Fantastic experience: I am an extreamley nervous patient and the support and care from Receptionists, Hygenists, Dental Nurses to Dentists on my dental journey has been the best experience I've ever had. For many years and all the practices I used before, I had to have intravenous sedation even just for a check up, but the care at Damira I have actually managed a filling without which is phenomenal. All my appointments had been on the NHS but for no other reason than wanting to explore interventions offered privately I decided to try a private check up. I came away feeling pampered, questions answered and without feeling I had to make a decision. No, I didn't have pamper treatments, but thats how I felt after my last appointment. In terms of professionalism and care there is no difference between their NHS and Private Service. Whichever suits you, I can not reccomend a better dentist as Damira Penge especially for nervous patients, everyone there really takes care of you.

Negative experience: I have never written a Google Review before - but I have to after today. I phoned up 5 weeks ago asking for an NHS appointment. They didn't have much space on Wednesdays which is when I was available - fair enough. I know there's long waits these days - especially for an NHS appointment... The reason I had to ring them is because they never got back to me a few months beforehand, when they said would call to arrange a follow-up for a filling. I could have contacted them, true - but they had already gone back on what they said would happen. As I walk in today, the dentist acts like a car mechanic. She is bartering the price of things. 'How about £200 for a white filling...' 'Not sure I can go any lower...' She has given me no medical advice. Zero duty of care. All I want her to do is give me her professional opinion. It's bizarre. She then tells me they need to do an X-Ray on the tooth we already know needs a filling because I'm halfway through getting a filling. It's £15/x-ray. She did four of them. The other two were on the side of my mouth that has had a cap removed. 'You've had a cap removed there'. Yep, thanks. I just told you that. £60 in total for nothing. At the end of these x-rays, the dentist, who has still given me no medical advice, tells me that she's not an expert in root canal treatment and I should see her friend who works there instead. I walk out of the room very confused, as I assumed all dentists could do root canals. The desk charges me £130 for this meeting with someone who offered me no help, and said the better dentist I need to see is £80 a consultation, but she only comes in once a month. So I had a consultation to get another consultation - and then maybe, just maybe, after all that - I can get some treatment?!!? After seeing a bill for £420 at the desk for all these x-rays and consultations, (I'm not sure how it added up to all this but there were a few more things in they chucked in) I ask, 'Is this really NHS prices? You haven't even done any treatments yet. You've just told me what I already know'. 'No, this is private,' the lady at the desk says. 'Why are you charging me private when I booked an NHS appointment and have waited 5 weeks for it?' 'Sorry - you're just down as private and now we can't change it' Why would anyone wait 5 weeks to have a private consultation with a dentist not qualified to administer the treatment? It is truly a sad indictment of the quality of dentistry in this country right now. I was genuinely flabbergasted at the (lack of) quality of service provided. I hope in the future, Damira Penge treats people more like patients and less like gullible clients. Nobody likes going to the dentist. It's a lot worse when the practice cares far, far more about what you're going to pay them than their duty of care to you. I called up a dentist in South Norwood afterwards and have an NHS appointment on Friday. More fool me for ever going near these cowboys.

Negative experience: I can’t recommend this Dental Practice. Whilst the reception and dental staff are friendly, I felt they focused on upselling and were not entirely trustworthy. I went for a checkup and was first asked if I was happy with my smile. I was told I grind my teeth (although I wear a retainer at night so this is unlikely). I was told I had urgent fillings needed under local anaesthetic and would have to pay privately (£140/tooth) to have these done in white, despite them being front teeth (white should be covered for front teeth under the NHS). I then was told my retainer would definitely not fit with silver NHS amalgam fillings but white might, and I would need to bring the retainer in to see if it would be moulded with the fillings. I was told if I got silver and maybe if I got white, that I would need a new retainer for hundreds of pounds. I was told to book an extra long appointment for the fillings. I tried Damira because I moved house, and went back to my old dentist for a second opinion. There, he did the fillings in white on the day I went for a checkup on the NHS (£75 total, band 2 treatment). He did not use anaesthetic and it was painless. He gave my teeth a thorough clean (Damira did not). He did not ask questions about whitening or my smile and was friendly and efficient. I left happy with my fillings and not feeling scared and like I’d done a bad job with my teeth. He is a good dentist and cares more about patients than money making. I can’t say the same for Damira. Note I was asked to pay a deposit up front for the fillings and when I called for the money back, I was told I had to go in to get it back because I paid in person. This was inconvenient. Then when I went to get the refund, there was sign on the door when reception were away for an hour at lunchtime so I waited 30 mins for no reason. Giving 2 stars instead of 1 because the dentist did a thorough check and did correctly diagnose the need for fillings.

Fantastic experience: What a lovely practice. All the way from the lovely receptionist to the dentist herself and dental nurse. So clean, professional and caring. I was so nervous having a traumatic experiences from another local dentist. Dr Azam was amazing. She made me feel so relaxed and was able to help me in the same day. Positive experience: Had a dentist appointment with someone called Yakeen – surprisingly nice, the only one who ever is. Apparently, my mouth’s in great shape. But NHS registration? Just bait, really. Most treatments, even a quick scale and polish, aren’t covered because they’re not “clinically necessary.” God forbid we invest in prevention.

Fantastic experience: I registered with this practice when I saw their sign outside accepting new NHS patients. I joined a waiting list and within a couple weeks was being offered a prompt appointment for a check up, which I had yesterday and was great, and a cleaning appointment which I had today and again was great. All the people I have experienced, from reception to the dentist to the hygienist, have all been professional and kind.

Negative experience: Worst experience I have encountered in a dentist in a long while especially as I have been a patient there for over 15 years, the dentist in question had no respect of waiting times or professional conduct, showing a lack of disregard of patient care. I had to leave without being seen or treated after waiting 30 minutes even though I arrived promptly for my appointment.

