Abington Dental Practice

Negative experience: I had a front filling done in August, and it completely fell out after just three months—while I was on holiday. This is absolutely unacceptable and raises serious doubts about the quality and durability of the work carried out. To make matters worse, my gums were cut during the procedure, leaving me in significant pain for two weeks. I cannot understand why my gums needed to be cut for a routine filling, and no proper explanation was given. Overall, this was an extremely poor and shocking experience from start to finish. Based on what I went through, I have completely lost confidence in the standard of care provided.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been visiting Abington Dental Surgery since I moved to Northampton 15 years ago. I’ve always been looked after so well and thought it was about time I wrote a review. Have just had my six monthly check up followed by a lovely quick chat with Dr Ayesha Ejaz. No one looks forward to a visit to the dentist ( I don’t think) but I do like seeing the lovely friendly team .

Negative experience: I visited your clinic because I was in severe pain and my own dentist could only see me in 3–4 weeks, which was not an option. I came to you privately, paid for treatment, and was told the issue had been addressed. However, I left in just as much pain as before, and when I contacted you again to explain this, I was told to “go back to my dentist.” I find this response unacceptable. I came to your clinic and paid privately precisely because I could not wait weeks in pain. To be told that I should simply return to my dentist ,after you had already taken payment , is dismissive, unhelpful, and highly unprofessional. Patients do not pay private fees to be sent away without their problem being resolved. Later , finally, I was told to come in to get antibiotics for £25. I specifically asked if the dentist would see me, do an X-ray, or check if there was an infection, and I was told no , I would only be given the antibiotics, nothing else. However, when I returned the next day, I was suddenly told that I could not receive antibiotics without an X-ray first.. and see if need more work on the thoot or , as last option, just give me the antibiotics . This was the exact opposite of what I had been told the previous day. Such inconsistency is not acceptable, especially when patients are already in pain. Additionally, the way I was spoken to by a member of staff was extremely unprofessional. Despite clearly seeing that I had three children with me, I was told in a rude and dismissive ton , When I asked “ how long it would take to have an X-ray done” .. ‘I don’t know, just wait, we have other patients as well”.. without any clear information, as if I could sit indefinitely with my children. This attitude added unnecessary stress to an already painful and difficult situation. I expected clear communication, consistency, and a professional solution to my problem. Instead, I left feeling dismissed and poorly treated, with my pain unresolved despite paying privately. I strongly believe that patients deserve better care, proper diagnosis from the start (such as an X-ray), and above all, respect. I believe the main problem was with the older blonde receptionist, who had a very unprofessional attitude and, in my opinion, showed a bit of racism in her behavior. . Since she works with the public, she should leave aside any personal frustrations and behave in a polite, professional, and respectful manner. Being rude, overly sharp, or discriminatory towards people of different backgrounds is completely unacceptable. If she cannot treat all patients fairly, she should consider whether this job is suitable for her.

Fantastic experience: Abington Dental’s care and professionalism are truly top tier. After some difficult past experiences, I was very nervous going in for my tooth extraction. But the whole process was completely painless, and both the dentist and nurse were so reassuring that I felt calm and well looked after throughout.

Fantastic experience: I had not been to a Dentist for years. I got a Consultation for the next day. Two painful teeth were extracted ‘there and then’. The procedure was entirely painless. I just could not get over how unbelievably helpful everybody was. Fear the Dentist? Not here!. Ad multos annos.

Fantastic experience: I went to see my regular dentist and her dental assistant today. I received exemplary care and attention. Every aspect of the procedure was carefully explained to me and the whole treatment was of the highest standard. I left smiling! I returned to have some follow up treatment today and received the exemplary care that I always experience. To summarise, textbook treatment again!

Negative experience: IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR A DENTAL PRACTICE AVOID ABINGTON DENTAL PRACTICE. THE 4 STAR RATING YOU SEE IS MOST LIKELY FAKE! THEY WILL SCAM YOU OF YOUR MONEY. THEY ARE EXTREMELY UNPROFESSIONAL! YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED! If I could give 0 stars I would. Took a deposit of £45 off me. Was told I’d receive a text for confirmation of date and time for appointment which I never received. Missed my appointment and was told I’d have to pay another deposit as I was charged for not showing up. Nothing was said about being charged for a not showing up. Abington dental practice are a scam. Avoid at all cost! Update: Obviously your practice is very unprofessional. Look at the way you have responded to me. I have had the same number for over 10 years so I think I’d know my number off heart by now. Your receptionists should have called out the number again to confirm if it’s correct. I provided you with my email address which you could have contacted me via. Again nothing was said about being charged if you miss an appointment. I guess that’s how you make your money by scamming individuals. You are choosing not to take accountability for your mistakes and for that shame on you! Major red flags. AVOID AT ALL COST!!! Feb 2025: I have a personal vendetta against this dental practice so make it a personal responsibly of mine to come back here often and warn people against these scammers. If you can avoid them please do. If you chose to go against this advice just have a read of some of the other negative comments they’ve received and their response and ask yourself if you really want to put your dental care in their hands. Fantastic experience: I can't recommend Abington Dental enough! From the moment you walk in, the staff is welcoming and puts you at ease. The dentist I saw explained everything clearly throughout my appointment, making sure I understood all my options. The procedures were done with great care and minimal discomfort, and I truly appreciate their commitment to my overall dental health. I am a qualified dental nurse, I have worked at and been to many dentists over the years but this was the best dental experience I've ever had!

