Negative experience: I have been a NHS patient with this practice since 1984 when Mr Collins senior ran it , then his son Stephen took over and my dental care was faultless. I was disappointed when he retired but was prepared to try the new dentist. I have never been anxious visiting the dentist till they took over. I have paid expensive bills with unresolved issues needing other dental practices to sort them out. I was so disappointed and felt that when ever I opened my mouth they saw pound signs not what was best for me. I no longer receive treatment at this practice and have found a dentist who looks after me not their bank balance.

Fantastic experience: Saja, and her dental nurse were brilliant, excellent treatment, very considerate and caring, explaining everything that was being done. Very gentle touch, don’t think anyone enjoys a visit to the dentist, but treatment like this makes a big difference, Thanks very much.

The team listened to my concerns, treated me with kindness, and we worked out a clear treatment plan I can follow. Every member of staff was fantastic. I’d highly recommend booking an appointment, no matter what condition your teeth are in.

Fantastic experience: I had an appointment with Mahisa today. It was a lovely experience with her. She had a very gentle manner and her approach put me at ease. She wasn’t rushed at all. I felt she did a thorough job too with the time I had with her. Publicly saying thank you, Mahisa.

Negative experience: The dentist was very rough. 2 days later I lost part of the top of a lower incisor. May just be coincidence but he lifted my head off the seat while scraping at the back of my teeth during a check-up. I've been with the practice since 2009. I'm not going back if it means that chap is in the driving seat. No no no!!!

Fantastic experience: I've been an NHS patient at Ecclesall Dental since they took it over from Collins and Ball, and now have Saja as my regular dentist. Today she extracted a tooth and although it isn't a nice experience, Saja was kind and professional, and did a really good job. The anaesthetic injections were relatively painfree, and I felt reassured throughout the procedure. I've also been pleased with how I've been treated, and felt like the receptionist team did their best to get me seen as quickly as they could.

Fantastic experience: Friendly and professional. The young lady who works on the front desk is always polite and professional. She started when the new people tuck over from Steve . She always finds solutions to problems like emergency appointments . I forgot to book an appointment for 2 weeks after my antibiotics to have root canel and was quite frustrated that I was going to have to wait another month . Within 20 minutes she had rebooked me in with another dentist that had availability. They always explain things really well and supply options for treatments. A fantastic nhs dentist surgery

Fantastic experience: Nervous about new 'regime', after change of ownership, but absolutely brilliant experience with dentist Mel Needham and her assistant. Everything was fully explained & extremely gently carried out and regular checks on my comfort. I cannot praise them enough & won't worry when my next appointment is due. Many thanks.

Fantastic experience: Just back from the dentist, feel so good! It started with meeting Mahisa. She listened to me and checked around the area I was concerned about. She gave me reassurance that the situation was manageable and completed the inspection of my mouth, explaining in simple terms what my problems were and how to rectify them. I warmed to her immediately. She referred me to the hygienist. At reception I was informed that there was a slot in 15 mins time to see the hygienist so I took it. Minutes later I was with Mel and Nicola. I have never been to a hygienist before as my former dentist used to do a clean and polish during the inspection. Mel explained the process and took time to clean up my mouth, aided by Nicola. She gave me lots of advice. My teeth look and feel fantastic. Am very pleased and will continue to use this service. Fantastic experience: I saw Mr Hemraj Luniya for a tooth extraction and a clean this week late in the day, although I was very nervous he was very professional along with his assistant and although having a molar tooth removed is not my favourite pastime it went like clockwork, I was a bit Dizzy afterwards and they both made me feel comfortable and reassured and gave me some glucose and made me sit up slowly before I felt well enough to drive home. After few hours of bleeding it soon stopped with there instructions of what to do regarding a swab etc… After a good nights sleep, next day to my surprise I feel no pain whatsoever and needed no pain killers. Fantastic experience: This was the first time i have used Raj and i had a complicated extraction so i was a little nervous. There was no need as Raj put me at my ease. We discussed various options where he explained what he needed to do and why. The actual procedure went smoothly with little discomfort. Raj is very personable and gave me full confidence through out the procedure. My recovery is going well. I would highly recommend Raj.

