Negative experience: Extremely disappointing and unprofessional experience. I booked an appointment for a tooth extraction with this practice — a tooth that has been causing ongoing gum recession and was also part of a future Invisalign plan. I made multiple calls in advance (four, to be exact) to confirm that the extraction could definitely go ahead, as I was planning to get Invisalign elsewhere and agreed to pay the cosmetic/private price for this NHS appointment. Despite all the reassurances, I walked into the appointment only to be met with immediate attitude. The dentist made it clear from the outset that she had no intention of extracting the tooth, saying, “I hope you know I might not be able to take the tooth out,” which was completely contradictory to what I had been told on the phone. The only reason ever mentioned previously for possibly not proceeding was if time ran out—not refusal. Instead of assessing the situation objectively, she interrogated me about where I was getting Invisalign, questioned why they weren’t doing the extraction, and demanded a “letter” from the provider stating which tooth needed to be removed — as if I was incapable of communicating that clearly myself. She then poked around briefly before declaring the tooth “too complicated” for her to remove and said it needed “someone more specialised” — despite being a qualified dentist. My mother, who came with me, noticed her rolling her eyes while I was trying to explain the situation — incredibly unprofessional behaviour. The whole experience felt passive-aggressive, judgmental, and dismissive. I had booked this appointment well before even confirming my Invisalign provider, and it seemed clear they were just unhappy I wasn’t going through them for the full treatment. Would not recommend if you’re expecting straightforward care, respect, or any level of professionalism.

Negative experience: I have got implants with dentist Michelle in February last year and spent nearly 4 grand . Then the teeth have fallen down recently. When I went back to ask fixing it she wanted charge me £38. I don’t understand why she would charge me again, as it is her responsibility to fix.

Fantastic experience: WOW! I have had the pleasure of having Christina as my dentist who is ably assisted by Sarah for a few years now. As well as the brilliant dentistry they have carried out their relaxed but professional manner has put me at ease. I am normally a very nervous patient, but these two ladies and their almost comedy double act have made every visit so much more bearable. Brilliant!

Fantastic experience: My experience with The Dental Practice has been great, too many dentists are relying on treatments 1/ Nothing, no holes or decay 2/ Do fillings to small holes or decay on the top of molars 3/ Tooth extraction offering dentures to bridge gaps which tend to go alongside of the NHS Bands the dentist I got at the practice discovered a hole in the side of my tooth, and offered the option to try to save the tooth with a drill and fill instead of the hole is on its way to the nerve better to extract. The dentist also replaced temporary filling used to repair a broken tooth with a more rubust filling to reconstruct the teeth. They could have just gone ahead and use amalgamite (NHS Offering for fillings, but they offered me white fillings on both, even though it costs more than the NHS treatment, I think the extra costings were worth it. The treatment I got was respectful and virtually painless and felt comfortable throughout my experience from making the appointment to the end of the treatment and payment. The dentist also gave me realistic advice on teeth whitening taking time to provide me with both the benefits and drawbacks of teeth whitening, not trying to persuade me to take the treatment but because I was considering teeth whitening , they made me think more indepth about making that type of decision. Would I recommend the dental practice, yes I would, but there is a waiting list to join as a NHS patient.

Fantastic experience: This practice has been my dentist for years. Everyone at this dental practice are absolutely fantastic. They are very polite and helpful. I would like to give a shout out to Joe - a fantastic dentist and an even better person with a heart of gold. We will be forever indebted to Joe's kindness. My poor partner Dawn has been through a terrible few years with cancer and due to not being able to have dental treatment during her chemo and of cause the Covid she was disgustingly kicked off her old dentist books. Joe, just being Joe, was asking me how she is so when I explained that she was paying a fortune for dental treatment as she had to go private he told me he would take her on. Thank you Joe! Also I would like to say that Joe's dental nurses are also fantastic. And also the dental hygienist's. My partner Dawn would like to say a few words too. I have never had a dentist who is so kind and caring, good at his job, relaxes you and never thought I would be laughing in a dentist chair! Gary and Dawn

Negative experience: Shocking behaviour, the dentist did not turn up I sat for an hour waiting no appology nothing rescheduled appointment I arrived 10 minutes early cued in reception to be booked in 15 mins to be told I'd missed my appointment ,yet again no appology , the next appointment they removed a perfectly good bridge and replaced with a pallet which I was not consensual to or happy with then refusing to reinstal it because I was nhs I expressed my disappointment and mad another appointment as the pallet was making me ill I missed this appointment again because of the dentists poor time management then to be told to leave the practice as they refused to see me because I defended myself they also stopped seeing an innocent 10year old because she was my daughter and my partner because of association absolute discrimination and unprofessional behaviour receptionist then said that dentist was leaving and to re register with new 1 that was over 18 months ago and still nothing What a bunch of liars..