Negative experience: One of the worst experiences I've had. Dr. Hiden Patel was patronising, rude and just not a very nice person. I had a very bad experience with a dentist when I was a child, so I ask to be treated like a 5 year old, it's that bad. For the x-ray the plastic thing was cutting up my mouth, to which I was told to stop acting like a child, all mouths are the same with the same amount of teeth. The nurse (Ozana) just stood there looking up and didn't say a single word. I was in tears and felt very vulnerable. I will never attend this surgery again and if you have any fear of dentist please don't go here and please don't take your children here. With people like this ego plays a big part Have added my receipt to show I did attend an appointment here, before they say they don’t have a record of me.

Negative experience: The most unprofessional communication and dental care I have ever received. The owner who is the lead dentist didn't check up my teeth and put me temporary feeling as he marked that he couldn't make the permenent feeling himself. Without any advise or follow up, he said nothing but the price I needed to pay. Avoid for your sanity! I am a real Abington Dental Surgery patient with a bank payment for their "service".

Negative experience: I am not one bit surprised by the negative reviews about this practice. I am also not one bit surprised by their arrogant replies to their reviews. Medical professionals should welcome feedback to enhance their practice and learn from them to improve patient care. I spent a lot of money for work at this practice and have ended up with lost fillings within two years. I’ve also recently had a tooth removed (by a different, much better practice) as a filling was pressing on a nerve. I agree with the comments about staff at reception also. My experience was they only cared about money and not about the patient. EDIT- your stock answer is just contempt. You do indeed have me on your records as I have recently requested them to seek further advice. You are horrible with your responses to reviews unless it’s to your benefit. Do better and act within NICE guidelines.

Fantastic experience: I'm currently in the process of having extensive treatment works, and I can see a huge improvement in my teeth already. The reception are friendly and do their best to accommodate appointments and payments. The dentist and support team are very informative and as gentle as can be, every step of the way. The quality of their work is exemplary. After previously having work done through the NHS at another dentist and then going private, I'm never going back... You only get one set of natural adult teeth, so it's a no brainer to get the best care that you can. You get what you pay for! Thank you so much for looking after me so far and I can't wait to return for my next appointment. I can't wait to see the end result, it really does give me reason to smile a lot more already!

Fantastic experience: Outstanding. I did not understand why going private is better, but it is, or at least this dentistry is superb. People are shocked at work when asked did my root canal hurt, and I reply I nearly feel asleep to the calm music whilst in chair. This is from a man who had a phobia of the dentist and avoided for many years. Thank you for the confidence you have put in me with dentists. It's more expensive than NHS, but I will have to work harder, save, or pay in instalments. Brilliant, absolutely brilliant.

Negative experience: Felt judged for being an NHS patient, the dentist had really bad bedside manner even though I said I was a nervous patient and the receptionists weren't very nice either. I've ended up managing to go private but no chance would I pay to go back here. They didn't even ask why I wanted to be taken off as a patient when I called up, no real care or interest at all. Other members of my family have had similar experiences here as NHS patients and are also looking to leave.

Negative experience: The website said the practice was open so I kept trying to get through . Gave up and drove to the practice to try to get an appointment . On the door was a sign saying closed for Bank Holiday. Surely it would be reasonable to note this on the website and a simple message on the phone . Seems to me you aren't concerned about patients. Fantastic experience: Dentist Avinash Patel has provided wonderful, ongoing treatment to my 5 year old daughter who injured her tooth after having a fall. He is calm, patient and reassuring in his manner and she is never afraid to visit the dentist. Thank you.

