Fantastic experience: As a very nervous patient who's encountered both brilliant and dreadful dentists over the years, I can honestly say the team at Kirkgate Dental Surgery is nothing short of wonderful. Everyone, from reception through to the clinical staff, is friendly, considerate, and genuinely caring. They're thoroughly professional and incredibly reassuring. They always take time to explain my options, listen to any concerns I have, and somehow manage to make me feel as relaxed as anyone possibly can be in a dental chair. I couldn't recommend them more highly.

Negative experience: I visited Kirkgate Dental Surgery on 5 August 2025 to have a crown re-cemented by Dr Gemma Hanks, paying £95 for the service. The crown fell off after only 5 days, despite me avoiding chewing on that side and following my usual dental hygiene routine. The real problem, however, was the aftercare. I contacted the practice immediately and explained that I was now experiencing bleeding, swelling, and pain. NHS 111 advised I needed to be seen by a dentist within 24 hours. Despite this, the practice told me they “anticipated” a reply within 20 working days - no urgent appointment was offered, and my request for emergency treatment was ignored entirely. Due to this inadequate response, I had no choice but to arrange urgent treatment with another dentist to fix the problem and prevent further harm. Patients should be aware that in my experience, the aftercare here was slow, dismissive, and did not meet the basic duty of care you would expect from a dental provider. Avoid at any cost!

Fantastic experience: I’ve been a patient of Kirk Gate Surgery for many years and have always had amazing care and treatment. Today however I have found it necessary to express my feelings on this review. Not only are the reception staff amazingly friendly and knowledgeable they put you at ease (and trust me as a nervous patient this is essential) which just helps with the overall experience. Treatment, my original dentist has been preparing me for a new crown so I required a root canal and temporary ‘tooth’ all of which were without doubt the best experience by far I’ve ever had. Crown fitting, happened today and quite honestly it was sublime, yes, in the words of the dentist it felt like I had a marble in my mouth, however once that feeling had subsided the result was amazing. I had a camera inserted into my mouth to take the necessary images (I’ve had the gloop and moulds done in the past) which was so simple and non intrusive as a result the fit of my crown is just perfect. Honestly I cannot recommend Kirkgate highly enough as a FORMER nervous patient they have been nothing but amazing with all of my treatment and I’m looking forward to some Cosmetic treatment to make my smile even more amazing than it is already

Positive experience: Kirkgate are great to deal with. Reminders are sent by text message and my wait in reception is comfortable and short. Treatment is good and staff are very understanding. My score would be even higher other than my surprise at the new higher prices for treatment. That said. I have not yet compared them with other private dental practices in the area.

Fantastic experience: I was very relieved to be able to get an appointment within 2 hours of damaging some of my front after tripping on a kerb and falling on my face. My dentist was on holiday but the practice worked together to ensure I got excellent care. A huge thank you to Catherine for stepping in. Everyone was very professional and caring and left me thoroughly checked over, temporarily patched up, and feeling reassured as to how the long term recovery could be managed along with approximate costs.

Fantastic experience: I’ve been a patient at kirkgate for many years as an NhS and private patient I was happy to go onto Denplan with them when they went private as the service I have received over the years has been outstanding The moment you walk through the door you are greeted with warmth and kindness Claire the receptionist is one of the nicest people you could meet and treats you like an old friend one of the reasons I enjoy going is because of all the staff. My new dentist Dominique and her assistants have been really kind and helpful with my treatments and explain everything throughly I always leave feeling confident and happy with the treatment Very professional service in a friendly environment

Fantastic experience: Kirk Gate Dental Surgery is easily the best dental practice I have been to in and out of Newark. I would never go anywhere else. The receptionists are lovely and my dentist, Kate, is absolutely fantastic. As are all of the dental assistants. I used to hate the dentist and get so nervous, but that has all changed since I’ve been going here :)

Fantastic experience: Always feel relaxed and confident with the treatment I am given .Would not want to go anywhere else .Having tried numerous dental surgeries when I first moved to the area I was not impressed with the standard of care and service given at any of them until I went to Kirkgate . The whole team are stars and really care. One thing I would probably suggest though is perhaps forewarning about taking x-rays before a check up? Wd prefer to arrange this when booking next appt rather than being told whilst in the chair!! Sometimes not prepared for the additional cost when thought I was just having a check up

Fantastic experience: Excellent experience from entering the dental practice and being greeted by efficient reception staff to then receiving highly professional treatment from Dr Bradley and his dental nurse. The front tooth that they repaired with a filling near the gum line now looks like new. Highly recommended.

Negative experience: Dentist was lovely staff very friendly my only concern is how expensive dental treatment is verus NHS treatment for dental care. I can see why people don't go for dental treatment. It's no wonder people pull their own teeth out greedy robbers who claim can't take on NHS patients which really means no money in it so we want private only. The UK is a joke nowadays
