Fantastic experience: After a nervous morning before my appointment.Soon as I met Claire and my Dentist Mr Willimason.i was put at ease straight away.very informative.and friendly ,I would highly recommend this practice and looking forward to getting my treatment.thank you everyone.

Fantastic experience: I visit Church Dental practice every 3 months. As soon as you walk through the door your greeted by pleasant reception staff .My dentist is Johnny I find very pleasant and makes you feel at ease as soon as you sit in his chair. ater having bad experiences with a certain dentist who used to be further down the street I was a nervous patient but thanks to Johnny I'm no longer like this plus the fact he does excellent dental work always their to give advice where needed

Negative experience: A few weeks ago, my husband needed to change his appointment due to a lack of child care for our 18 month old. Only to be told he either would have to attend or be taken off the dental register. The receptionist then questioned why couldn't he bring our child in... It shouldn't have to be explained to a receptionist why it was probably dangerous for him to see the hygienist whilst having a child on his lap. I really don't rate some of the receptionist attitude in this practice. It's a shame because the dental treatment is good. But what a dumb thing to say " keep your child on your lap"

Fantastic experience: Recently had composite bonding done on my upper front teeth, as well as whitening beforehand. From the initial consultation up to the end result, the whole process was perfect. Jonny explained everything in great detail before and during every stage, as well as asking for my input to give me exactly what I was looking for. Would highly recommend to anyone. Also would like to thank Sophie on reception for sorting out my appointments and dealing with any query’s.

Fantastic experience: Ive been seeing Jonny for over 3 years now and hes the best dentist ive ever had. I just to quite literally cry every time I went to the dentist and I would avoid it like the plague. The first time I had my appointment there I did cry. But Jonny is so patient. He makes me feel safe and heard and never rushed. It means Im far more likely to keep regular checks in and get treatment when needed. The practice is beautiful and all the staff are always so welcoming. Would 100% recommend especially if you're a nervous patient

Fantastic experience: I usually see Elin Brooks for my checkups who is excellent. Following a recent X-ray I had to have a back tooth removed and Elin advised me to get a dental implant. She referred me to Scot Williamson also at the practise who is an expert in dental implants. The whole procedure went well. Scott is very knowledgeable and explained the whole process step by step. My treatment is now complete and I am very happy with my implant. Thank you to Scott and Ruth for their excellent work. A big thank you to Elin Brooks too, my regular dentist at the practise.

Fantastic experience: Would highly recommend Jonny for any dental work you’re thinking of getting done. He’s very knowledgable and is generally a really nice dentist! Absolutely love how my teeth have turned out. The practice is lovely and clean and every time I went in I was welcomed by Sophie and Brogan on reception who were really kind and helpful!

Everyone from the reception staff to the dental practitioners were absolutely incredible from the start. Such a chilled and calm environment with zero judgement. Big thanks to Anita who saw me for my 3 appointments in January and a special mention to Niamh today who was in assisting. If you have a fear of dentists or just want a great place to have your dental work done then look no further.

Fantastic experience: Just finished my appointment for a white filling with Sunny and Izzy. They put me completely at ease during the whole procedure and kept me informed throughout. I’m so pleased I opted for this as the end result is better than I expected! Sunny ensured the final result was as natural as possible to the original tooth. I’m back again next month and feel confident the results will be just as good.

Negative experience: Absolutely ridiculous Rang up at 8.30 and was caller number six in a queue one hour later was still number 3 in the queue.

Fantastic experience: Had an emergency dental appointment 3/4/24 to remove a wisdom today as an unregistered patient. Sunny and Izzy were first class immediately making me at ease and the removal of my tooth was totally painless. I am now a registered patient with Sunny. Thank you.

Fantastic experience: I visited curch street practice on Wednesday half expecting to have a tooth extracted I was right but Elen and her assistant were fantastic. We have tried really hard to save the tooth but I put my trust in Elen's professionalism and without any pain or discomfort had the culprit removed. Elen has such a knowledge not just of dentistry but how other health complications can have an impact on your dental health. Thank-you for being so kind and understanding

Positive experience: Friendly staff that get the job done. But now 3 scheduled appointments 6 months in advance of one another and each time it's been late by atleast 30 minutes being nearing 50 the first time. Meaning I am waiting for just under an hour where I should of only been waiting 10 minutes.