Negative experience: I booked a routine check up, and paid a £45 deposit, which was fine. While at the check up, the dentist did an x-ray and a scale and polish, both of which, I wasn't asked if I wanted, and the price wasn't discussed. I was charged £30 for the x-ray, and £70 for the scale and polish. The scale and polish took about 2-3 minutes. I know there's equipment and expertise involved, but that's very expensive. I have no problem with the work, but as mentioned in other reviews, they're really trying to charge people for everything they can. Not discussing costs and just doing work without consent, so that they can charge more, is disgusting behaviour. Edit: their response only furthers my point. How could I have declined when I wasn't asked if I wanted the treatment or consulted on price in the first place? The sarcastic comment insinuating I'm poor really shows the horrible attitude they have.

Negative experience: The practice has changed a lot. The receptionist has a disgusting attitude, short on words and doesn't know what customer service is. Not a single smile, borderline rude responses, as if she is doing a massive favour. I have never experienced sth like this being a private paying client anywhere else. The dentists also changed after the refurbishment and reopening, they barely talk, unless you probe with questions,little comfort and reassurance given. It's like you come for processing... I simply don't understand how people,who make so much money and rely on privately paying clients to survive, have such poor attitude. Still to see if the work done holds, been about 1 year since fillings done (I don't know if they have new reception staff now, the comment above is about a lady with dark hair in her 40s)

Negative experience: I've been with this dental practice for many years, along with my adult son, who has additional needs. Over 6 months ago I would have given them 5 stars but it seems that the practice has now removed itself from the NHS contract and now not allowing their long term existing NHS patients (who have been with them for years) to book any further appointments until they agree to sign up to a private payment plan - essentially forcing them to sign up, pay into the plan, "pay as you go" as a private patient or leave. My son doesn't pay for his NHS dental treatment due to his disabilities. I have called many times requesting an appointment and explaining that he is an existing NHS patient (his regular check-up is due next month). I have also asked if they are removing their NHS patients from the practice only to be told my 'options' will be sent out to me by post until then they can't give me any further details. I received these "options" today. So did my son, who had no way of reading or understanding the information sent to him. These "options" are details of payment plans with direct debit instruction and a QR code to set up payments. No mention or transparency on what they are planning for their current NHS patients...(which is nothing, apart from not being able to make any further appointments). It's such a shame that the ethos of this practice has changed so dramatically. My son was comfortable, happy and willing to attend. The female receptionist was lovely and the dentist we regularly saw really kind. Not so much now as I can't even get a straight answer about if we can return as NHS patients or get an appointment to see the dentist. I will ask again now that I have received the options to see if I can get clarity. Maybe their key priority isn't really about "creating beautiful smiles for life"..at least not for everyone.

Negative experience: I advise you to avoid this place. price list on the website for composite cost £85. however, the dentist says that £185 is a small difference, right? If you like to overspend, this place will be perfect.

Fantastic experience: I had a serious dental emergency right after x-mas. I was able to get same-day appointment just for £45, The doctor fixed my teeth with a bridge, advised me and provided me with a dental plan to consider in the future Very Professional, Excellent customer service and patient treatment !! Negative experience: The responses to any criticism on these reviews is met with negative, dismissive and sometimes aggressive responses which is all you need to know about this practice. It's perhaps a joint miss communication (to be fair and balanced) but after my visit today, and after 15 years as an NHS patient, that I was given a large private fees invoice *after / not quoted before* treatment with no mention of this before treatment or any confirmation on arrival. I paid before I queried the balance for context. My only question thereafter was "so how do I re-register as an NHS patient?" since they were recommending I take up a quotation of over £300 in private fees, to which I never did get the answer. A warning to all that reasonable discussions are met with confrontation and you will not get your answers - my experience was very disrespectful and I wont be returning unless I get an apology. Huge thanks to the dentist who was very helpful and professional and to the other receptionist who was calmly trying to explain things whilst her colleague let himself and the team down immensely by forcing himself into the conversation in which we were navigating just fine and calmly without his aggression and attitude.

Fantastic experience: Im not a patient at this surgery but Rang and got an emergency appointment the same day, the reception staff were very polite and helpful ,on arrival I was made to feel welcome and filled in the relevant paperwork the dentist fully examined the problem tooth and very clearly explained what options I had which I chose to have it removed this was 100% painless this is the best dentist I've been to will definitely return and would recommend to anyone who is looking for a surgery in the area A1 treatment start to finish

Negative experience: I was in a lot of pain I rang up and spoke to a lovely receptionist who asked me to phone first thing in the morning to book an appointment in. When I phoned yesterday morning unfortunately there was a different lady on reception who was extremely rude. It just seemed like she didn’t want to be on the phone. She kept talking over me whenever I tried asking something. I was still in pain and am a very nervous person when it comes to the dentist anyway. She seemed so irritable I just decided to end the call. As it wasn’t how I wanted to be spoken to. Such a shame I had full confidence in coming in after speaking with the first staff member. But I would not feel comfortable to come into you’re practise with someone like that there to greet me.
