The Glasgow Dental Hospital and School is the pre-eminent centre for specialist oral health care, education and research in West and Central Scotland. In addition to its City Centre premises, the Dental Hospital operates from out-reach clinics and surgeries and serves a population of 3 million, from a total of 26 locations.
It is an active participant in joint health promotion initiatives with Greater Glasgow and Clyde NHS Board and Primary Care services. Fantastic experience: Couldn’t give any higher praise to the Glasgow dental hospital. Had a particularly bad experience with an abscess and the dental hospital staff including the dentist, Andrew, were amazing with me. I have really bad dental anxiety and they helped reassure me and ease those feelings immediately. Truly amazing people
Positive experience: the students and there teachers are amazing so i would reccomend it, but if you aren't able to go yourself and need someone to take you and they can't so you need to change appointment time or you end up ill they say it's your fault and cancel your appointment completely, also they say they will do treatment like scale and polish after the work or if you have problems with a tooth close to another tooth that was taken out you can get another appointment only to tell you we aren't a normal hospital and get quite rude. honestly if it wasn't due to me trusting the students and the teacher's i would of gave a 1 star (and yes i have had treatment here before the staff are nice the students are nice and the teachers are nice) so long story short if you ever get a appointment DONT GET ILL before the appointment
Fantastic experience: Haven't been to a dentist in 35years due to fear, got a tooth infection, Glasgow Dental hospital made me feel safe comfortable and reassured me. Treated my tooth and gave antibiotics can't praise them highly enough, especially my student dentist.
Negative experience: Frustrated experience as my husband has been there for thrice for surgery and every time they denied that they don’t have interpreter even they didn’t allow me to be there. He is coming from his job all the time if they are unable to organise an interpreter they should been informed him. He is suffering from toothache more than 6 months if he will face any problem hospital will be responsible.

Negative experience: I am writing to express my significant dissatisfaction with the service I have received from your clinic. After an initial four-month wait for my first appointment, it was subsequently rescheduled for another four months later. Having already invested a considerable amount of time, I took a day off work to attend the rescheduled appointment. Unfortunately, due to an unforeseen car accident that occurred directly in front of me this morning, I arrived 17 minutes late. Consequently, my appointment was canceled, and I was offered a new one 67 days from now. This situation is particularly distressing given that I am experiencing severe pain from a wisdom tooth requiring urgent removal. The handling of my case reflects a concerning lack of organizational efficiency and a disregard for patient time and discomfort. I will not be recommending this clinic to others.

From the moment you enter, everyone is so friendly and highly professional. Thank you to the kind dentist and dental nurse who saw me on Sunday, 12th Oct 2025. I rang NHS 111 at 1 am on Sunday. Fantastic experience: My wife attended on Friday 29.8.25. From entering the building to leaving all the staff we met from the Receptionists to Medical staff where all friendly and professional. They reassured us and put us completely at ease. Thankyou

Positive experience: Friendly staff. Had mine and my son's appointment here. Have to say accessibility by car is a bit low here. If you are accessing by bus should be good. Car park is only park on street option, which is council parking, so not free. But you should find spots as it's usually quiet.
Fantastic experience: Phoned NHS 24 at midday about severe toothache and explained my fear of the dentists and how much I hated going but by 15:25pm I was sat in the chair getting my treatment and I can’t thank the dentist and nurse for their professionalism and how I was treated from start to finish . Exemplary service from everyone involved .
Negative experience: They were friendly but didn't do anything to help with my pain in my tooth just referred me to go to their student program instead Edit: since having an actual dentist look, the tooth that they said was the problem was not the problem, they didn't even bother to give me an xray. If the NHS send you here then request to be sent elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: I have been attending the dental school since the beginning of the year. I had a bridge that I had for 40 years which was broken and unsightly. Unfortunately there was no way I could afford to get a replacement as they are very expensive. I emailed the hospital and very promptly was sent out a form to complete. The process takes time ️ because of the student holidays it has taken about 5 visits. From the moment you walk through the door the staff from reception to the clinical staff are amazing and you are very well treated . The dentists are there watching everything the students are doing so don’t think you are a there and it’s a student who is working on you alone. You are constantly asked if you are okay and not in any pain. My bridge was fitted today and I can’t tell you how happy I am with it and it cost me nothing apart from my train fare although I saw a sign that indicated you can claim travel costs. They arrange transport for the infirm and translators if required. I’ve had the best experience here and I would thoroughly recommend the hospital to anyone who can’t afford treatment which we all know is very expensive.

