Negative experience: 2 days of back to back cancellations. The last within an hour of the appointment being due. Dentist is regularly short staffed, 1 person missing is not coverable. This is not the first time a last minute cancellation has happened. Would not recommend if you have a choice

Negative experience: This place scamming folk with overwhelming amounts of cash they want for minor work. Damaged my gums during X-ray with biting down on huge pieces of plastic that obviously didn’t fit in my mouth in first place. Stay away!

Fantastic experience: Strange to hear but i do enjoy my dental visits, I've been going to this practice for over 30 years now even before it was Bupa. iv stayed with my dentists due to the excellent experience on every visit very professional. ive had implant s, veners and other procedures. Tammy the practice manager is lovely and June my dentist is amazing also Alister . wouldn't go anywhere else totally recommend.

Negative experience: I’ve generally found this clinic to be well-organised, but I feel compelled to speak out about a troubling experience with one of the dentists, Jamie Clement. His conduct towards me was, frankly, unacceptable—intolerant and hostile in a way that no patient should ever have to endure, especially in a healthcare setting. There must be a reason Jamie’s name doesn’t appear in the glowing reviews of this practice—and a reason he was the only dentist with availability for the weeks leading up to my first appointment with him. What’s more concerning is the clinic's lack of response to the personal complaint I submitted by email. This silence is deeply disappointing and suggests a worrying disregard for patient welfare and accountability. It’s hard not to wonder: would I have been treated this way if I were a private patient? That question lingers heavily—and the absence of a response from the practice only reinforces my doubt. Update (1): After receiving no response to my direct email, the clinic only acknowledged my complaint after I posted this review — which raises concerns about how seriously patient feedback is taken unless it’s made public. When they did respond, it was with a generic holding email stating they were “sorry to hear I was upset” — a textbook non-apology that sidestepped the actual conduct I described. That email offered no recognition of the behaviour in question, only a vague expression of regret about my reaction. They have stated that they will investigate the other points I raised, and I await their full response. But the lack of initial engagement and the tone of their reply have already left a poor impression of how this clinic handles complaints and accountability. Update (2): I have now received a formal response from Jamie Clement, which has only deepened my concerns. In his version of events, key facts were either misrepresented or omitted altogether. For example, he claimed that my appointment time was fully used up by an X-ray and treatment discussion — yet my original complaint clearly stated that I was abruptly dismissed after the X-ray, well before the scheduled end of the appointment. He also referred to a supposed breakdown in the professional relationship and accused me of using abusive language — an accusation I strongly reject and which conveniently shifts focus away from his own attitude, which I found dismissive and needlessly confrontational from the outset. Worse still, his written response included new claims about my oral health (e.g. an infection) which were never communicated to me during the appointment. Had I truly presented with such an issue, it would have been his duty to explain it clearly — and to treat it, not to send me away. It is deeply troubling to see a healthcare professional attempt to reframe events after the fact, rather than taking responsibility for how a patient was actually treated. I stand by my account — and I believe that patients deserve honesty, dignity, and accountability when they raise serious concerns about their care.

Fantastic experience: From the moment you attend your appointment and until you leave, the team at Bupa Dental Shawlands really look after you. The welcome you receive from both Claire and Susie is superb, the treatment you receive from the principal dentist Alistair Martin is fantastic and his dental hygiene assistant Gail, is amazing. The whole experience at the practice is why I choose to go there. Would definitely recommend.

My dentist, June, is absolutely brilliant: incredibly patient and reassuring, which makes a massive difference as I’m not the biggest fan of dental work! She always takes the time to explain things clearly and puts me at ease. The whole team is friendly and professional, and appointments are always well-organised. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them.

Fantastic experience: I am always impressed with the service provided by all of the staff and have been a patient of June's for several years now. She always makes me feel comfortable and is very friendly.

Fantastic experience: Dr McNeill and all of the other staff I interacted with were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Dr McNeill completed a root canal and crown on me. Dr McNeill talked me through my options clearly and kept me informed throughout the procedures. The procedures were very comfortable with zero pain during or after. I am incredibly happy with my new tooth; it fits my mouth perfectly and looks great. A special mention should also go to Dr McNeill's dental nurse who was very careful with the saliva vacuuming and didn't make me choke once.

June and all the rest of the staff are always so amazing with my daughter, which I think has helped in her being totally fine when visiting the dentist despite suffering a pretty major dental trauma at 9 months old, and as a family we are all incredibly happy with the dental care we have received!

