Positive experience: Great service and very friendly staff, from reception to the dentists, hygienists and nurses. A big downside is that the prices keeps going up for every visit and there’s no information whatsoever about this in advance. They charge you without informing you. A hygienist visit went from £75 in Jan 22 to £85 in March 24 to £90 in Jan 25 to £99 in May 25. A 16% increase from 24 to 25 and 32% increase in 3 years. The dental health assessment has increased by 13% from 24 to 25, now standing at £85 a visit. Personally I will reduce my number of visits going forward.

We completely understand your concern regarding price changes. To reassure you we always notify patients of upcoming fee adjustments in our practice newsletter and website with 3 to 6 months notice so that no changes come without prior communication..
In addition we’ve recently introduced our Health Mouth Review with our Dental therapists which combines the routine Dental health assessment and hygiene appointment at a lower cost. This has actually reduced the combined price of these two visits by £24 compared to 2024 prices .
We continually review our fees in order to maintain the high standard of treatment and patient care that both we and our patients expect . Rising clinical, regulatory and material costs do you mean that some increases are unavoidable but we always drive to keep our care both an excellent value.
We really appreciate your feedback and we hope this helps explain the background to our pricing and the options available to make your visits more cost-effective.

Fantastic experience: South Lane Dental best in the area. Incredible work from fillings to hygienist appointments, thorough and professional. The team are great people and their work is priced competitively. Wouldn’t go elsewhere!
Negative experience: I visited South Lane Dental on 8 July 2025 for an emergency appointment after part of my lower right molar broke off and was charged the following: • £150 emergency appointment (30 minutes): only the one affected tooth and gum area was examined. • £15 for a single X-ray of that tooth. • £60 for a temporary filling. Total paid: £225—just to look at one tooth and place a temporary filling. I was told I’d need a crown and that a detailed treatment plan would follow “shortly.” In fact, I didn’t receive that plan until 21 July, two weeks later leaving me worried and waiting to hear back. When I finally heard back I was quoted £1455 for a crown… I then sought a second opinion elsewhere. For only £75, another dentist examined all my teeth, took multiple X-rays, and confirmed that standard fillings (three in total) would suffice, no crown needed. Issues: • Unnecessarily expensive treatment plan. • Long delay in sending treatment details. • Inaccurate diagnosis upselling a crown when simple fillings were appropriate.

We understand how distressing dental emergencies can be and we aim to provide timely care and clear communication to all our patients. Emergency appointments are designed to quickly assess and stabilise urgent issues., which is why they focus on the specific area of concern.
The fees reflect the nature of non-registered emergency care,immediate diagnostics and the temporary treatment provided to alleviate further discomfort or risk.
That said we sincerely apologise for the delay in providing your treatment plan. We had informed all patients that there would be a delay in treatment plans being sent due to annual leave and under normal circumstances, this would have been delivered sooner and we regret the worry this may have caused.
Your feedback has highlighted an area where we need to improve our follow-up process and we are actively reviewing our internal communication procedures to ensure better timelines in the future .
As for the treatment recommendation, dental opinions can vary depending on the approach and diagnostic interpretation. Our clinicians aim to recommend options based on long-term outcomes and preventive care but we completely understand and respect your decision to seeka second opinion.

Up to date technology helped pinpoint a problem and it is being dealt with For years I was dreaded going to the dentist but I’m so comfortable that I’m in safe hands South Lane Dental that it’s a breeze!
Fantastic experience: The service and experience at South Lane is second to none. I no longer dread going to the dentist (although I do need to go a little too often currently - all self inflicted - nothing to do with their work!) Friendly, helpful, welcoming, professional, genuinely nice people and the treatment is always done with the least amount of discomfort possible, so much so I have been know to doze off in the chair once or twice - that’s how good they are!
Fantastic experience: A fantastic dental practice! The whole team are just fab. Sam and Vicky at reception are so welcoming and always ready to help with anything. The nursing team are incredibly knowledgeable, competent and really put patient care first. Victoria and Debi made my recent visits so much more comfortable and do I dare say, enjoyable! And the dentists and therapists are incredibly skilled and proficient in their work. I feel really safe in their hands. I must give a special mention to Tania, who is, and now always will be my dentist. Fantastic experience: Excellent! I’m not the greatest when visiting the dentist for treatment but I was put at ease from the off. I was allowed to take things at my pace and was told at every step what was happening, what I May feel, or hear and why. I would highly recommend visiting them, if like me, you see dental treatment daunting.
Positive experience: Staff were lovely but different equipment was broken both in my dentist appointment and hygienist appointment. They have also changed the system for follow up information with little explanation of how costs were broken down and what work each item was connected to. It is expensive compared with other practices but the staff are lovely.

Fantastic experience: Have only had my first appointment with South Lane dental but I was very impressed with the professionalism. Malcolm and his colleagues made me feel totally at ease. Everything was explained in detail and totally clear as to my options.I was welcomed at reception with a hot drink if I wished. Thank you for making what is normally a nerve wracking experience, very pleasant.
Positive experience: Went in to have a filling replaced that had fallen out. Was given a temporary filling (£130) and given a quote of £650 for a permanent fix. This feels outrageously expensive to fix a filling that they previously put in, I am not happy and will be looking for a new dentist.

Positive experience: I was very happy with the experience of my visit to South Lane Dental (apart from the price of course!). I was in severe pain following the administrations of a new hygienist at my NHS dentist and the dentist gave me antibiotics and took an X-ray. He was very thorough and kind.

Fantastic experience: I needed an emergency appointment...I was offered one within a couple of hours! The staff were really lovely and reassuring, thankyou Vicky, as was Malcolm the dentist. Dentists these days are expensive, which is a shame, as we all need one, but I can't fault the service and my experience! Five stars without hesitation.

Fantastic experience: Treatment was excellent at the dental surgery. All staff treated my parents with kindness and understanding. I had problems with the patient portal - I spend a long time filling in medical histories (several times) but I could not save them. I’m not sure if it was me or the system.

Our fee structure allows us to not only maintain, bur to continuously improve our standards of customer service and clinical care which our patients have come to expect. We take feedback seriously and I will be looking into why the appointment seems to have been on the lower side of the allocated time. Our hygienists, and in this instance Hygiene Therapist are all experienced and undertake clinical examinations and treatments within their scope, this often means that the same clinician will be seen for the annual oral health review. Fantastic experience: Visited Tanya at South Lane Dental practice yesterday with a loose filling. Fantastic experience: Having dental treatment, apart from two small fillings when a child, at the age of 63 can be quite daunting!
