First established as a neighbourhood dental surgery in the early 1970s, Hornsey Dental Centre remains one of the most popular and oldest serving practices in the area. Positive experience: Dr Khamis was a dream come true! I could immediately trust him with my dirty secrets leading to my revolting set of teeth - and he gave me the good news I'd come to believe impossible: that my teeth could be saved and made presentable again.. I was over the moon! Dr Khamis has a light touch and easy manner, yet clear authority and expertise in his field. He came highly recommended via my dentist cousin's connections - and she marvelled at his work once done, and couldn't figure out how on earth he'd enacted such a magical transformation of my dreadfully stained, long neglected teeth! Hornsey Dental Centre is welcoming and helpful from start to finish, whatever my queries or trouble. And it would be no exaggeration to say that Dr Khamis has given me my life back: not just the freedom to smile without covering my mouth or avoiding photos, but I've now returned to my beloved profession of teaching and am thrilled to bits. Fantastic experience: I had an appointment with both the hygienist and the dentist at Hornsey Dental Centre, and I also interacted with the receptionists. Everyone was professional, kind, and truly committed to doing their job well. The clinic is clean, organized, and welcoming, which made my visit very comfortable. While waiting, I noticed that some people were being extremely rude to the staff, and it was disheartening to see. No one deserves to be treated that way. The team works hard, and dealing with rude customers can be overwhelming and can even lead to mistakes — they’re human too. Kindness goes a long way, and when you treat people with respect, you receive the same in return. Despite the challenges they faced that day, the staff were incredibly helpful and patient with me. I appreciate how well they handled everything and how pleasant they made my experience. It’s a reminder that being on your best behaviour makes a big difference — no one else is responsible for your bad day. Overall, I highly recommend Dentis Clinic for their professionalism, kindness, and excellent care.

Negative experience: This is the worst dentist. My sister went to see the hygienist After seeing the hygienist her gum starting swelling. She called the surgery to see the dentist so she can get antibiotics. The receptionist told her there is no appointments for the following week bearing in mind my face is now swollen too and cannot open my eye. I went to the dentist on Friday morning with a swollen face only to be told by the receptionist i cannot be seen to appointments until Tuesday. I had no choice but to go to another dentist who prescribed me antibiotics and they drained the puss from my mouth as it would have turned sepsis If i could would give it no stars. The receptionist is very rude and unkind snd unhelpful.

Negative experience: To summarise my repeated issues please read below: Initially informed I needed a root canal in December 2024 Treatment began on 16 January 2025- medicine, cleaning and temporary filling. Next available appointment was then 11 February 2025. I would like to note it’s advised by the NHS you get the root canal done within 1-2 weeks of initial appointment due to over subscription and poor management of follow up appointments for treatment this meant that it was normally a month before I had this second appointment on 11 Feb. Had the the appointment and informed that the root canal could not be completed and I would need to be referred to a hospital. Hospital wrote back to say they wouldn’t do it was referred somewhere else. I believe I was waiting for 2 months to receive a referral letter or a phone call. The letter said I would be contacted, I had the details of the referred practice but there was no indication I needed to call them and make an appointment myself. Called Hornsey Dental Centre practice again and it was only after a follow up appointment with them they said they could provide the number of the referred practice and I can make an appointment myself. If this was the case from the beginning why was I not informed so this treatment could be completed sooner? What makes it worse is that the number the dentist called first and then provided had an automated message to say this number is not in use and to call a different number. Now I don’t mind calling the other number to then book an appointment which I did, but they said they couldn’t get through. I got through straight away after calling the other number and they had said there was no wait times and didn’t understand why Hornsey Dental hadn’t followed up properly for availability or informed me sooner to call… Root canal was not completed until July, 7 months after initial appointment by the referred practice. This could have been completed sooner as confirmed by the referred practice if there had not been admin errors made by Hornsey Dental Centre. Had to seek emergency dental treatment in Buxton, Derbyshire mid-October. I need root canal treatment. Dentist practice in Buxton wanted to know why Hornsey Dental practice had not acted on treating tooth (right bottom molar) if I had only seen them in August 2025. Dental practice in Buxton cleaned the tooth, treated it with medicine and provided temporary filling advised I have root canal within 2 weeks. UPDATE: Attended appointment at Hornsey Dental Centre on 6 November 2025 and they were not able to provide a time frame on root canal or the other option for extraction. Performed an x-ray and confirmed there is still an infection but did not provide a treatment plan. Am I supposed to wait for it to go to absess and then sepsis before I am provided with treatment and care? Went to ask for the formal complaint procedure. According to the attached document the practice should provide this. I was informed that I couldn’t have a copy. There was no means to print or photocopy the procedure but the admin could read it to me. Was given a piece of paper to write down my details and informed the practice manager would contact me either same day or the following day. The practice closes at 3pm today and I have yet to hear anything… I think it’s horrendous that the admin tried to take notes on a scrap piece of paper. You can’t minute take by hand. Luckily I had summarised on the paper she provided so we didn’t have to sit through the pain of her not having the proper abilities to take notes of the complaint. Not having a go about the admin but why is your computer not set up to take minutes? Why is there not a private meeting room to handle complaints? Why is there not copies of the complaint procedure readily available to hand out? I honestly think the level of negligence here means there is grounds for formal complaint to Local Healh watch, the dental complaints service, the general dental council and the care quality commission because I see multiple complaints in reviews about care