Fantastic experience: Had to come in because of an infection. Dentists usually make me very nervous. Jenny and Donna were very reassuring and kind. They performed the procedure within 20 minutes with little to no pain. Would recommend if you need emergency dental treatment.
Negative experience: I have never had any issues at the hospital (even the students are lovely) until now. Went in emergency because of throbbing aching pain on the top left side of my mouth and expected that the dentist would properly take a look. I was unfortunate enough to encounter Dr. Hazel, who was very dismissive and only seemed to care about getting people to go to the private clinic where she works so that she can make money off it. Made up a whole thing of ‘I don’t normally take on new patients because I only accept patients that I like so I’ll refer you’. What an inappropriate and unprofessional thing to say to a patient who is in pain and just wants to get treated. It was like she wanted to get me out as fast as I came in. Do not recommend her at all.
Fantastic experience: First class. Had a scan and impacted wisdom tooth removed, a biopsy and a cyst drainedvlast week. It took an hour to remove tooth but dentist and his assistant were confident and professional. They ensured I was comfortable throughout the procedure and gave an in-depth overview of what to expect over following 3 weeks. Couldn't ask for better care than that. I'm disabled and I was treated with care and respect from all staff.

Fantastic experience: I am so grateful I've been given an emergency appointment in Glasgow dental hospital, after two days of unimaginable pain that a cocktail of painkillers couldn't calm, refusals in several local surgeries. I was so scared, thinking there going to be a language barrier and I'll be sent home again- such a nice surprise. All members were so helpful and kind - the reception staff, the dentist and his assistant. The dentist explained every step, he was kind and supportive and made the procedure I am terrified of to pass easy. Thank you!
Fantastic experience: Had to find an emergency dentist for my elderly mum. None of the private places would take her. Ended up at the Dental Hospital, they took her that morning, she was nervous at first but from the moment we went in to the moment we left they were fantastic with her. She was so happy with the respect she was shown and the treatment she got. Thanks to the Dental Hospital for making the visit so good, my mum is now not so scared about the dentist, bonus outcome!

Fantastic experience: I cannot thank you enough! Dr Scott Wright and Mr Mclaughlin are true professionals who really engaged my son and made complex teeth extraction feel like child's play. They really spoil the child with attention and my son loved them! They have such a tough job on their hands as it's not only ensuring the child is happy but also his parents. This must be so hard-Scott kept me as a parent just as much in his attention as my son and really made us both feel at ease. Negative experience: 18 months and counting I've been waiting for you to give me an appropriate appointment. I took days of time off work to come in and let your students work on my mouth. I had to have a camera look down my tooth because of a bend in my root canal. But then when the crown tooth was fitted, it broke after a number of weeks. When I came back to have it sorted, id already taken more than enough time off work for this to be rectified. I have clients too. I booked an appropriate time only to be told when I was there that there wasnt enough time to do the work ♂️ 18 months on and I'm still waiting for you to offer an appropriate appointment and fix this. I wont pay another dentist to fix your shoddy work. And I'm guessing said student who messed this up, is now practising. How do your students learn from mistakes if they dont rectify them?
Fantastic experience: On Friday night I was given an emergency appointment at the Dental Hospital out-of-hours service. I was extremely anxious following a two week history of pain, infection and gum swelling. I was seen by Andrew Mercer [Dentist] and Kerry McGeough [Dental Nurse]. It was explained that I would need a tooth extraction, something I am terrified of. I cannot explain how much care and patience was shown to me by both of them. Andrew carefully explained to me what would happen and really put me at ease, he explained each stage of the procedure and took his time giving me support throughout the process. Andrew was fantastic with exceptional patient skills. Kerry was equally kind and supportive and helped me through the whole thing, she held my hand throughout and made me feel supported. Thank you so much to both of them.
Fantastic experience: After living with the worst toothache I have dealt with for 3 days, I was referred to GDH by NHS24 due to being between registrations of a dental practice. Every member of staff that I interacted with from the person on the door, to those in reception, the dental nurse, the dentist, EVERYONE were absolutely fantastic! I can't remember their names but the dental nurse and the dentist dealing with me today were so professional and non-judgemental and put me completely at ease. They explained everything from why I was getting the toothache to how they were going to sort it and what happens in the tooth afterwards. I cannot recommend GDH enough and I am so grateful to them for sorting me out in a pain-free and quick manner.

