of how I then make these appointments and the costs...

Positive experience: I visited this practice around April 29, 2025, and had two very good appointments with Dr. Kamran, as well as a positive experience with the hygienist. Due to some unexpected and urgent circumstances, I ended up getting a filling at a 24/7 emergency dentist before Dr. Kamran was able to proceed with treatment. I understand this may have caused some confusion, but I was surprised to hear that Dr. Kamran no longer wished to see me for follow-up care and was advised to return to the other clinic—despite it being an emergency-only facility, not one I could return to for ongoing treatment. I did try to explain this to the reception staff, but they didn’t seem particularly receptive. That said, I genuinely appreciated the care I received during my earlier visits, especially from the hygienist, whom I would gladly see again for future cleanings. If my actions caused any misunderstanding, I sincerely apologize to Dr. Kamran.

They made me feel really at ease and clearly knew what they were doing—they’re obviously very experienced. The prices were really reasonable too, which was a nice surprise. I called to book an emergency appointment and was seen within 20 minutes. Overall, I’m really happy with how it all went. Great care, affordable prices, and such a quick response—I’ll definitely be going back.

Negative experience: I wouldn't recommend this service. I had been there for a simple filling. Got back with numbness in jaws that lasted for 24 hours. When I thought that was all, it turned out I was wrong. I am unable to use that side of my mouth at all. Clearly it's an amateur dental work because dental filling is a basic work which these people don't know how to do. I went to this service after seeing the review and cost and I regret this. Still afraid to go to any dental after this horrendous experience and living with pain for months.

Fantastic experience: I was visiting Reading many years ago, having lunch when my crown came loose. I walked into Markham's and was seen in about ten minutes. No charge as at that time UK was in EU and they were reimbursed by the Irish health service.

Negative experience: Never respond to email. I send an email to register and book an appointment. No reply after 2 weeks. So I call the practice, the lady said my line was breaking and asked me to email all my personal information to get registered. Then, no response after another 3 weeks. Had to find another dentist.

The last surgery I visited told me I needed a filling and were quite pushy about when I was going to book it, telling me it will get worse if it isn't treated. This dentist on the other hand told me that if I just look after my teeth, it will heal on its own. I didn't even know that was possible. I also asked about whitening, but was told I do not need it. I don't think I'll be going to any other dentist from now on. If you haven't been, I highly recommend going to this one, I'm quite a nervous patient and I didn't feel worried about anything. Both the hygienist and the dentist were very polite.

I visited him due to acute pain in my lower left first molar, which had previously been root canal treated by a different dental practice. Fantastic experience: Routine visit to see Sunita. She is so lovely and caring, and although I hate coming to the hygienist she makes you feel at ease. She is also the first hygienist to accept that I have a real gagging issue.

Negative experience: I had severe toothache and I got an emergency appointment by paying 80£ which is ok. But the dentist had no idea and he told me that you are having pain because of a residual infection from a tooth which was extracted 12 years ago. He recommended that I must get it checked from an Oral Surgeon for advice. Markham associates have poor customer service too. I called them to request a referral to some oral surgeon and told them i’m having severe toothache and they replied, contact back after a week or so. I sent them an email but they neither referred me to some private dental nor did they reply to my email. I got an appointment with an oral surgeon the next day who told that the previous dentist’s assessment is wrong and actually the wisdom tooth needed extraction. Its more than 10 days and I am pain free now. This is an honest review of my personal experience. I gave 1 star because I had no lesser option available . But the dentist was polite though so 1 star for his politeness.
