Fortwilliam Specialist Dental Clinic

Positive experience: Been waiting 18 months for a referral, called them today to see if I could get the tooth taken out privately because I couldn't wait anymore. The receptionist told me they sent me a letter telling me I'd been referred and a letter offering me an appointment in April LAST YEAR. I had not heard a single word from the clinic, no letters, no calls, no emails, absolutely nothing. They said they'd need a new referral before they even do the extraction privately. Edit: I sent an official complaint to Bupa, whom this practice operates under, and they accepted that this shouldn’t have happened. They were able to book me in under a cancellation, so I was seen yesterday and the tooth is finally gone. The staff at the practice were wonderful, the dentist who took care of me, Maeve, was absolutely fantastic. She talked me through everything that could possibly go wrong and what I should expect. It took her only about 2 minutes to get the tooth out without any complications. She was very very gentle as well, I haven’t even needed to take painkillers today and I barely felt the injections. I cannot fault the service I got when I got it. However, I can’t ignore the fact that I’ve been in pain and had multiple infections in this tooth over the last 8 months that I shouldn’t have needed to experience, and especially now that I know how quickly it could have been resolved, it does leave a bitter taste in my mouth. For that reason I can’t leave a 5 star review, but I would absolutely give Maeve 5 stars if that was an option.

Fantastic experience: Fionna the dentist and Jessica the nurse did an incredible job at putting me at ease, all while being so quick and efficient with everything. I had IV sedation and a wisdom tooth extracted with gums cut away. They talked me through everything, the procedure and aftercare, and put my mind at ease with my questions. I'm an extremely anxious person with dentists, and the procedure was genuinely worrying free, I felt fine and barely remembered anything, with no anxiety for the small snippets I remembered. They completed the procedure so quickly and efficiently. Everyone made sure I was okay the entire way through. Absolutely recommend, especially if you're very nervous like I am. Thanks again to everyone there.

Fantastic experience: I was in yesterday morning for wisdom tooth extraction. Im very nervous in the dentist they helped me relax they had to cut my gum and I must say I felt nothing pain after minimal very good clean and fast fast is key. So thank you if I need more removals in the future I will be back price is fair when u break down the cost plus you can pay before she you can just leave . But thanks again

The receptionists were so helpful and kind and Nicole my dentist was so lovely and calming during the whole appointment including her dental nurse which apologies I didn’t get her name. If you are having to go here or looking to book in for an appointment then I 100% recommend.

Made me feel comfortable from the get go, She unfortunately had to numb my mouth about 20 times her patience with me was unreal. Thank you so much Maeve getting that tooth out was a relief. Fantastic experience: I had a dental extraction done by Meabh and Rosie and they were absolutely fantastic. Such professional care and they really care about their patients. Fantastic experience: I had a large back molar broken below the jawline, dangerously close to bridgework and my sinuses. It was removed with ease, very little pain no damage to the Bridge. I was truly surprised at how quick it was done and how little pain involved

Fantastic experience: Great practice with staff and services provided. Got referred from my dentist for sedation to get wisdom teeth extracted and it was a very quick and painless procedure, exactly what I needed

Fantastic experience: The staff and my Specialist could not have been more kind given my low blood pressure condition and issue with adrenaline injections. Ment they had no option but to use a lower-grade freezing agent which failed in freezing the area completely but went above and beyond in kindness getting the tooth out.

Fantastic experience: Very good dental service. I'm very anxious at any dental work and especially extractions, but Nicola and her team were very reassuring and patient with me; and were able to give me gas & air, which was a great help. The extraction was tricky - but was completed quickly, with little fuss and I had less pain and bruising afterwards than I expected. The aftercare advice was pretty good, too.

I had an appointment to extract my wisdom tooth, was very nervous with the thought of it , however, I couldn't believe how skillfull the dentist was, Mike, it was all over within literally less than 2 minutes, after the local anesthesia was given. Negative experience: I was referred to the practice by my dentist to replace zirconium crown which came off and cracked after being fitted at the same practice only 10 years ago. I have asked the dentist how much the replacement will be, and the dentist first said "Don't know"(?). Then he said it is normally £1000 but will do it for £600 because I am a returning customer. On the day the crown was being fitted, he explained that the crown is mixed metal and zirconium to make it stronger. A bit of metal is now showing on top of my tooth (bottom tooth). 1. No discussion /explanation was offered on the day we discussed the replacement. I wanted zirconium crown, not a "mix" as never heard of one. I like doing my own research and be familiar with the terms before I speak to any specialist. 2. Pricing /fees are not transparent. As a part of your personal details, the practice is asking for your occupation. Conclusion: lack of transparency and communication, promise of a "special" price providing with what seems like a cheaper option. Will not be back.

