Mydentist The Broadway has been a dental practice for over 30 years. Offering both private and NHS options.
We have four surgeries which cater for three permanent Dentists and two Hygienists. Our Dentists offer a variety of treatments including general dentistry and more specialized dentistry including Whitening, Invisalign and Six Months Smile.

Negative experience: Awful customer service. I've been a patient for 4 years and last Thursday and rang and nobody picked up the phone even though I was 1st in the queue. I left a message and nobody came back to me. I rang again on Monday and asked to speak to Sara. They passed me over to her. She said, this line is not very clear, I will call you back in a minute. 3 days later, I am still waiting. Definitely I am going somewhere else now.
We are sorry to receive your review however on investigation you are not a patient at our practice and we do not have anybody called Sara at the practice. I believe you may have added the review to the wrong practice and would therefore request that you remove this and add it to the correct one in order that we can address your comments.

Negative experience: I waited for months for my dental hygenist appointment and paid the £25 deposit. Just few days before my appointment I've got a call that they have to cancel it, as the hygienist left...really? Just now? On a top of it, if I want a refund, I have to go to the practice as due to their new system, they cannot do it over the phone. The next available appointment is in late July...plus when I asked if my appointment and deposit could be transferred to the other mydentist practice at Station Road, they said no, and I would have to pay over £100 for the treatment as I'm not their patient. This is not true, as paying for a dental hygienist treatment is not in the NHS band, therefore it's the same. This place is getting worse and worse. A lovely dental hygienist called Elaine used to work there and she also left years ago...what's going on in this place? Not to mention, that there's supposed to be a cancellation time frame. If I don't go to my appointment, I'll lose my deposit, but it's okay to cancel my appointment within 2 working days? Update: I got there yesterday around 4:45pm (the earliest I could after work) and the door was closed. There's a ring bell for assistance, so I pressed it but nothing happened. I did it few more times in the next 5 minutes, and although the door was closed, I could hear noises and people talking. So I decided to call them in case they are busy with another patient and the phone said: "you are second in the queue, please hold". So I did and about a minute later the tone changed to: "we cannot take your call this time, please try later". I tried one more time to ring the doorbell and finally someone came out, a very rude person who I explained I would like to get my deposit back and she said the receptionist went home, she doesn't know how to do it and she is alone there. She said call on Monday but what for if they cannot refund the deposit via phone? She didn't apologise but showed a bit of an attitude and clearly lied being alone, when I heard different voices. This place is highly unprofessional and doesn't function well. I called the other practice at Station Road and got an appointment for Tuesday. It didn't cost £100.

Negative experience: Like many others without warning I was moved over from NHS to private dental care. After speaking to reception on Monday to repair a filling that had come out I was quoted an upfront charge of £125 but maybe charged a bit more on the day. My appointment was on Thursday I was charged an additional £245 for the filling and my original £125 payment became an emergency appointment. In the end I paid £370 a lot more than I was quoted. I was never told the up front costs was going to pay for an emergency appointment that I had to wait 4 days to get. I did complain to the receptionist on the day but she was very abrupt with me. Update after head office left a message for me to contact the practice manager I did but was a total waste of my time. To make matters worse my new filling dropped out. Fortunately there are other dentists around not charging more for the same service. So much for being a customer for over 30 years.

Fantastic experience: I just want to leave this review for the excellent service I have just received. I have been a patient since 2006, but I needed extensive peri dental work this time around. The receptionist Amy, dental nurse Emma and Dentist, Marina Dourou were first class and did everything to explain the procedure and put my mind at ease. I was pleased to receive the local anaesthetic, which was Lidocane and the first procedure lasted @ 45 minutes. I now have the follow up appointment booked in for two week's time for another 45 minutes to complete the other side of my mouth. No one likes visiting the dentist, least of all myself. Who can actually say they look forward to having all those fingers and instruments in their mouths? Everyone at {my} dentist at The Broadway, St Ives were fantastic and I would highly recommend them for their professionalism and outstanding expertise.

Negative experience: Myself and family have been going to this dentist for the last couple of years and honestly I’ve never been overly impressed. The reception staff are often too busy talking amongst themselves to give a warm and friendly welcome to their patients and I’ve always found the dentist quite passive aggressive with how she talks to me is quite patronising. The final straw has been with them removing my husband from the NHS list due to the dentist cancelling the appointment herself, after seeing a new dentist today and being told that half of what she was saying about our teeth and treatment wasn’t needed I can see she’s done us a favour! Use with caution, or just don’t use at all!!!

Negative experience: I have been coming to this dentist for over 10 years. I had taken my son for his 6 month check up and asked to then book mine. The receptionist then explained that because my last check up was in October 2022 that I had automatically been put on Private list. My last appointment was cancelled due to dentist not being in. She then went on to say that they had told my husband( who brought my son for his last appointment 12 months previous) to pass message on that if I didn't book appointment I would be on private list. I did not receive letter, email or text message? My husband did not get told this and also they breached patient confidentiality in telling him about my dental care. Receptionist was also quite rude. I have had many of my dental check ups cancelled sometimes on the day. I now have to find a new dentist. Very very disappointed.