Negative experience: Avoid at all cost, called for phone, emergency dental appointment got the number via 111. Call 8:30 when they open and was put through to an answering machine 4 times even tho they open at 8:30 . When my call did get through I was 7th in line and was told they are not appointments and we can’t help you will march but if you call again tomorrow we might be able to. The receptionist was very rude and unhelpful couldn’t point me to any other dentist to help .

Fantastic experience: I went for a normal check up today with Sonny and Simran. Unfortunately I do suffer from dental anxiety after a bad experience at another dentist when I was younger. I can honestly say Sonny was the best dentist I've ever seen. Everything was explained fully and they were both kind and understanding with my nervousness. I think I dare say I'm no longer scared and so happy I've found a good helpful dentist and assistant. Thank you both. The lady on reception was welcoming aswell although I didn't catch her name.

Negative experience: Staff and dentist where amazing however I paid £450 to repair three silver fillings that also included a hygene appointment. Said the hygene appointment will be after the year but still had to pay for it which would be £195 now and a £195 after the three fillings. Got told at reception that the price for hygene appointment was not included and would have to pay more money. That's really expensive for the price. Am upset, I got told when I paid for the exam that it will be £450 for three fillings and a deep clean. It was expensive regardless but now I just feel robbed.

Very efficient and organised. Always greeted with a smile. Just brilliant.

Fantastic experience: I was absolutely scared of the dentist but had an appointment with sunny & Caitlin .sunny explained everything that was going to happen and now I am not scared of the dentist . I had filling a clean and a pallet fitted .I didn't even feel the needle going in me gum to numb it .I had a little problem with the fitting of me denture but was sorted immediately .I would definitely recommend going to church Street dental practice to see sonny&caitlin

Negative experience: The clinical staff were very good. My issue is with Reception. Practically begged for an Emergency appointment for a severe tooth abscess, only to be told by Receptionist that I would have to wait until my dentist came in at 230 to see if she could fit me in. She could not. I was telephoned and told try again 830 tomorrow. Cut off that morning just as I got through and told all emergency appointments had gone. Simply told “well it gets very busy at that time. Called 111 and advised to ring round. Managed to get an appointment with an empathetic receptionist at Kingsgate in Durham. Please take me off your books Houghton- Le -Spring and give your staff some training in manners Sian Chapman

Positive experience: This would have been a 5 star review if the surgery itself was more accessible. I'm a mother of a 2 year old and an 8 month old who both had appointments at the same time. Firstly, the only way to get into the surgery is by a long set of concrete steps, followed by a another 2 inside through the double doors - this was not doable on my own with a double pushchair and I had to ask another patient to help me lift it. Then once checked in I was told to take a seat in the waiting room upstairs! I asked about a lift - there isn't one. I really struggled to get my 2 babies up 2 lots of stairs on my own and my 2 year old isn't okay in unfamiliar places and prefers the comfort of his pushchair. Needless to say there were a lot of tantrums. Their names were called into the dentists office which was up another flight of stairs! I actually couldn't believe it, it almost brought me to tears. Are people in wheelchairs not welcome here? Then, after the stress of getting their dental examinations, I had the fun journey back down the stairs. The staff were wonderful, but it is an absolute shame about the lack of accessibility in this building.

Fantastic experience: After some terrifying experiences at previous dentists I had a lovely first experience at Church Street Dental Practice. The decor is so modern and stylish. The receptionist Brogan was warm and welcoming and both Anita and Susan were lovely throughout the whole appointment.

Fantastic experience: I am a new patient and attended my appointment yesterday for 2 fillings, i really wasn't looking forward to it as i do get really anxious, but i would like to say that Anita and Susan were great,very friendly and caring which made me feel relaxed.

Positive experience: I have always been nervous of going to the dentist, but Anita was fantastic throughout my Invisalign treatment, everything was very thorough, explained well, and I love the results. Sophie (hygienist) is fantastic, caring and explains everything brilliantly, I was super worried about my last appointment but she managed to put my mind at ease quickly. The nurses working alongside the two are also fantastic.