Fantastic experience: Tammy and her team at Bupa Shawlands are fantastic. I'd been to a couple of dentists before coming across this Practice and it is far, far superior to the others. The lovely dental nurse Gail always meets me in reception and the dentist Alistair is a wizard. Even after a car accident which messed up my teeth, I couldn't believe how quickly he and Gail fixed them. Gail was very reassuring and made it a much more comfortable experience. Happy customer! Fantastic experience: My son who’s 17 goes to this dentist and sees Alistair who is supporting him with Braces to straighten his smile, Alistair is very professional, welcoming and pleasant man who has helped my son feel at ease with the whole process, guiding him through the process and helping him feel comfortable. Gail his nurser is lovely too, very informative and helpful. Claire who is also a dental nurse at the practise has went above and beyond to get me the information and reassurance I needed for my son to take this step to fixing his smile. Negative experience: I tried to called for appointment for check-up and the receptionist was incredibly unhelpful and rude. Also, when I asked for a correction to my name, I received unpleasant feedback, and my name was still changed incorrectly.

Fantastic experience: I suffer with anxiety and avoided the dentist for probably 10 years. June is absolutely exceptional in my opinion. Not only has she saved my tooth but she makes me feel at ease ( which is incredibly hard to do ) she talks me through things every step of the way. She is accommodating without being patronising.

Negative experience: I tried registering at the practice BUT was turned down because I missed the initial appointment (as I was unwell). I called the next day and called in to check few times just to be pushed away just for the reason that I didn't show for the initial appointment. Very disappointed

Negative experience: Was a reasonable practice but since Bupa took over a white filling has increased from £72 to £181. When ask about the shocking increase the reception staff have no answers. Nothing more than pure greed!

Negative experience: I had a great experience last year and an okay experience for my check up last month. However, today I went for a scale/polish. Appt at 12:40 and I was out by 12:47. Speed may bode well for most but I found it rushed and sloppy. He scaled all my teeth, back and front without once letting me come up for air or to swallow. He then smeared an overly dry paste (that crumbled down my hoodie) just over my top front teeth and proceed to bash them with the polisher. To the point it was almost painful. I actually glad he “forgot” my bottom teeth. Then I was dismissed with a “we’re done. Just book for a check in”. I have never left a dentists office with my mouth not feeling fresh or clean. I am so put off and if it weren’t for a lack of availability I’d be looking for another dentist.

Negative experience: Disgusting service and attitude from the receptionist staff, please do not register with this practice only care about making money and don’t care about the service that they provide, during lockdown I have been phoning and phoning for a dentist to phone me due to extreme pain and they never did, had to go to the dental hospital where they had to remove a tooth because I had to wait so long!

Fantastic experience: It's hard to know where to begin when reviewing a dentist of such compassion for his patients, such passion for his craft, and such expertise in his field as Bikram. Like so many, I suffer a fairly deep fear of dental procedures. Never have I been made to feel so at ease during my treatment, and despite the complex and lengthy nature of what I had to have done, I was made to feel that winning combo every dentist should strive for: comfortable in my surroundings, and confident in my dentist. As well as Bikram the superstar, the rest of the staff at Bupa Shawlands also never fail to create a warm, inviting atmosphere. The practice is welcoming and friendly, and I always leave wondering what I ever could have been so nervous about. My profound thanks to Bikram and the team, and congratulations for somehow making a former dentaphobe actually look forward to going to the dentist!

Fantastic experience: I have severe anxiety regarding visits to the dentist due to past experiences. I would only attend my old dentist if I had no other choice really . I decided to try out this one on a recommendation from a family member when I had an emergency. The difference is unbelievable. The reception staff are just lovely and make you comfortable. No long waiting times. I'm sure my dentists name is hugh. He explains everything to me and I appreciate his patience. Highly recommend.

Fantastic experience: I called this practice and got a very quick appointment with Saimah. I have had bad experiences with dentists, but between the helpfulness of Tammy and Sainah's professional manner, I was put at ease and got a problem fixed (as a new patient) straight away. Saimah is very thorough and careful as well as reassuring. He was also very gentle with the needle which is a major plus with me. I followed a friend dentist for years to where he worked and he is no longer practicing and I didn't have a local dentist but very happy now to be able to call on Saimah as my dentist. 5 star plus.

Fantastic experience: My neighbour recommended her dentist and the other day I made my first visit to this Bupa Dental Care surgery. I found the receptionist staff to be helpful and the dentists gave me confidence with regards to the treatment I need. I am now registered with them and actually looking forward to my next visit!

Fantastic experience: My family have been using this dental practice for a few years now. I'm a very nervous patient myself and I've received treatment from Saima and various dental nurses over the years here after neglecting my teeth for years due to the fear of actually going to a dentist! Highly recommend, all staff including reception are lovely and professional. I now routinely visit the dentist due to their consideration of nervous patients and ability to put your mind at ease. I've moved away from Shawlands and still prefer to commute to come here.