Negative experience: I’ve had lots of let downs here due to disorganisation, very disappointing. - Failed to book an xray after an appointment despite saying they would handle it and be in contact, then tried to request repayment of NHS fee as they’d left it to go for to long to reopen. They did dismiss this extra charge eventually but was a big time waste and delayed my treatment. - Rescheduled kids checkup appointment a couple of weeks before it was due to take place despite being booked months in advance. The rescheduled appointment was only available many months later but no choice so had to accept. A few weeks before this rescheduled appointment they then asked to reschedule again due to dentist availability again only offering an appointment in many months time. I had to escalate to point out that this would mean the children hadn’t had a check up in almost 2 years because of the constant reschedules. Another big was of time. - Booked and paid deposit for hygienist appointment. Money taken. Turn up to appointment to be told there’s no appointment booked and the system showed a refund had been made. No correspondence then pulled up bank statement to show no refund had been made either. Got a call later to reschedule in the afternoon and accept the fault was with their new system.

Negative experience: Disappointed after taking an afternoon off work to find the dentist wasn’t there and would be another 30-45 minutes. Not very professional and no notification of lateness until I got there. Rearranged, lost an afternoons holiday and then got Covid for the next one! Usually better than this so hoping it was a one off

Fantastic experience: I came to Claire Brodie after not having been since the start of Covid. Im so glad to have visited as currently unable to get dental appointment due to shortage of denists at practice. Hygienist appointment will keep my gums and teeth in good order before i can see a dentist. Claire very thorough, teeth feel so much better and peace of mind that gum disease is at bay for longer period of time,nay not be without visit. Negative experience: I had booked an appointment and on the day of my appointment, i was checked into their system and was asked to wait in reception for my turn to see the dentist. However, half an hour later, I was informed that no appointments were available, despite my advance booking. I was turned away from the surgery, which was very unprofessional of the staff. I complained to the manager, but they seemed to be covering for each other. The staff working there are unprofessional and poorly trained, so I suggest avoiding them if possible. I am giving one star, but I wish I could give less.

Fantastic experience: My practice for five years. Dr Douras is one of the most calm, kind and efficient dentists I've known, his 30+ years of experience is clearly evident as is his ability to manage complex patients - after some terrible luck during the lockdown I had almost monthly appointments for over a year. Everything about going to a dentist is particularly awful for the neurodiverse yet he prevents it being a terrible experience with reassurance, patience and, crucially, clear instructions! Although the use of unnecessary anaesthetic is rightly minimised pain is always well managed with additional analgesia on request if required. This is all of course achieved with the support of some excellent, professional dental nurses. I really appreciate the absence of 'upsellling' - if I could afford a hygienist or implants I probably would. As I can't it's irrelevant and a pointless, demeaning waste of time, a decent dentist understands their patient's circumstances and makes a treatment plan accordingly. I've lost teeth I might have kept for longer with more money but that's life. An extraction beats an infection every time and is only done once everything else has failed. The rest of the practice staff have always been excellent even if things were a bit fractious when NHS appointments finally resumed. The practice have, at their discretion, committed to maintaining the registrations of existing NHS patients who stay active, book checkups and don't miss appointments which is a great relief in the current climate. I've even known them to be sympathetic to the occasional appointment mix-up, some people live chaotic lives. They still deserve teeth. Sadly as of April 2023 they are still unable to take on new adult NHS patients. This is reflected across the country and the result of successive governments failing to invest, not individual dentists who on the whole want nothing more than to provide the best care to all their patients, something the current contract is making impossible and the reason this remains a five star review - the 'system' gets none! Decent teeth only for those able to pay (twice!) is a slippery, dangerous slope now being seen with GPs, across the NHS as a whole and unacceptable in a wealthy, developed country. It hasn't always been like this, vote for change before it's too late.

Negative experience: Avoid this dental clinic at all costs. I have had one of the worst experiences with them. The reception staff and dentists are rude and untrained, leading me to doubt if they have ever been to school. The surgery manager is the icing on the top. They were previously known as “Broadway Surgery Dental Clinic in St Ives” and have earned a 1.5 rating. To avoid and trick the public, they have changed their name to “MyDentist, The Broadway St Ives”

Negative experience: Very disappointed with this service . I have been a patient of this surgery for around 20 years and since around 4 years ago it’s level of care has dropped at least for NHS patients . My dentist left early last year while I was waiting for treatment since then I call periodically just to be told they were hoping to have a new dentist in place in a few months ( the last time they said this would be April ). Are you actually recruiting ?
We understand people’s frustrations who want routine NHS check-ups however we have limited availability due to NHS dentist vacancies.
We have been working closely with the dentists at our practice and have been prioritising NHS patients who are in pain and in need of urgent treatment. Due to this our diaries are fully booked during our NHS hours, so we are unable to offer routine treatments such as examinations at this time.
We are hoping this may change but until we work through the back log, we cannot confirm a time frame. Please be assured that our clinicians are working incredibly hard to try and accommodate as many patients as possible.