Fantastic experience: Was sad to see it under new management however, having had my app with Raj I can quite frankly say it was the most swift and extensive check up I’ve ever had. Incredibly thorough which is what I need given my family’s background with dental issues. Great peace of mind and very informative and highly recommend to all. My whole family is registered here and never had we had any issues and I assume under the new management and today’s experience that will continue if not exceed expectations. Great work! Thank you

Positive experience: I was offered a prompt additional emergency appointment & was provided with a prescription at no additional charge (as seen previous day). Good service. I am however a little concerned that a follow up appointment within required time frame for treatment was not available. I'm awaiting a call back from practice to see what might be possible.

Fantastic experience: This practice has recently become part of a larger group. At first I was a little concerned that the one on one service would deteriorate however I can honestly say that the dentist I saw today was excellent. She had clearly read my notes and asked me several questions about my ill- health conditions, which require medication. She then gave me the most thorough examination I have ever experienced. I left the room extremely impressed and would highly recommend this practice. No one "enjoys" the dentist but this was a very competent and helpful woman, who put me completely at ease. Both she and her assistant were smiling and friendly and answered questions freely. Finally a good word for the young lady on reception; she is another helpful and efficient person. All in all a 5 star service.

Fantastic experience: My visit went smoothly. Melisha welcomed me with a smile and gave me the Ipad to fill in my medical records when I arrived. Knowing that I had this to do I arrived slightly early . Next I was taken through to see Youssef who was also friendly and gave a warm welcome. For by checking my teeth he also drew attention to a problem I have with a scab on my forehead,taking photos and informing my local surgery because it was protruding more than it should . Going beyond the remit of his job shows that this surgery cares for their patients. After thanking Yourself and his dental assistant I was then shown upstairs to Mel's surgery to have a couple of fillings replaced. As always a warm welcome and efficient service. The staff are all friendly and efficient, from the point of entry right through to your exit you will find an excellent experience.

In safe hands and felt reassured and confident that everything was being done in my best interest. We all know how anxiety can take over when we go to the dentist but very happy with the service!

Fantastic experience: A truly great dental practice. Mel is just the best! She always puts me at ease, plus her work is rigorous and high quality. The former practice owner Stephen Collins was awesome too, and we were sorry to see him go. But now the practice is headed up by a guy called Dragon (!) which is pretty damn cool. He's super nice too. The assistants are great, all smiles, no scowls. Plus there's free toothpastes. Pow!

Fantastic experience: First appointment for a check up today with Saja. I told her I was a nervous patient and she soon put me at ease. She explained all the checks as she carried them out, such as jaw, mouth, gum and glands before looking at my teeth. She was gentle and cleaned my bottom teeth painlessly with an aqua jet and then gave me advice on cleaning to avoid plaque build up. Saja was professional, kind and gentle - everything you would want from a good dentist. Thank you, Saja!

Positive experience: The reception staff and dental nurses are always friendly; greeted with a smile and patience! My experience with dentist Raad Abdulhamed has been a mixed one and I hope he will continue to adapt to improve the patient experience as going to the dentist can be daunting for most I imagine. I am a particularly nervous patient and Raad’s quite quick and to the point approach in my first appointment was not the best for calming my nerves. However, he did explain all available options to me with regards to the wisdom tooth extraction I would need and I booked in for the following week. I did advise him during this appointment that I was very nervous and find the dentist very stressful. The following week when going in for my extraction, it was like I was being seen by another dentist. Raad explained what was about to happen very clearly, I did not feel rushed and the dental staff with him were also very reassuring. I felt confident with him completing the extraction, even though still very nervous. I left the dentist that day feeling more comfortable seeing him again for my check-up in 6 months time. Whilst for now my review is 4 * given my slightly shaky start… if the more considered approach remains when I see Raad again, then I will give the full 5*. All I say is patience, kindness and compassion can make a visit to the dentist a much more pleasant experience.