Negative experience: I've been at this surgery on and off over 20 year as thought it was best in area! Dental work possible still is but management and customer service is absolutely diabolical! I'm a single parent of 3 one with Asperger's recently booked in for treatment but due to unforeseen circumstances I missed first appointment due to bereavement in family then had a follow up appointment 2 weeks later on that day in question I gets told my Asperger's child would be getting dropped off at same time as I'd be in appointment this was within hour of appointment time so I phones up to change to a later time or another day yet because I'd totally forgotten last appointment due to funeral and all what comes with it they say I'm no longer allowed NHS treatment and have to pay! They want a consultation fee for first appointment of over £60 to tell me I need fillings and a clean which they'd already been paid for NHS treatment! Then expected me to be able to afford private prices on benefits I barely survive on as it is! Totally disrespectful unhelpful or compassion shown what so ever. Private dentist doing NHS treatment is a shambles sorry they could of had someone booked in for a whitening and straightening making them thousands because I knew what was going to happen when booking appointments!!! Then said you have previously missed appointments in last 2 year oh sorry didn't know I was allowed to get treatment with COVID which I had twice cancelled appointments day before!!

Fantastic experience: I have recently joined this practice after being on a long waiting list. I’m a very nervous patient due to a bad experience at another practice when I was younger. I have to say from coming into the practice to leaving the experience was a positive one. Everyone is very welcoming and polite. The practice looks lovely inside , which helps to make you feel comfortable. I saw Anita and Sue on my visit and they made me feel at ease and and reassured knowing how nervous I was. Anita was a fantastic professional dentist , she talked me through what was happening before doing the treatment and done a great job without any pain from the needle . I’ve never had such a positive visit to a dentist in a long time. I know now for future visits I won’t be as nervous. Thanks again

Fantastic experience: Possibly the best dentist I’ve had if I’m totally honest , not only does the practice look amazing, the waiting area is comfortable and relaxing ( just what you need in a dentist tbh ) the staff are friendly and polite , normally I’m a bit edgy before an appointment especially if I need work doing but since joining this dentist I haven’t worried once , I don’t even feel the needle go in , the work is carried out with absolute top class quality and professionalism , Anita and Susan were extremely welcoming as I came into the surgery and just seem to have a calming effect as they prepare you for the work it’s people like this who deserve recognition as their hard work and team work make it easy to feel calm and relaxed, Anita is an amazing dentist who puts you at ease and has clearly mastered her profession, best dentist I’ve ever had hands down , can see why it took so long to get on their list and I’m so pleased I did , I’ll never worry about a dentist appointment ever again ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Negative experience: Today was the absolute worse dental experience of my life, & I’ve been seeing dentist for 45+ years. I am also a private paying patient. First, I told Anita she had my records wrong. I broke an implant which was a large, back molar. She told me the space was too big and there was a missing tooth there. I counted my teeth after the appt, including the missing one, & she is WRONG!! She jabbed me with the needle without warning & with no numbing gel on my cheek, then she proceeded to push the numbing medicine in very quickly causing me a great deal of pain. When she was done, I said, “Other dentist have told me & have pushed the numbing medicine in slowly which make it hurt far less.” She turned to me & said, “You know, I have been a dentist for over 10 years.” She then picked up her drill & started drilling straight away without giving the medicine any time to numb me. Tears were streaming down my face & my body started shaking, & Anita either didn’t notice or didn’t care. She took a medical history on me at my first appointment, & I told her I suffer from fibromyalgia & hEDS. The stress of this experience is going to cause my fibromyalgia & hEDS to painfully flare up over the next few days to a week. Also, I’m an American, & after reading good reviews about her, I feel like she is being prejudice against me or something. Anita doesn’t even deserve 1 star! I went to this practice because more than a couple of people highly recommended them to me. Suffice to say, I won’t be back & I’ll be contacting the Dental General Council due to the very poor quality of overall patient care!! Edit on 24/6/2023 - When I saw Anita, she took x-rays and said I had decay and some broken teeth to be fixed then gave me a treatment plan that would cost me £800. I was told that if I let 30 days go by without having any of the work done, I would be charged another £60 checkup fee. I went to a different dentist today who had a state of the art x-ray machine that goes around your entire head, and absolutely NO decay showed up on this x-ray. I’m glad I didn’t go back and have Anita drill into any teeth that were perfectly healthy.
