At Seaham Smiles, we are a friendly dental practice with a passion for perfection. Seaham Smiles was founded by Nigel Suggett, practice owner and principal dentist, 13 years ago. Since then Nigel has renovated the practice and moved it into the high-end dental practice that it is today.

From the very first visit Nigel listened and provided the best advice for my situation, these were more around being able to eat again properly after several years with some missing teeth, rather than cosmetic looks in my case. The work required was complex, as a sinus lift was required, and at all times both Nigel and Ellie were amazing throughout, providing me with reassurance, clear information and making sure I was at ease. Fantastic experience: I am really scared of going to dentist but needs must. Had an abscess on Friday, given X-ray and antibiotics. Really painful this morning. Rob performed an extraction, Jane assisted. The atmosphere was calm. Every step explained thoroughly. Highly recommended

Fantastic experience: Had my dental implant at Seaham smiles done by Nigel. Everything was clearly explained and the cost was competitive. It was a complex job as I had a crown and bridge there already but Nigel did a fantastic job and I am really pleased! When I had questions during the process his assistant Ellie also talked me through that, even getting back to me out of hours. Really professional and highly recommend.

Negative experience: started a root canal procedure then tried to charge 600 pound to finish it, as a student i didn’t have the money (obviously) acted as if it was 20 quid and 5 months later i still have an infection cause i can’t afford it

Fantastic experience: Ive had a few appointments with Dan, and a hygiene appointment with Kiska. Jenna has been my dental nurse for each appointment. I was really nervous for my first appointment as I'd put off going to the dentist due to my fears. Dan took x rays and made a plan for me. I then came back to have 2 deep fillings and finally a smaller filling. Throughout all appointments Dan and Jenna made sure I was ok and knew what was happening at all times. The relaxed atmosphere was just what I needed to feel at ease and I had full confidence in them both through the whole procedures. They were absolutely fantastic, so much so I no longer have any fear going to the dentist! I also had a scale and polish and gum treatment with Kiska and Jenna. These ladies were absolutely lovely with me and my teeth look totally amazing now! I cant believe the improvement in my teeth. Can't recommend them all enough! I have had some really bad experiences in the past at different surgeries and I felt very very nervous about my treatment and appointment. Stacey put me at ease and preformed her magic. Fantastic experience: A very big thank to Stacey Fenwick who through her skilled dental work has given me smile to be proud of, I have never stopped smiling since the months of treatment was completed in early September 2025. Throughout my treatment plan Stacey gave me reassurance during the many hours of dental work and particularly during the dental work at the front of my mouth which I was highly anxious about but thanks to her professionalism I really did not need to be anxious at all. Fantastic experience: My bridge fractured which required me needing a dental implant. I felt really apprehensive about this. Nigel & Ellie were fantastic and explained everything in layman’s terms which gave me so much reassurance for getting the procedure done. They are both so professional, most importantly so friendly which helped me relax. Everything from start to finish was done collaboratively between the three of us. Communication was always open where I was able to ask questions which gave me reassurance for my next appointment. Amazing technology which allowed for far less invasive procedures than I had previously experienced. 100% attention given as to how the implant would enhance my appearance and give me confidence to be able to bite safely. The most important part for me was NO PAIN experienced at all. I am so happy with my new teeth THANK YOU.

Fantastic experience: I was recommended to Nigel for my dental implant from my own dentist as he said “this is the guy I would want to do an implant for me if I needed one”. From the start Nigel and Ellie were professional and explained every thing that I personally needed to know and a whole lot more . Everything from start to finish was fantastic and would recommend them to anyone needing an implant.

Fantastic experience: My bridge snapped after 9 years so decided to get a fixed implant in. Needed a lot of work done first as the gum needed building back up again which took a few months. Finally had the implant fitted yesterday. Can't fault the team. Nigel and Ellie were amazing from start to finish. The attention to detail and constant communication all the way. Fantastic experience: Mam had to see her dentist, Jia, after chipping a tooth from a fall. In less than an hour's appointment, Mam had been fully checked out and had her tooth built back up to look like a normal tooth again. Brilliant service, my Mam was delighted.

Fantastic experience: I have recently joined Seaham Smiles as it was impossible to get appointments with my previous dentist! I have just had 2 lots of root canal fillings with Megan, and must say what a brilliant dentist she is. My tooth feels better now than it has for year's. I was expecting some pain after the anaesthetic had worn off, but absolutely no pain at all, and didn't feel a thing. Negative experience: Asked them some information on the phone, a rude member of staff suddenly told me that they don't accept NHS patients. WOW. When I said that I can go privately she continued to say that I had to sign up for their membership plan and without it they couldn't do any treatments. I'm sorry to say it but for me this means taking advantage of the desperation of people who not only have to pay a lot of money for a treatment that unfortunately is necessary but also a monthly payment that should be an offer and not an imposition.

We have some limited spots remaining and the benefits of being on our plan include inclusive maintenance appointments, exclusive discounts, plus much more. Currently, we are not accepting any New Pay As You Go Patients. However, if you are interested, we do have a waiting list, and we encourage you to get in touch with us so we can assist you with this option.

Negative experience: Experience here has been fairly appalling. Last year, my daughters appointment was cancelled 4 times, each time they wouldn't be able to book for at least another month. She is meant to be seen every 3 months. Then today, we get a letter to say they are no longer accepting children as NHS patients, and we'd have to pay a monthly plan. There's a cost of living crisis, and they think people can afford this? There will be families who cannot afford to take their child for regular check ups, and this dentist practice feels no moral obligation to support. I understand they are a business and need to make money, but not at the expense of children's care. They still got a fee from the NHS (or wherever it comes from)

We understand the frustration and inconvenience caused by the cancellation of your daughter's appointment, we apologise for any inconvenience it may have caused. We strive to provide the best possible care and are actively working to improve our scheduling system to minimize such occurrences in the future.
Regarding the change in our NHS contract, we want to clarify that it was not a decision made lightly. We did attempt to negotiate with the NHS to continue providing services to children, but unfortunately, our request was refused. We understand the importance of accessible dental care, especially for children.
We recognise the current cost of living crisis, and we empathise with the financial strain many families are experiencing. We have adopted a new practice policy and see children 6 and unders 'FREE of charge', with a parent/guardian signed upto our membership plan. Fantastic experience: I have recently had 2 implants with a 3 teeth Bridge fitted by Nigel Suggett. I cannot recommend Nigel and his dental nurse Elisha highly enough. From start to finish Nigel explained each process and I was kept fully informed. The whole process took 13 weeks but it was so worth the wait. I am really pleased with my new teeth and feel much more confident as I am able to eat better, talk better without having the gap in my mouth and more importantly I'm able to smile with confidence so.... a massive thank you to Nigel and Elisha.