Fantastic experience: I went here today after ringing around so many dentists I've lost count. Was an emergency appointment and I haven't been to get my teeth looked at since my teens. Having severe wisdom tooth pain. The dentist and his partner were both so helpful to me. I'm in agony at the moment and the compassion showed today means a lot to me. Thank you so much again. ❤️ I know I'll be making dentist appointments in future as he made me instantly feel comfortable and that usually takes a lot for me to relax. Again I can't thank you enough. Fantastic experience: I recently had a dental implant where an abscessed crown used to be. So pleased with the results! Everything was taken care of from extraction to temporary palate; scan, bone graft and finally my new tooth which looks completely natural. All the staff I came into contact with were amazing - friendly and reassuring (I have a lifelong fear of dental work) from first-contact with reception staff to technicians and dentists - they were all lovely, and nothing was too much trouble, relaxed and friendly environment, while being totally professional and they have done a wonderful job. Highly recommend this busy practice which looks after tons of people (and their kids) with kindness, compassion and patience. So grateful ❤️ Thank you!

I attended the surgery today due to loosing my filling chewing a toffee, my treatment with Lawrence was a different experience, he has a excellent customer approach, so gentle and comes across genuinely enthusiastic about giving a good service and saving healthy teeth. He replaced my filling with no discomfort or pain. Excellent service.

Positive experience: Please take into consideration the works going on outside the practice a nightmare for parking took me 15 mins. And being 4 mins late for my appointment they cancelled it. Waited 3 months for this appointment (cracked tooth) to be turned away and had 2 appointments cancelled over the past year (not to do with covid). I have been at this dentist since 70s and it has been amazing. But since all the changes not too sure now, although can't fault my dentist of many years Michelle. I do think they need to take into consideration whats going on around them and give patients a 10 min lee=way, even though we have to wait 15 min or more our appointment.

Negative experience: Was told have to wait over two and a half months for a check up, previously I had booked a emergency appointment same day only to arrive, wait over an hour, and then told to rebook. They seem to need more dentist's or less people or both. Lucky there's plenty of choice in Shields.

Fantastic experience: Having been with the practice since the mid 1970's I have seen it go through several changes, most recently becoming part of a large national group. Whilst this has undoubtedly altered considerably the way the service is delivered as well as the overall appearance of the practice. One thing which has never changed is the performance of the staff. Very friendly, very approachable and professional.

Fantastic experience: I have used this practice for 13+ years Joe has been my dentist in all this time, he has always attended my every need, been extremely friendly, understanding, professional and always hides that needle, i wouldnt go anywhere else.

Negative experience: Absolute joke of a dental practise, it's virtually impossible to get an appointment and when you do finally get in they only provide the bare minimum level of treatment in order to get more people through the service quickly thus maximising profit. When it gets to the point where you are told the soonest appointment they have is SIX months away, when they have specifically told you that you need treatment soon, it's time to reevaluate the service. I've been having serious concerns about gum disease for several years, have asked multiple times for a sub gingeval clean/root planing and nothing apart from a basic scale has been done. I shall be looking for an alternative dental surgery and making complaints to the necessary organisations. This has been ongoing long before the current covid situation, and cannot see an end in sight. Goodbye and good riddance.

Negative experience: Absolute waste of money. Rang and explained I'd like a quote for whitening treatment and the replacement of composites due to whitening process resulting in an eventual shade difference. I was quickly booked in for a consultation costing £21.60 during which the reason for my appointment was not broached, when the appointment was about to end I explained to the dentist what I had wanted from the consultation but I was immediately informed that would be outside of her competency as well as any other dentists within that practice and I should go to a private dental asthetics clinic in Newcastle instead. All 3 times i've had composites replaced they've been by an NHS dentist without any issue voiced. Coming here was a compete waste of time and money. The absolute deciding factor however was going downstairs to reception to pay and witnessing the dental nurse who was in my room along with the receptionists laughing infront of a client, all of the details of my consultation were then reiterated to me by the receptionsts. At no point in my NHS career has it been okay to share client information with receptionists and definitely not infront of the public. A completely unprofessional and uncomfortable place to visit.

Negative experience: They sent me a letter telling me I hadn't paid my bill ! I then had to traipse down to the clinic and actually show them my bank account and the transaction THEY took out ! Your in and out in 5 minutes ! I felt like I rushed so they could get as much business as possible !
