Negative experience: I recently had an emergency appointment for a filling which was previously done. It was one of the front teeth. The dentist saw me and filled it without any cleaning, drying or light cure. I am disappointed by this quality of treatment. The filling barely lasted 9 days and I paid £75 for this. The dentist kept encouraging a £275 private filling instead. Normally for front teeth, you can get a quality composite restoration. I tried to call back and the dentist and reception said this is what NHS gets you. Really disappointed with the sincerity or commitment to patient care. I recommend if you go private to choose Smile clinic instead in romford - cheaper and quality with guarantee for 6 months Edit - My response to your response. Thank you for your response. You did accommodate me by providing an appointment initially which I am thank you for. However, as you said it is right to be transparent. I was given a private appt the next day instead of an NHS appt and hence I rejected due to the cost of the appt and treatment. To clarify, I am the one who called back after the filling went out and I was never abusive or offensive in my words or actions. The staff was argumentative and never apologised either - explaining that under NHS, you get a 2 mins appt/tx. Questioning your quality of treatment is not abuse. Disappointed and shocked.

Both Dr. Vara and Jamela are incredibly professional and kind, which really helped ease my usual anxiety about dental treatments. From the moment I walked in, they made me feel comfortable and well cared for. I truly can’t recommend this practice highly enough!

Negative experience: Just called the surgery to check on whether they take on new patients/ provide NHS services and I was told they don’t. Yet, the NHS website states they do? Quite misleading and not sure who is lying here but this should be looked into.

Fantastic experience: I've been coming here for years. The first place I came to after 10 years of dentist phobia. I explained my nerves and everyone was so kind about it. I told them to tell me everything about the procedures they want to do, and if they'll hurt. If they hurt me without me knowing it will be painful, then my legs might go flying impulsively and someone might get kicked. However, the only thing that caused a pinch of pain was the anaesthetic. The rest was numb. I had fillings, root canals, and a tooth removed from them whilst I was awake. I plan to stay with them forever. :)

Negative experience: Took a day off work for an appointment to replace a filling that had fallen out, but instead I received a general checkup. Was charged twice for the checkup and another for the filling which I had to come back for, due to new ‘policy’ This alleged 'policy' is nowhere to be seen on their website and nor was I told this on the day I made this appointment or even when I came in for the appt. In fact, they seem to have several unhappy customers as only this morning, they were on the phone to someone who seemed angry and was putting in a complaint, and had their door smashed in by an angry patient.

Fantastic experience: I recently had the pleasure of visiting vara dental and I am thoroughly impressed by the high standard of care and professionalism demonstrated throughout my experience. From the moment I arrived, the staff was welcoming, courteous, and attentive, ensuring a comfortable and seamless check-in process.

Negative experience: I booked a teeth cleaning at Vara Dental Clinic in East Ham on 21/09/23—paid a £50 deposit upfront with the understanding that the remaining 50% would be paid on the day of the appointment. I also completed all the required forms and fully intended to attend. Due to unavoidable circumstances, I missed the appointment and called shortly after to explain, take accountability, and see if there was a way to rebook or at least discuss the situation reasonably. Unfortunately, whoever handled the call seemed more focused on enforcing policy than having a professional conversation. I was talked over, condescended to, and told I had “wasted the dentist’s time”—despite having already paid for half the service with no work provided. I wasn’t given space to explain and felt stonewalled rather than heard. The tone felt dismissive and almost scripted, as if the goal was to shut down the conversation rather than resolve it. I completely understand that clinics have schedules to manage and staff time is valuable. I respect that. But as a paying customer who followed all the booking protocols in good faith, the treatment I received felt unnecessarily harsh and devoid of basic empathy. This was a routine cleaning, not a complex procedure. From what I understand, their setup and sanitisation process is standard and not particularly time- or cost-intensive. Labeling my missed appointment a “waste of time” while keeping my deposit felt excessive—especially when I was trying to make things right. To make it worse, I was offered a rebooking—immediately after being reprimanded. That contradiction made it clear the offer was more about formality than actual care or service recovery. It didn’t feel like I was being helped. It felt like I was being handled. I had chosen this clinic in good faith, paid upfront, and attempted to communicate responsibly. I expected a higher level of professionalism and fairness, even in the event of a missed appointment.