Negative experience: Really dissatisfied with the service I received. I had to book in privately due to ongoing NHS shortages and long waiting lists. I was told on the phone the check up would be £55 and included two x-rays. During my appointment I was told that I needed a third due to an impacted wisdom tooth. However, it wasn’t properly explained as to why this wasn’t covered in the two x-rays already outlined. He then proceeded to outline a list of additional charges including a clean which would come to £130. The dentist was curt and lacked any bedside manner and I felt pressured and rushed to accept those costs there and then. What’s worse, the dentist was extremely rough and the whole process was painful ( despite me highlighting it was uncomfortable and him continuing regardless). I know a trip to the dentist isn’t always a pleasant experience but I’ve never had an experience like this before. I agree with other reviews that it feels like this practice is operating as a business and not with patients best interests at heart. Particularly private patients who they seem to view as cash cows. To add insult to injury, the dentist then tried hard to flog me cosmetic alignment treatment. So I came away with both a sore mouth and poor self confidence about my teeth — what a horrible experience!

Fantastic experience: Just attended ecclesall dental care and all I can say is that it was fantastic! I saw Aleena for a checkup and impressions, she was very well in explaining the process and everything I needed to do with improving my brushing. Lovely staff and an amazing experience. I would definitely recommend.

Negative experience: I have been going to this practice for over 20+ years and unfortunately had a very bad experience on my recent visit since it’s changed hands. The dentist started the check by muttering ‘christ’ as they looked round my mouth, followed by ‘you’re not going to be my friend after this’. After telling me I needed several fillings and an extraction they lent against the wall shaking their head and said ‘Losing a tooth at your age. I would be very upset if I was you’. Reflecting back it seems like a comedy sketch due to the sheer lack of empathy and how they communicated. Regardless of what is needed done, there are far more professional ways of working with patients and I hope this feedback is taken onboard.

Fantastic experience: I recently visited Ecclesall Dental Care for a check up, I must say I was a little nervous after reading some of the reviews but wanted to review my experience of the practice as I feel we are generally quick to write about negative experiences but not so much about our positive. My appointment had been moved a couple of times due to issues with recruitment of NHS dentist which is understandable as this is currently an issue all over the UK so I tried to not give the reception a hard time. I was met by a friendly receptionist who asked me to fill in a few forms prior to going through to the dentist, I was pleased to see these were done on tablets rather than paper, they seemed to be with moving with the times and conscious of the environment in regards to paper. I was offered help if I had any issues. I was met by Raad who introduced himself and his nurse which was great as it was the first dental visit I’d had with him. My appointment wasn’t rushed, I had x-rays which were throughly explained and gone though with me at the computer, I was given several options, what he as a clinician advised, risks and benefits of all options. I feel my experience overall was as pleasant as a dental visit can be. I appreciate all the hard work of dental professionals working in the NHS in these difficult times and I would recommend the practice to friends and family.

Negative experience: My goodness, how a place can change and NOT for the better. A 5 minute appointment costing nearly £26 - an absolute cash-cow for the new owners. I question the dentist’s competence and he was difficult to understand, and quite rough. It seems to me that it is a ‘get them in, quick look, and book an appointment with the hygienist’ is the default procedure at this place. This is the second time I’ve been (with the new owners) and I wasn’t impressed the first time, but I thought it was because they’d just taken over (again - in, rushed, £25, see hygienist, take money, bye). Gone are the fabulous days with Stephen who showed an interest and took his time. Will be looking for a new dentist asap. PLEASE IGNORE MY COMMENT BELOW FROM 4 YEARS AGO. Stephen is a real character and extremely professional at the same time. He explains procedures so clearly and completes them with absolute competence. A very caring place who offer necessary treatment (unlike the dental practice I left) and are not there to ‘rip you off’. I can actually say it is a pleasure to visit!! Thank you all.