Fantastic experience: I was in so much pain with my tooth got an appointment the next day though I was going to be sedation but the dentist explained it would be better with gas and air because of my medical history I've had bad experience when younger with another dentist but she put me at ease and in no time tooth was out she was amazing they went above and beyond to make sure I was comfortable I've another tooth to be extracted in due course defo going by gas and air the girls to office staff dentist are fabulous I couldn't ask for better service thank you from the bottom of my heart xx

Fantastic experience: Amazing practice. The staff were friendly, the clinic is immaculately clean. Nicole was my dentist and she was absolutely amazing. I was incredibly nervous and she took every step to make me feel as calm and safe as possible.

Fantastic experience: i went here yesterday to get 2 upper teeth extracted as my own dentist only managed to extract the upper half of both teeth. Nicola did a wonderful job which was virtually pain free. She explained the aftercare to me and gave me a prescription for antibiotics. I was very pleased with the service I received here.

Fantastic experience: I'd say the best and most efficient dental service I have ever received. I was nervous about some quite extensive treatment and they sat me down and explained everything in layman's terms. They were really conversational and upbeat. They were also totally transparent about cost and their fee, on the NHS, was very affordable. When the treatment started it was over in no time, I was in there for less than an hour, and I experienced very little pain in recovery. The dentist was fantastic and the nurse was superb. Would strongly recommend the practice ; )

I’ve an excellent dental practice - BUPA Dental Care, Belmont Rd, East Belfast. I needed major dental surgery for a mega tooth extraction so was referred to Fortwilliam Specialist Dental Practice. One tooth which has served me well for over seventy years had to go! I had genuine concerns having had very bad experience some years ago at another specialist Clinic in Belfast - not part of BUPA Care I need not have worried as the care at Fortwilliam Specialist Dental Practice was outstanding throughout. Communication with the practice was excellent with clear guidance given re treatment procedure. I had my appointment at 11:30 on Thursday 20th October with Nicole McKeever who explained the process, having checked all my medical notes. As I had open heart surgery in March it was recommended that I take an antibiotic one hour before treatment. My upper right six was removed. (UR6). As I did not have additional anaesthesia, the cost was £41:21. I’ve had no pain, no bleeding and no discomfort since. The team were all so professional, competent & caring - they put a smile on my face. I highly recommend Fortwilliam Specialist Dental Practice. Peter S Quigley

Positive experience: 3 extractions simultaneously. Pain for 7 days after, now resolved.

Negative experience: I was referred to this practice due to needing a tooth extracted due to tooth infection. I went down on day one expecting tooth to be removed but instead they did a scan which cost £50. I understood this as they wanted to see what was going on. I went away with an appointment for a few weeks time but a week after this appointment I was in agony so rung to get a new appointment which they willingly arranged for me. On the day of my new appointment myself and husband had travelled from Omagh to Belfast for the appointment but an hour and forty five minutes before the appointment when we were standing in Belfast I was rung and told that I was assigned the wrong dentist and they couldn’t see me. Now I was rung the day before to check if I was still ok for this appointment so why could this not have been seen then as they were clearly looking at my appointment. I honestly felt so let down by this practice that I have since went and received treatment from another dentist. I’m sure the practice members are extremely competent in their jobs but in my eyes they messed me around twice and my trust in them was broken. There was also no gesture of goodwill for two wasted trips to this practice and both myself and husband booking days off work to attend appointments and traveling an hour each way to get here.

Fantastic experience: What a great customer experience I received as a patient of this practice. Recently had a bad tooth removed by Nicole, a suburb dentist who works at this practice. From the moment I made the call and chatted with the reception staff, throughout my treatment and exiting the building the staff were very helpful and extremely customer focused. My procedure was handled with the greatest of care and attention and both the dentist and the dental assistant were very professional. Fantastic experience: Attended this clinic for dental implants under the care of Mark Diamond. Aa very nervous patient who has always been terrified of even entering a dental practice, I can honestly say the whole process from beginning to end was amazing. Mark took on board my heightened state of anxiety and was very reassuring at each visit. I chose to have sedation which helped me relax as well. Negative experience: I think dentists in the place don’t know what are they doing, my girlfriend got sent to there by her dentist to extract tooth, they done it, but then they stitched the hole up and stitched her cheek to the gum , just wondering is there any dentist in the place at all or it’s just someone’s who pretend to be dentists. Not cheap either, 150£ for extraction and couple days off work, just because somebody pretend to be a dentists. Wouldn’t recommend to anyone

Fantastic experience: I went into this clinic for extractions a few days ago, and I can't thank this surgery even for what they did for me. I was greeted at the door by a lovely friendly wee girl. Then i went into see the dentist and dental nurse. They were both amazing with me, I was extremely nervous and they put me at ease, the dentist was so gentle with me and the nurse held my hand the whole through it because of my anxiety. After having quite a few extractions and quite a few stitches, I'm not in any pain at all. I can't recommend this surgery enough. Bless yous All ❤❤❤

Fantastic experience: Was referred here to get wisdom tooth removed aswell as another tooth that was giving me bother had an abscess on which my dentist could not remove. After reading reviews I was slightly concerned as some of the feedback was not great. But my experience was brilliant dentist was brilliant explained everything very well and both teeth where removed in one sitting and with no pain. Had to come on to write a review considering some of the feedback. Would go again if required
