Dentists @146, David Surtees and Associates

Negative experience: I've had 2 fillings over the last year or 2. Both have fell out within a couple months. The 1st 1 was replaced and has stayed in. The latest 1 fell out on Sunday. I'm going to south america for 7 week. The receptionist said they were fully booked and have not been helpful at at. Only offering g me an appointment while I'll be away. Not good dental work or service. I'm currently in patagonia. I rang at 0900 for a couple of days in a row. I told your receptionist when I was traveling. She offered me and appointment a day after I was out of the country. This is the 2nd filling that's fallen out with a couple weeks or month of have it done with your practice. I'm away for 2 months. Your receptionist said. Just do a temporary filling yourself. I'll get it replaced by a competent dentist, who's practice actually understands aftercare on work they've done when I'm home.

Fantastic experience: I've been a patient at this practice for well over 40 years starting in Wallsend, Tynemouth and now Whitley Bay. Lovely professional staff who make you feel at ease and nothing is too much trouble. Would highly recommend

Positive experience: Whether visiting the dentist or hygienist I have absolutely no complaint about the treatment I receive. However it's the communication area that does bother me. My appointment was with the hygienist on thursday21st dec. On Friday 22nd dec I received a text stating I was due an Oral hygiene visit and please ring the practice which I immediately did. My call went to voice mail but as yet I haven't had a reply so I am still unsure what the message was about. I hope whoever reads this will get in contact and explain it.

Positive experience: Disappointed that I had to wait until after 9:30 for a 9:15 appointment. Otherwise the actual appointment was a good experience with a useful discussion about my X-rays.

Positive experience: Warm welcome good choice of magazines while you are waiting friendly personnel

Negative experience: Really disappointing. Appointment was 20 mins late. Broke my filling as part of scale and polish. Put a temporary filling in place and then advised earliest appointment for a replacement filling is 6 weeks time. Very poor.

Fantastic experience: The practice is really friendly, helpful and I'm able to make an appointment easily. My dentist was able to diagnose an issue with my tooth at a very early stage so I could have proactive treatment.

I travel to Whitley Bay from Alnwick but will not change my dental practice as the service I receive is second to none. My hygienist appointment on 4th April 2023 was a very positive experience as always. Shona always does a thorough job and both she and her helper are very pleasant. It definitely makes a big difference. I had a dental/hygienist appointment on 7th January 2021 which I was anxious about as I had a broken front tooth crown to be replaced and of course the worries about COVID. I rang the practice a few days beforehand and received reassurance and a helpful response from the Practice Manager which was a great help. I’m an anxious patient (due to a traumatic experience at a different practice many years ago) and for some reason had to stop the procedure a couple of times just to get my breath. I have to say that once again both the dentist (DS) and dental nurse were extremely patient and careful. The hygienist should have seen me first but because I had seen the dentist beforehand they had to wear additional protective clothing. All done with good grace and professionalism. All of the staff are having to cope with the extra complications of COVID which can’t be easy. I am grateful to them all and wish to thank everyone for continuing to provide a first class dental service. My oral hygiene appointment on Friday 1 October 2021 went really well. Many thanks to Shannon and her team for coming in earlier than usual, being so cheerful and sorting my stained teeth which was a great relief.

Positive experience: I arrived for my appointment ten minutes early. I walked in to an empty reception area with a sign asking me to take a seat, a member of staff will see to me soon. I took a seat as requested. The first member of staff I saw was fifteen minutes after arriving. She asked my name, and that was that.....end of conversation. Not the best experience I have had at this dentist.

Fantastic experience: A filling had fallen out at breakfast and the sharp edge was causing discomfort. I rang the surgery and, although they had no free appointments, I was invited to ‘sit and wait’. I had only waited a short time before David was able to see me. He was his usual affable, calm self despite obviously being very busy and completed the treatment as efficiently as ever. I was very grateful that David and his team were so accommodating. Along with my family, I have been a patient here for many years and can recommend them highly.
