New Road Dental

Negative experience: We have recently gone private at New Rd after many years there on an NHS basis. Since going private we have had two appointments cancelled by the practice, within a month. The second of which was done apparently "accidentally" by reception and we weren't even told. We had paid close to £1000 in advance, for dental work. We are claiming all this back and moving to another practice, which will also be private, same features but at half the monthly cost.

Negative experience: So disappointed with my treatment with the hygienist.l paid £85 for 20 minute appointment which should have been 30 minutes, also l didn't have a polish,only to be told at reception that they don't polish anyone.£85 for just a scale!!! I feel cheated,l have been a customer for over 20 years,this is my first complaint,so dissatisfied.

Fantastic experience: I'd arrived having tripped over and I was patched up by the kind staff in the surgery. It made me a bit late for my filling, but that was still accommodated for me. The filling went well with no pain at all, even afterwards. I also received a follow up call the next day to check if I was OK. Excellent customer service.

Fantastic experience: I have no problems in recommending New Road for any of your dental needs. I have only used them once in an emergency, the day before I was due to go on holiday a couple of weeks ago, and nothing was too much trouble. If they weren't so far away, I'd be asking to join them as regular patient. Thank you Cathy and the team. :)

Negative experience: I’m not happy at all with the lack of communication from this practice! We have been coming to this practice for as long as I can remember, myself, my husband & 2 children! (Which I was told by the receptionist that doesn’t matter how long we’ve been coming to the practice) While attending our appointments which were booked 6 months in advance, we were told our children weren’t booked in as they no longer are with them on the NHS & don’t have an appointment. Although we booked 6 months in advance for all 4 of us?! We had 4 dental check ups booked & 2 hygienists booked from the start of the year. Why let us book them in if you had the intentions of not seeing them again? We were told by the receptionist we would have been told at the last appointment that the kids won’t be NHS anymore & we would have to start paying for them! I was 100% not told this hence why we booked the boys on as normal with us & brought them with us. I can tell you how I know you never told us because if you had told me, my children would have still been booked on for an appointment which I would have had to pay for, but because you know you never told me, you just wiped their appointments from the system & told me they weren’t with the practice anymore when arriving for the appointment. We already pay private for myself & my husband so why would I pay for 2 children under the age of 16? They shouldn’t have to pay at their age! To me, you’ve kicked them off hoping we will pay private for them! It’s bad that we were told nothing until we got there to attend our appointments. My son has major anxiety about coming to the dentist & now I have to find somewhere else for both kids because you won’t have him there unless I pay. Thankfully after asking over a few times they seen my children but was told I would have to pay next time. The receptionist told me because people were signing their kids up & not the parents it was taking up all their time on the NHS & weren’t having enough time for their paying customers. Yet we pay for 2 private adults & our kids still got kicked off. I’m really not happy about it at all.

Negative experience: My appointment was at 10.45, I spent 3-5 minutes in the chair where I had a temporary filling, no preparation just a small amount of cement. £150 absolutely extortionate!!! No wonder poor people are dying from DIY dentistry. No NHS available, why should they when they can make a fortune out of normal working people

Fantastic experience: I had to have my wisdom tooth taken out today and was not looking forward to it but I must say Dr Anna McDonagh made me feel at easy and talked me through exactly what she was going to do she was very gentle and caring and I must say the experience was not as bad as I thought it would be, in fact if I have to have another tooth out I wont worry at all, cannot reccommend her enough, she was brilliant.

Positive experience: I've received good care from this dental practice for many years. My only reserve is the endless questions.. Form filling. One question is how do you feel regarding your wrinkles..??? I'm attending my dentist, not a cosmetic surgery.

I was told to book for 3 months time but once got to reception was told I can’t as they may no longer have a NHS dentist so I need to wait and just call and hope in August. This is worrying as I have never missed an appointment in 57 years now I may be left with no where to go unless I pay more . I would like to know what I should do if there are no longer options for people who can’t go private .