General Information:
On occasion, patients can be referred elsewhere for assessment and treatment as appropriate. These facilities manage their own bookings and processes, of which we have no control. We appreciate and share in the frustration with waiting for such appointments. At our practice we work to provide appointments promptly as possible.
Negative experience: I’ve been with this practice for years and have not had any major issues beyond the a fair few rescheduled appointments, but this experience was disappointing. I was four minutes late to my check-up due to an unforeseen circumstance. I called ahead to let them know, and the receptionist said she’d inform the dentist (Hiba Asrar, though she doesn’t appear on the website). When I arrived, the receptionist went to check and came back saying the dentist had already left - four minutes after my appointment was due to start. I genuinely thought it was a joke. I understand practices have policies about lateness, but four minutes, after calling ahead, for a five-minute check-up? Most practices quote a 10-15 minute threshold (depending on treatment, of course). A little grace would have gone a long way. After years of going to this practice, it’s disheartening to see such rigid and inconsiderate treatment.

Negative experience: I have never written a negative review before, but my experience with this dental practice has been extremely disappointing. The main problem is not with the dentists themselves, but with the reception staff. They are unprofessional, rude, and dishonest. I had appointments booked for my four children, and I called in advance to cancel them. The receptionist confirmed the cancellation on the phone, but she did not record it in the system. Later, they marked us as “did not attend.” When I called to explain and rebook, they refused to give me another appointment, saying I had missed appointments which is completely untrue. I explained clearly that I had cancelled, and even the manager did not handle the issue properly. Unfortunately, the same thing happened again later. They made appointments for me without my confirmation while I was in hospital for two months. When I tried to explain that I had been seriously ill and didn’t make or confirm any appointments, they still said I had “missed” them. This is absolutely unacceptable. To make things even worse, there is no proper way to contact the manager or make a complaint. There is no email, no direct phone number, and they refuse to let you speak to anyone in charge. If you ask to speak to the manager, they simply say, “No, just do whatever you want.” This is completely irresponsible and unprofessional. I have now moved my four children to another dentist, and I regret ever registering with this practice. The system there is awful, and the reception staff are not honest or professional. This is the worst experience I have ever had with a dentist in the UK. I would never recommend this practice to anyone.

Information about Late cancelation of and Failure to attend appointments:
Cancellation of appointments with less than 48 working hours’ notice OR Not attending an appointment means that appointment has been wasted and cannot be provided to another patient or their family. In a time when we all are aware of limited resources this means that others miss out on dental care.
Our reception team do provide one opportunity to reschedule, however if a late cancelation or non-attendance reoccurs our reception team are left with the unenviable task of letting patients know we are not able to provide further appointments.
All patients are welcome to move/reschedule their appointments as long as you speak to our reception team by telephone more than 48 working hours before the appointment. This enables us to provide these appointments to other patients and their families.
Fantastic experience: Excellent Service from Neeta at reception! Neeta is always so polite, friendly, and incredibly helpful. She makes every visit a pleasant experience and takes great care to make sure you feel comfortable and well looked after. Truly the best person to be served by — professional, kind. Negative experience: Me and my partner paid £75 each for a clean and £30 for a check up. Honestly I was really shocked that after a clean (that was extremely fast) I was given and empty cup and told I can rinse my mouth in the toilet next door. I’ve never come across this before.My partner asked for his Xray to be emailed to him which we’d just paid to have.. as we may do a filling while abroad and he was told it had to be hand written to manager. He hand wrote and signed and was then told the manager is on holiday and no one else can send it. Wasn’t given an email. Receptionist was really quick to take next payment for the next clean though which I’m now having doubts about as I feel it was all quite rushed and annoyed we’re still having to call and chase for an Xray we paid for.