Fantastic experience: Had my 3 year old at the dental hospital today and honestly couldn’t thank them enough for their attentiveness. My daughter doesn’t speak fully yet and doesn’t sit at peace for long but they were so so patient with her and really lovely people. Dr Abdulla and Dr Park in paediatric dentistry are fabulous and a massive thank you to the nurses who basically babysat for me while I spoke to the doctors!
Negative experience: They do not care about the patient all they are interested in is quickly getting you in and getting you out!! I am going to make sure that they will answer to the mistakes that they have made!!
Fantastic experience: Had an amazing experience after being scared to go to the dentist for 4ish years. Diane and Cheryl were the two looking after me and made me feel so at ease, they looked after me so well and I couldn’t recommend it enough. Negative experience: Shocked and appalled! I went because I had a very bad and painful abscess on both my teeth. But I was sent away with just simple antibiotics. I talked to the female blonde dentist telling her it won't pass with just antibiotics, it never has in the past, since I have a history of these, and they have to be open to let infection ooze out! She sent me away with an antibiotics prescription and told me to get a dentist close to where I live! I told her it's very painful, and she acted as if she can do nothing and like she isn't a dentist herself! NEVER AGAIN! NEVER! Disgusting, shocking and appalling! I was in so much so severe pain and had to wait to get to a hopefully normal dentist in another place the next day! Could lose both of my teeth over this incompetent and lazy woman! APPALLING AND BEYOND SHOCKING! Don't go there if you want to keep your teeth!
Negative experience: I was on asking for help this morning as I was in the worst pain. Swelling, infection , the lot. The first man I spoke to was so nice and really helpful, however, the man I was put through to on a different number was arrogant, abrupt and no compassion whatsoever. I couldn't even get a full sentence out before he interrupted me basically showing a lack of interest in anything I had to say. Maybe put this guy through a course on how NOT to treat the public!!!

Negative experience: Called them first thing in the morning after 10 hours of holding frozen peas to my mouth for them to "transfer me" and then hung up on me.

Fantastic experience: Referred here by FVRI due to them not having CT equipment. Arrived early for appointment and taken right away. Special thanks to Diane who made our visit relaxed and carried out scan etc without any fuss. All other staff we had contact with were friendly and polite.

Negative experience: I would avoid calling them the reception staff are a joke - got bounced around 3 times to a different department until eventually reaching management who had to deal with my issue. I needed referred to a specific department but reception cut me off in the middle explanation and transferred me to a random one! Only thought I’d leave this review because apparently it is an ongoing constant issue for the management staff to deal with which shouldn’t be happening. The current receptionist attitude isn’t good enough for a healthcare provider.
Negative experience: The doctor wanted to perform experimental surgery on my daughter without taking into consideration cyst in her jaw canal size of 14mm and growing!! Avoid if you have complicated jaw deformation!!!

Negative experience: This place is no longer a walk-in service because of covid. Ring NHS 24 out of hours for a dental emergency - they say. NHS24 will triage you (devote your evening to this). You'll get a prescription for antibiotics, if you're lucky. From which out-of-hours chemist though? I hope you've got transport. (I was told: collect tonight or not at all) What do antibiotics really solve though when you are getting recurring infections. Food goes in our mouth every day. I walked in, in the end. Wisdom tooth impacted (+chest pain, shivering, nausea). But staff here are paid to be obtuse and gaslight your symptoms and disown any responsibility or duty of care - even if you are getting recurring infection and day in+out pain. "We can't give you a prescription" they said. "Go to your dentist" is the script and (if they even look in your mouth - you will fight for this!) expect to get parked on a wait list for 12+ months. Your pain and distress isn't of interest to them. An abscess can even cause sepsis but they literally don't care. No-one can get a new NHS dentist since covid so this place just feels like some cartel of dentistry, compelling you to go private (and spend a fortune) to get out of pain. It was such a totally hostile place and exists mainly for referral from dentists and A&E, that I can tell.The word "hospital" here actually feels like false advertising. Their mission is to lose you. Dental health if you're lucky in Scotland. Isn't it terrible. And who is managing the public's expectations of NHS 24?

Negative experience: Terrible place. My aunt has a severe toothache, her cheek is swollen, we came to this place because we know that they take it with severe pain. When we arrived, the guard became indignant at us that we did not make an appointment. He didn't even listen to me when I tried to say that the nurse had sent us there before. He said to leave, we went out into the hall. We stand in the hall, call 111, so the guard came to the hall to resent and kicked us out into the street, despite the fact that it was cold and drizzling outside. The attitude is rude, we don’t know all the rules yet, my aunt is in severe pain, and we were simply kicked out.
Fantastic experience: I had a wisdom tooth removed today and the care and empathy I was shown was second to none. Every step of the way, from (Martin) the receptionist to the dental team I saw were fantastic. I would strongly recommend going to the dental hospital.

Fantastic experience: I in true Ellie fashion overestimated how long it would take me to get here and was 2 hours early but they took me in early and the dentist I saw was amazing made me feel really at ease and let me put my headphones in to distract me, I'd been living in pain for over a month and because i had moved to a new place none of the local dentists would register me and my nearest was over 6 miles away. So thankfully we got put in tier 4 meaning my dentist was closed so I called NHS 24 and a dentist called me back next day and had me booked in that day. At my request they extracted the tooth and even though I was really nervous (I have fibromyalgia since my last trip to dentist so I feel pain more intensely, so understandably I was worried) and dentist kept me at ease and she was very fast and efficient. Even when I felt really woozy and shakey afterwards they helped me to reception and let me sit for a while till I felt steady enough to go home. Cannot fault them at all.