Both children were feeling slightly nervous but Riz was fabulous and put them at ease straight away with a sense of humour that made the appointment very easy! Negative experience: I am very disappointed by my first visit to what was Collins & Ball dental practice which has now changed hands. Within seconds of being there I was told I needed X-rays, which is obvs an acceptable request, which I agreed too. After a few minutes, the dentist proceeded to tell me I wasn’t going to like what I was going to be told but I needed 8 fillings!!!!! My teeth are by no means perfect, but I have been coming to the dentist every year, and up until now, not had many problems since I had a lot of teeth repaired around 10 years ago- I also had X-rays only a year ago with no issues. I did comment that I wouldn’t have been surprised if I needed a few but certainly not 8! I was also told, that I would be even more disappointed to know that the NHS do not do white fillings, which I have, and that I would have to pay if I wanted white fillings and that service would then be a private fee. It all felt very much like a hard sell, totally impersonal and the whole thing was done and dusted in minutes! I think I had my mouth open for a few minutes while she shaved a cracked tooth down. I then went to the receptionist, and was given a list of all the costs for the work that needed doing and asked to sign the document, which I didn’t. I will be seeking a second opinion on this and also moving my children from the practice.

Negative experience: Avoid if you’re expecting the wonderful care you received from Collins & Ball, my first visit was an awful experience by a dentist called Raad, it felt forceful and rushed , I unfortunately gave them a second chance 6 months later with a different dentist, however I was kept waiting for over 20 mins and then when I went in to my surprise the check up took 5 mins and then I was asked to make another appointment for a polish and clean with THEIR dental hygienist , this meant I was paying more money because it bounced me up to Band 3, if that appointment had been with Collins or Ball it would have been done that day so I would agree with review that it is now run as a business.

Positive experience: Having been a patient of Stephen Collins for about 30 years I was extremely nervous, but having now been treated by Aleena I feel completely reassured. Unfortunately my husband was allocated to another dentist in the practice and hasn't been able to even get a checkup yet

Negative experience: Avoid at all costs. Used to be brilliant, but after Steve Collins retired, it's been taken over by total incomptents. Impossible to contact them, if you somehow manage to get an appointment they send you a letter telling you they've had to cancel it and you have to get in touch to make another (this has happened to me over and over again). Saw a dentist there who didn't give me a chance to actually explain what was wrong and why I'd come in - looked at my teeth in the most cursory way and didn't even see the problem, then without a word of warning suddenly started drilling at the back of my front teeth with an assistant spraying water in my mouth, I nearly choked. Terrible.

Positive experience: Always had excellent service throughout the years . When I had a problem it was dealt with there and then . Had a recent appointment, felt the dentist looked was very rand didn't understand my problem . Had x-ray before but found this painful why ?? Had to book an appointment felt this dentist didn't take time and would take more time on priv6 work

Of course I expect changes when this happens, however a few unwelcome changes are: The check up was rushed, I could not understand the dentist sometimes because he spoke so fast and with a mask, there is a lack of communication with the new dentists (they don't say if you need to brush more or less, or mention when you should come back for a check up). Overall, they do the job, but all of the positive aspects which made Collin and Ball a good dentist have left with Stephen l.

Fantastic experience: Greeted by patient, knowledgeable and helpful reception staff. 'Ris' & 'Nicola' (Dentist & Nurse /Assistant) dealt with a pretty complicated task, with efficacy & good humour. Ris's skill in repairing the tooth is exceptional. I am grateful & very pleased to be a patient here. I don't often need Dental interventions, but am aware of the enormous difficulties people are having in being able to access Dentists. Great service. Thank you!

Negative experience: Under new ownership so don’t be fooled by the older reviews that were given when the old dentists ran the practice. The new dentists appear to be running it purely for a business, no customer care and were so forceful when cleaning my teeth that I began to cry (they didn’t stop). Avoid at all costs. It’s clear they are only in it to make money. It’s a shame as this practice used to be excellent.

Fantastic experience: Raad removed the most difficult tooth ever. Assisted by Nurse Nicola he did a fantastic job. He was patient, kind and gave me an excellent anaesthetic. I felt no pain whatsoever and the tooth came out in one piece. Thank you.