Negative experience: I had an appointment was recommended to see the hygienist to clean up my teeth. Was also told it would take 30/45 minutes but it took the lady about 15-17minutes and got charged £75. honestly if I brushed my teeth for 15 minutes I would have gotten a better result. I do not recommend this dentist to anyone even if you’re a nhs patient.

Negative experience: Possibly the most un professional management I have ever come across. The receptionist over charged me by £30 today and said she couldn’t refund me because their systems didn’t allow them to. When i insisted she call her manager, he wouldn’t speak to me and told her to say I would get a cheque delivered. At no point did anyone register this overcharge in a book or in writing. And then to be told I’d ‘probably get my cheque in a few weeks’ was the final straw. This practise don’t appear to have any processes in place and a total lack of customer care. Shame as the hygienist did a good job for me !

Our receptionists make every effort to ensure correct billing and work hard to help the many patients they deal with every day.
On the very rare occasion where we have made an error, we admit to it and rest assured any overpayment would be returned. Please note to ensure payment security this cannot be done on the spot by reception staff. A management process that runs periodically would do so by post.

Negative experience: I signed up for their private dental care and they never explained to me, although I was asking questions before signing up, that the professional hygiene IS NOT INCLUDED in the plan!!!! Apparently the dentist who will do the check ups every 6 months will also do the hygiene!!!!!! With my other place where I was signed with CROFT DENTAL in Camberley, for the private subscription per month I was getting every six months a check up from a dentist and a hygiene done by professional hygienist, and I didn’t have to pay any extra money!!! If Hornsey Dental centre explained me all this before signing up for their private care, I would never sign up for it!!! Ever! I am sure in London there are other dental centers who provide exactly the service like Croft Dental in Camberley!!!!

General Information:
Private dental plans differ between dental practices, as we all have different patients with different requirements. Please note the costs and benefits of these monthly membership plans vary too, with charges that are far higher than ours, especially when hygienist treatments are to be included. In our case, we find our patients want the cost/ benefits that we currently offer. We do review this regularly.
Negative experience: Had previous good experiences with this dentist, but have been told that I can’t make an appointment for my 4 year old for two years due to me having to reschedule 2 appointments after a missed appointment 8 months prior.. The first reschedule due to flu and this time for chicken pox. Both were called in 48 hours in advance. Disgusted the dental service are willing to neglect my child’s teeth due to her not being able to attend due to having a contagious but common childhood illness.

Multiple LATE CANCELLATION ( less that 48 working day hours’ notice) or FAILURE TO ATTEND appointments results in appointment time being wasted that could have been offered to other deserving patients who are waiting to be seen. Due to limited funding and high demand ( which are not in our control) we are left with the unenviable task of having to let patients know we are unable to provide further appointments after they have late cancelled or not attended appointments multiple times. We can only request and hope for your understanding
Negative experience: Probably the worst experience I’ve ever had with a dental practice. Been waiting since January! for a filling. Had an appointment booked for this month, however I decided to call up and see if there was a cancellation, and could fit me in… to my surprise they said they had an available appointment the next day. Well, they called that morning to cancel, because the dentist had called in sick. So, they had to reschedule my appointment for April ! Never in my life have I ever waited so long to be seen by a dentist. Poor patient management… and all because I’m an nhs patient who receives maternity exemption. If I was paying I’m sure I would have already been seen. And they can try and justify and make all the excuses in the world. But my husband who pays for his treatment was since before me, and he didn’t even have an emergency. I will seek help at a private clinic now.

