Sedgemead House - Dover Private Dentist

Fantastic experience: I called yesterday for an emergency appointment and was booked in for the evening to see Dr Ken Aylward. I am an extremely nervous person but Dr Aylward was extremely gentle and understanding during my appointment which made me feel extremely relaxed. The reception staff were friendly and welcoming and overall I’m very happy with the experience! The treatment needed for my teeth was explained to me in great detail and Dr Aylward took the care time to explain what steps can be taken for me to achieve good dental steps. I will definitely be returning for the required work and appreciate all the staff for their efforts to make me feel comfortable! :)

Negative experience: I used this practice for 3 years but eventually left due to their policies and service. Initially, they advertised hygienist cleaning for £75, but only if you pay £100+ for a check-up first — which felt unnecessary, especially since the hygienist can often spot issues during the cleaning. They also carried out X-rays without asking my permission, then charged extra for them — which I found unacceptable. To keep the discounted hygienist rate, you’re required to redo the full dental check every 2 years, which isn’t standard elsewhere. Reception staff were often rude and unhelpful, and with only one hygienist, appointments were hard to get. I’ve since moved to another private clinic where the service is much clearer and more respectful.

Fantastic experience: Fantastic treatment. First treatment today and I was terrified. I hate needles which I really panic about. I spoke to surgeon to explain. Wowza . He numbed the area before injection and I can honestly say I never felt a thing. So so pleased and very happy to go back for the remaining treatment. Highly highly recommend. Worth paying private . Fantastic experience: I was able to get a same day appointment with the dentist for my son. Making the appointment was easy, on arrival the receptionist took all his details and made the process nice and easy. We didn't have to wait long to see the dentist. The dentist and dental nurse were both extremely lovely and interacted well with my son and put him at ease. The dentist explained everything to him as he was going along and explained everything to me at the end without making it sound complicated. He made it clear what the ongoing plan would be. My son was overall happy with his experience and relaxed about the whole process. Will definitely be using this surgery going forward for my sons dental care. Thankyou!

Fantastic experience: I first saw Mr Aylward 25 years ago when my previous dentist retired, and the only available NHS dentist I could find in Dover did a bodged repair of a broken crown. Mr Aylward did a proper job of replacing the crown and I've been seeing him since. He has a friendly professional manner and seems to take an interest in his patients. Any treatment required is always explained and has always been pain free. The reception staff have changed over the years but they have always been polite and friendly as well.

Fantastic experience: First time visitor after requiring emergency treatment following a bad experience at an NHS dentist; 2 of my fillings needed removing and replacing. From the initial consult to the treatment I was thoroughly impressed! I was welcomed into the practice and everything was fully explained. The dentist was extremely reassuring, explained every step and was very gentle. He considered my previous reaction to the anaesthetic and made adjustments when it was required for the filling. Although I am now paying for private treatment over NHS, it is true that you get what you pay for. I felt in much safer, friendlier hands and will 100% be back for checkups and hygienist appointments. Thank you for making the experience more bearable!

The staff are always polite, friendly with excellent customer service skills. If I have a problem, they are only a phone call away. Fantastic experience: We have nothing but positive comments to make about Mr Aylward and his team at Sedgemead House. They were very helpful during lockdown when I had concerns about the treatment I was having, which was cut short just before. As soon as we knew the practice was opening again we phoned for two appointments and were lucky enough to get some on the first day of opening. There were a few problems regarding the new procedures which were in place for public safety. However we felt extremely safe and well protected by all the new measures which had been put in place and Mr Aylward and his team coped admirably with what must have been quite a daunting task. The treatment we received was as professional as ever and we have no hesitation in recommending this clinic to anyone who wants to keep their teeth and gums healthy and well looked after. Fantastic experience: I only wish I’d gone private sooner! Having a broken tooth desperately needing an extraction I was so relieved with the gentle and professional manner in which I was treated. I had no pain with the injection at all and even though it was a surgical procedure, being an anxious person, I felt cared for and safe throughout.

Fantastic experience: From the moment I knocked on the door I was welcomed by the receptionist with a friendly smile, after completing the paperwork I was taken into see the dentist as I had been in a lot of pain due to to an infection caused by work on my teeth by another dentist in Dover. Fantastic experience: I needed quite urgent help for a chip on a tooth that was causing me problems. I called the receptionist and I was given a appointment within 40 hours. I sat in reception and had a little sing, there was nobody there waiting. Lovely acoustics. The rest was great, I was extremely happy with all aspects of my treatment. I will definitely go there again in the future.

Fantastic experience: My first visit did not go well and took me a year to return for my second filling, while I considered changing practices as my initial pain was dealt with being advised to use more sensitive toothpaste for my pain. My second visit was with Gona and what a completely different experience. I'm a nervous patient and she (along with her nurse) immediately recognised my distress. We spoke about it and she listened to me. I am now booked in to do the work I wanted done a year ago which means I won't need to use copious amounts of toothpaste for my dental pain soon

Positive experience: A quick and professional experience. The only pain I felt was in my pocket. I am not up to date with the costs involved in dental practice, but I thought the charges were somewhat above my expectations.

Negative experience: Not sure if the charges for PPE put on patients bills to pay for the space suit are fair and warranted. Bit OTT and whenever my husband used the services of Mr Aylward he always found something to do in his mouth yet our new dentist was quite happy.

Fantastic experience: Friendly staff, basically the only dentist accepting new patients at this time and the dentist I saw was very thorough in ensuring I understood how best to look after the old chompers. As positive an experience you can have with someone sticking power tools in your mouth.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely wonderful dentists! I was extremely fearful of dentists for such a long time that I avoided them. I researched heavily for practices when i stumbled upon this practive. The initial consultation was brilliant and I was given a dental plan. It was not just "you have x and need y treatment", it was explained how I got 'X'. On the day of my filling replacements I got in the chair and became teary due to fear but the reassuring nature made me much more settled and distraction by having a normal (non-dentistry related) conversation. The dentist explained everything that they were doing and even gave me short 10 second rests every so often when I needed it. It made for such a pleasant experience and I am no longer afraid of dentists! It is the perfect practice for anyone but amazing for nervous patients.

Negative experience: Great Covid-19 clean environment. Reception great as are the dental assistants. Ken is always gentle and caring. I had the new dentist, she was impatient heavy handed and while having my teeth cleaned had to ask her to stop three times which has never happened before. At the end of this she then tried to sell me multiple expensive treatments and a custom made mouth guard the bill would of ran into thousands. Sadly taking my business elsewhere.

I am sooo scared of dentist but the staff in this Dental Practice is so lovely, professional, calm and patient that will make all your fear to go away. They are so amazing! I totally recomand them ! Fantastic experience: I needed an emergency dental appointment and having lost my usual dentist a couple of years ago and unsuccessfully trying other practices, I happened across Sedgemead House who were able to accommodate me the next morning. I was greeted and made welcome by a friendly receptionist and was equally well treated by the dentist who fully described the problem with my teeth and the expected treatment. I was very impressed with the high standard of service.