Negative experience: I rang the clinic and tried to book an appointment and they said, I have to take your bank card details and charge the 80£ in advance, I said “I don’t feel comfortable with that” and I said I could popup in 10min and pay straightaway she said that’s fine but when I arrived she was gone. Very unprofessional.

Demand for appointments is very high so we follow this policy to prevent failure to attend. It promotes patients to inform us when they need to cancel so their appointment time can be used to see another patient in need of dental care.

Negative experience: I booked an appointment to see a dentist, but it turned out to be a very disappointing experience. They were 20 minutes late, and the focus seemed to be more on money than patient care. They tried to upsell me unnecessary treatments and charged £85 on the day for essentially doing nothing. Previously, they had misinformed me about my NHS exemption, which led to a fine. This time, they insisted I register as a private patient, despite the fact that I pay taxes to receive NHS dental care. The only advice I was given was to have all my teeth removed and replaced with implants costing £1,900 each — even after I informed them that I’m diabetic and may not be eligible for such procedures. Overall, it was a terrible experience, and I would not recommend this dental practice to anyone. They seem far more interested in profit than in genuinely helping their patients. Subject: Poor Service and Misleading Practices I recently emailed your Penge email address regarding the unsatisfactory service I received. Instead of an apology, I was called and pressured to book an appointment to pay for a service I do not need. I strongly advise others seeking dental care to avoid this company, as they engage in deceptive pricing and recommend unnecessary procedures. Due to the surgery manager's lack of communication and false advertising, I will be sharing my experience across all social media platforms. To add to my frustration, I paid £90 for a mere 15-minute consultation without actual treatment. This has been an extremely disappointing experience, and I hope no one else falls victim to their unethical practices.

Few dentists nowadays include simple plaque cleaning as part of a routine 6-monthly checkup. Time was when they all did! Nowadays, they expect you to make a separate appointment with a dental hygienist which costs £90!

Damira Dental Studios have always serviced both private patients and NHS patients. We have a certain amount of time dedicated to NHS services and some for private services. Sorry that you feel the NHS pricing is excessive. NHS prices are set by the government, and are the same across the board for every dental practice.
All dentists are self-employed and split their time between NHS and private care. Accordingly, there may be a shorter waiting time for private services as there is less demand for them.

Fantastic experience: I am so pleased with the treatment I received from my dentist Paulo and the dental nurse Nisha. Both of them made every effort to make me feel at ease and they very patient with me. They explained every part of the treatment to me and I always felt informed during the process. I am so nervous about going to the dentist but after this course of treatment my anxiety has decreased. The treatment I had was a complex root canal and overlay and no other NHS dentist was willing to attempt this. Paulo was enthusiastic and optimistic the whole way, you can really tell he is passionate about what he does. The root canal was a success due to the expertise of the dentist and nearly 4 months on I’ve had no issues with the tooth. Negative experience: I previously left 5 stars when this was BUPA. I visited again yesterday AND today as couldn’t coordinate a hygienist same day. The previous dentist that everyone speaks highly of has left. I found the one I saw yesterday very unfriendly, condescending and essentially lazy. I’ve never had such an inadequate check as well as misinformation regarding my daughter. Today whilst I’ve watched x3 re receptionists chat, when I called back 5 mins after my appointment then 20mins as the “immediate” email was never received, I kept getting told to appreciate how busy they are with attitude!? Issues with errors when booking etc. obviously won’t be returning.

As an added bonus, a very sweet kid who had his checkup before mine came running up to me proudly clutching a spiderman sticker before departing with a big grin. At the end of my appointment I was handed a rather dull looking sticker with a bland design. I feigned disappointment and mentioned that I had seen a kid with a spiderman sticker in the waiting area. Before I had even finished my sentence, I was handed the coveted sticker (I was offered a princess sticker and being a very modern man considered it momentarily but opted for Spidey). Such joy I felt!! So to recap, lovely people with a great sense of humour and they even made my teeth look nicer. Much nicer.

Negative experience: Unhelpful and irritatingly made me book an appointment to tell me I had to book an appointment?? Very frustrating and just generally acted like they couldn’t be bothered to examine me which they didn’t. Sent me away with a coupon for an electric toothbrush after coming in for debilitating gum and tooth pain.

Negative experience: I must start by saying I think the staff are lovely. Always friendly, and really helpful. This review is in no way a reflection of them. If anything, they're the reason I've not moved dentists until now. This practice changes hands pretty often and as such, the rates for dental care increase and are now just unaffordable to me. They are also now asking for a prepaid deposit for any future appointments. I appreciate there are people that book appointments and don't turn up so I can understand if these people are asked for a deposit. I've not missed an appointment ever. I'm afraid yesterday was the final straw when I was told the cost for my hygienist appointment. I wish the staff there well, but enough is enough and I have already started the process of moving my family to a new practice.

Our payment in advance policy requires all patients to pay the full amount or a percentage at the time of booking the appointment. Demand for appointments is very high so we follow this policy to prevent failure to attend. It promotes patients to inform us when they need to cancel so their appointment time can be used to see another patient in need of dental care.

Fantastic experience: Having had negative experiences at the dentist in the past, I found that Damira Penge completely transformed my perspective. From the moment I walked in, anxious and nervous, I was greeted by a warm and friendly receptionist. Shortly thereafter, a kind dental assistant called my name and introduced me to the compassionate dentist who would be treating me. I explained my previous experiences at another dental office, and immediately felt safe and welcomed. Throughout the entire visit, I was constantly reassured and asked if I was comfortable. If you are anxious about visiting the dentist, this is definitely the place to go. I left feeling extremely satisfied with my dental work and elated to have found my forever dentist.