General Information:
We try our very best to see all our patients promptly. We understand the frustration with not being able to have prompt NHS treatment. Unfortunately funding is not unlimited ( not in our control) and demand is high.
If you are offered an earlier appointment due to cancellation by another patient, please be aware your original appointment has to be removed so as to provide that time to someone else.
On a rare occasion your dentist/ hygienist may not be well enough to work. In those circumstances we have little choice but to reschedule your appointment to the earliest availability, which can be a longer wait that any of us would have hoped. Negative experience: I am doing a band 12 or 3 costing approximately £320.00,I paid £26.00 for the first check up,then on The second visit i paid another £30.00 an did a impression for a new denture.they told me that I have to pay at least half of the £320.00,i went to pay £110.00 with the previous payments which would have made it half the £320. but the dentist was on holiday, the reception said they would call to collect the payment but never did.on my next appointment I went to pay the £120.00 and told the dentist that I have a broken upper tooth which was hurting a little, she looked at the tooth and said thats it for now,doing nothing about the tooth just wanting me to pay without doing anything about the tooth so I said I am not paying anything else unless my tooth was looked at, she refused to so I requested a refund and their telling me the refund should come through in 4 weeks,I think this dentist is just about money and not good customer service. also this practice covers the little sink to spit in(unhygienic)so I gave a 1 out of 10 for everything...

Fantastic experience: Hello I came to Hornsey Dentist Centre to get some work done on my teeth. I had 2 chipped front teeth and had to get some fillings done and boy was I pleased. I hate going to the dentist but not thie one. The dentist who done the work was Rema Patal and boy is she good first thing to say I am always complaining about pain but not with Mrs Patel . When she was doing my tea did not feel any pain at All and she I looked at my teeth it was like I had nothing wrong with them. As with many dental practices we provide both NHS and Private Dental Care. Our dentists discuss treatments with you and appointments are arranged once you have approved the chosen treatment and charges if applicable. This also gives you the opportunity to think about the treatment before you attend the treatment appointment and should you need further explanation/ clarification, you are welcome to contact reception. If reception can solve your query they would do so, if a discussion with your dentist is required, then reception would come back to you having spoken with your dentist for you.
Negative experience: Why is that receptionist constantly putting me on Hold when I am simply asking a question.Or trying to change a date... It doesn't make any sense to put a person on hold during a conversation. I recorded being put on hold for the 3rd time calling .I was on hold for fifteen minutes that is unacceptable. Negative experience: I have been a patient for over 14 yrs at this practice and always had excellent experience and service from the Dentist there, especially, Dr Soni, who relocated to Newcastle and then Dr Krishna Patel who left recently unfortunately. The last time I had an emergency, I asked for Dr Krishna who telephoned me and fitted me in same day and did an excellent job, a real caring Dentist. On Monday 2/12/24 I had a filling crack leaving me in a lot of pain, I telephoned and ask to speak to the replacement Dentist, also called Dr Patel. By lunchtime I had heard nothing from Dr Patel so went to the surgery. I sat in the waiting room whilst the receptionist relayed my situation to Dr Patel who was in her surgery. She sent a message back with the receptionist, who was extremely apologetic, but told me Dr Patel told me to make an appointment in 10days time !! She did no even come out to talk to me herself. Totally unprofessional, uncaring person. A dental surgery is as good as its dentist. After 14 yrs I have registered with a new dentist with excellent reviews. I wonder just how long Dr Patel will exist at what was an excellent practice. What is the view of the National Board of Dentistry to ignore a patient in pain. Disgusting.

Due to the high demand for dental care, it is not always possible to provide treatment immediately, although we work hard to accommodate everyone’s needs. We advise patients to telephone call the practice and you will be provided the appropriate support and information on when would be the earliest we can fully assess and provide dental care/treatment. This is the very same information we will provide if you come to the practice in person. As you will appreciate dentists may not be able to stop treatment of others to come out to speak to you personally.
Negative experience: Absolute criminals who run this shoddy practice. Firstly they have me a prescription without signature nor stamp on Saturday afternoon, chemist wouldn’t give me my antibiotics so was left in pain Saturday night & all day Sunday, they then made me wait until Monday afternoon before they could be bothered to do their job correctly. Secondly I had an appointment but due to unfortunate event I injured my back & was taken to A&E by ambulance and was told I had sciatica & was stuck in bed for 2 weeks, so I missed 2 appointments which I cancelled prior to the day of appointments now they refuse to book treat me and have stole my money which they make u pay in advance to any appointment. I shall be taking this further as like I did they are criminals

Negative experience: Worst Experience ever. Had tooth taken out and given no antibiotics. Face was swollen and had to call my doctor for antibiotics because I couldn't get seen by the clinic. Went elsewhere and was told shards of tooth was left behind. Another instance, I had work done on the same tooth multiple times and the filling keeps falling out. Always seems to be a botched job. I got work done at a private dentist and came back to them to tell me they are no longer willing to have me in their care. Now I am stuck trying to find a new Dentist. Always overcharging and have the worst service ever!