Negative experience: For dentist from 5 flor ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ My wee boy had accident on the nursery so my dentist sent us to dental hospital. The dentist from 5 flor were amazed they were so nice, gentle and professional. But ther sent us on the 3 flor on the x-ray and there was nightmare the women there was so rude to me wasn't gentle with my 2 years old son first her question was "what did you do to him" it wasn't my fault what heppen to my wee boy. She acting me very bad i was so upset about that situation and the way she treated me and my son. She wasn't good with my boy he cry a lot anyway she didn't do that xrey and she told me I need to come back next week no way I back there

Fantastic experience: Had an out of hours appointment after being kept up all night with pain. Staff were very friendly. Didn't have long to wait and treatment was very quick, and painless.
Fantastic experience: The consultation I had was great. All the staff I interacted with were friendly and professional. I have an issue that has been very difficult to diagnose which I believe has frustrated two previous general dentists of mine, this is why my GP referred me to the oral surgery. The oral surgery was not the best place I should have been sent in the end but that was my GP's fault. With that in mind, Who I seen for the consultation was very patient and did what they could to diagnose and inform me of what steps I should take to help resolve my issues to what I believe the absolute best of their ability which I greatly appreciate. I could not have asked for better treatment.

Fantastic experience: I am absolutely terrified of dentists, and have put off going for years but had to go as an emergency and the lady dentist I seen was extremely patient and very calming, just wish all dentist were like Alice and her nurse ❤
Fantastic experience: Lovely staff, quick and efficient handling of patients. Accommodated my partner who had chicken pox and made sure he didn't have to wait with other patients.

Fantastic experience: First class treatment from all concerned, reception, nurses, and dentist . Had my wisdom tooth removed and was treated very well. Good job to everyone .

Negative experience: Taken close to a year just to get a post removed from a root! First appointment in May 18' after my dentist failed on several attempts even after waiting for a "special tool" from Oct 17' I'm then informed my visit was an "exploratory visit" to check my dentist was correct!!! NO mention of this on the appointment letter! 2pm mid week NO STAFF bar two to review my teeth - an entire floor of equipped chairs and tools prob around 30 EMPTY bays! NO reference to actual work required! Third class citizen service for NHS despite the fact we pay taxes and provide all the resources for these private NHS agenda pocket fillers! Next appointment to see if they can remove the stuck post in a root...9am SEPT 18' - I'm 30 miles away!!! Even after raising my issues with my MSP there has been NO proactive service! Utterly pathetic service with brutal limitations on treatments unless you can find £2k for implants and other choices!!!! Where's the outrage!? Seriously - stronger for Scotland - in what possible way! OUR NHS DENTAL IS BROKEN and this service spells out just how little they give a F - called the so called manager Waters 7 times - rings right through with NO alternative contact or messaging service! More games! Utterly terrible service.
Negative experience: I have tried to post this with no stars but won't let me. I give it no star rating. I have been attending the 6th floor which is students for almost 2yrs now. I have kept quiet over that time and let them get on with whatever needs done to make my dentures. The 1st student didn't do a great job so they promised to make me dentures I would be happy with. After all this time 1 of the dentists who is very arrogant decided that in the middle of repositioning the teeth he would just have them made into my final set. They very clearly don't fit and after getting extremely upset and begging them to just make them fit and look ok, he sent me away saying they were fine and they don't think they can do anything more to help me and that it will cost in excess of £5000 to get this done privately. I seen another dentist at the hospital I was sure would fix the obvious mistakes. Nope not to be. All he done was backed up his buddy. I have dentures that I can't talk, eat or drink with and they think this is acceptable. Everyone keeps asking what's wrong with my mouth and can't believe I've been left like this by dentists who are actually teaching students. What hope have the students or patients got with dentists like these. I wish I could post pictures as they are absolutely shocking. Any dentist would be disgusted by the way I've been left. I am still attending but my hope of having properly functioning dentures that look ok is disappearing fast. I am absolutely devastated after all this time.

Fantastic experience: Up for a CT Scan. In and out in 20 mins. Very little waiting. Staff very friendly.
Positive experience: Prepare for a long wait if you have an appointment . Staff were very polite tho.
Positive experience: Had been refurbished from my last visit and now looking and feeling a lot more welcoming. Staff seem less under stress and more relaxed and so putting you at ease. Yes it can take a long time for an appointment but when you think how many people are referred here is not surprising. Very professional and polite staff who are willing to help.

Negative experience: NOT THE DENTAL HOSPITAL!!! If you zone out and blindly follow google maps like I did today you will find that this doesn’t NOT in fact take you to the dental hospital or even the correct street. It takes you to The Daily Mail building- which may cause as much pain as a bad dental experience but is nowhere near as useful.