Negative experience: Horrible service!!! Not happy at all! Not recommending! Was late for 12 min, they took £30 deposit, not refunded 10 min for all appointments is ok for late time, 12 min is not ! I Was asking many times and explain why I was late, 2 min!!! And asking if possible can they refund, they not accepting and was rude on the phone. I was try to reschedule appointment, they told me I have to pay again £30 deposit … They take extra money £75 for measurement, which is another clinic didn’t take, it’s included to appointment. Was missing money in this clinic! £105 ( for maternity leave lady is expensive…) I was asking for my x-ray and measurements, they told me I have to bring a letter or send by post for all my results( clinic does have any emails) Still waiting for all my results send but email. I hope is will be not 6 months time to wait. P.S. Toilets very dirty in the clinic…. Continue my feedback…. I contacted the dental clinic, they said there was no manager in the clinic, I left my details and waited a whole week for a call back from the manager. A week passed I was called back again and ask again for a manager ( bacause he would like discuss, why I am not happy with a service( previous feedback) then he called back after a couple of hours, he offered me to come to their clinic again, and he does not return the deposit, which I refused to come to Hornsey dental clinic because I found a much better clinic in city. Hornsey dental clinic I am not recommend, it is terrible service at all!!!

Negative experience: I've been attending this dentist surgery my whole life. Unfortunately I don't really understand what the dentist can actually do here. I was told I'd need a Root Canal in one tooth. The quoted me £800 1 tooth (which is outrageous) because they didn't have a surgeon who specialised in root canals. I then called up not long ago to just ask for the tooth to be removed. I was then told this tooth needed a specialist to get an extraction. I don't know for this Dentist Surgery anymore everything seems to be passed on to other Dentist Surgery or a special needs to come in and do it privately.

I called the reception to let them know I was going to be 5mins late to my appointment due to traffic and if it’ll be ok, which they stated was fine. I turned up exactly 5 mins after my appointment time, no later, and was refused treatment and was told I can no longer make further appointments. The receptionist was so dismissive, I wouldn’t recommend this practice!

Negative experience: Awful experience and really terrible customer service. Part A: I had a white filling from them in 2019 (private expensive dentistry). It fell after only three years and they ll take no responsibility at all but they are happy if I do that all over again and they d charge me full price again. They obviously did a bad dentistry job and they are oblivious to taking responsibility. Go at your risk. Part B: After I received the reply to this review here below and a few invitation letters I went back and I was given a series of x-rays at a cost but still no results after a month... It only got worse.

Negative experience: I am not satisfied with customer satisfaction. Hornsey Dental centre are only things about money, if you are late 5min they will charge to you the price. Which is unfair to customers, and I have been registered in their system for nearly 3 years. My daughter was on the waiting list for 2 years to be sent to the dentist and has not yet been sent for a braces.

Fantastic experience: Excellent NHS dental surgery, very friendly reception ladies and staff. Dr Helen is an amazing dentist, very friendly, competent and professional. I felt very welcome and in good hands.

Negative experience: The experience with the dentist that treated my teeth was very horrible and he has no compassion at all,he didn't asked me for my permission before putting me into root canal treatment and did so many bad treatment to me and complained he answered me nonchalantly all because I refused to complied to get metal dentures, and I have already had tooth build tops that I am paying on credit so he is not happy with. me.Iam not the one who rated the 5stars at the first time he was the one that did that

Positive experience: Opening hours how can you advertise you are open on Saturday and when you call to make an appointment you are closed absolutely ridiculous I have tried to call 3 times today and they are closed update your opening hours on a Saturday!!!
Thank you for your feedback. Our apologies we are definitely open today (Saturdays 10am to 4pm) unfortunately this morning our staff were unable to open up due to a door entry fault. This has been promptly resolved and we are open.

Negative experience: Hi I called the dentist on Saturday as I noticed I was getting an infection in my gum was in so much pain to be told got no appointments call Monday so called at 9am its now 2pm and still nothing I'm sitting in tears because of the pain between the dentists and doctors none of them care about there patients