Fantastic experience: Right from when you walk in the door, the reception staff are so welcoming and friendly and make me feel very at ease. Scott, the dental treatment coordinator has been very supportive and was always at the end of the phone during my year of invisilign treatment. He was so helpful coordinating all my appointments to suit me and made me feel comfortable during all my scans which i would usually hate! . Ravi, my dentist has changed my life by changing my jaw/teeth and bite to which i am eternally grateful. He has given me the confidence to show off my smile! Ravi made me feel at ease through all my treatments and I don't feel it's a chore to go to the dentist now as this is the experience at every appointment ive had since. The hygienist appointment i had today was amazing, such a gentle, pleasant experience, and advice afterwards about different colour brushes to use between my teeth for the best results and a printout given to show me how to use them best tailored for me, thank you. I would highly recommend the practice.

Fantastic experience: Have been attending since 2007, whole family are now patients, 10 of us in total, brilliant hygienist, as always very friendly and professional, brilliant dentist who has taken me to 75 years old with all my teeth! Never felt any pain whatsoever.

Positive experience: Good size dental practice however no NHS work as fully private. Based in a converted house on a junction it has just a few parking spaces on site. Although it should be possible to find some on street parking. Establishment is nice and clean just like you'd expect. All the staff are very friendly and helpful

Fantastic experience: Greta and Clare have been fantastic and made a huge impact on my dental health. I have never before received such comprehensive health education which has enabled me to build important habits into my dental routine. The difference has been unbelievable. Thanks to the dental chart I was given I am now able to use the dental brushes effectively which I have always failed in before. Positive experience: I have always been very well looked after at this dental practice for the last thirty five years in a very professional manner and for the last few years my teeth have been under the care of my dentist, Dr Anna Mc Donagh, and my hygienist , Kathryn McCann , who are both very skilled .However i will have to delete one star, as on my last visit on the 3rd June, when booking my next six monthly check up at reception ,I was told, because of a new ruling at the practice, I can not now be guaranteed to see the hygienist I always see and in fact , it may be one of four hygienists on that day. I have been a very loyal patient and do not like been told this when everything has been satisfactory prior to this change in policy. I have verbally stated this at reception ,where the matter has now been resolved so hopefully at my next six monthly check up we can get back to five stars. Colin Gray.

I was a bit nervous to say the least, but they put me at ease, talked me through the appointment from start to finish and provided excellent advice for the upkeep of my teeth and gums. I cannot thank you both enough!

Fantastic experience: I had an appointment with the hygienist today and unfortunately this meant climbing some steep stairs. I have arthritis in my knees and stairs are difficult. They quickly arranged for me to see someone else with just a short delay. I had a full scale and polish and some good advice for looking after my teeth. I saw the dentist next and have booked to go again in 6 months time.

Negative experience: Its great to see you expanding in to the cosmetic side of business but hugely disappointing that basic nhs dentistry is taking a back seat. Ive been told by your reception team on a recent visit that you no longer support my children as nhs patients but if we take on a care plan - that we would need to pay for, you can see them!!! How does that make sense? We have been customers/clients for 5 years and both my children are school age so therefore qualify for nhs treatment.!! We shall take all our business elsewhere! Shame on you .

Fantastic experience: I had my second tooth extraction today by Dr Deanay Chauhan. He was extremely professional and put me at ease straight away. My tooth was taken out with no problems at all and I was in and out in under an hour. The Practice is fabulous and everyone is so polite and friendly

Fantastic experience: I came to this dental practice. via word of mouth recommendation. I was very pleasantly surprised. The place itself is smart and pristine. This is a very busy practice and the reception team clearly work under some pressure. However, the staff without exception are always patient, kind and caring. All treatment was explained clearly prior to delivery and I always left feeling I had been treated with kindness and respect.

Negative experience: Called about a problematic tooth which needed attention in December, and after seeing dentist at a cost of £89 to see what was needed he informed me that it would cost £800 to sort the tooth and was given an appointment in mid February 2025 to treat. New Road Dental Practice text me mid February to say they needed to canceled appointment and to call them to re arrange, I called them and rearranged for mid March.. Mid March arrived with a text to say again they needed to cancel appointment again and to call them to rearrange appointment.. After 3 months of waiting I was not a happy customer as I had left practice leaving a £400 deposit on account to have the tooth sorted at next appointment and after 3 months waiting I still did not have the tooth fixed.. Had to wait 4 days to get my deposit back to be told I was only getting £366 back of my initial £400 as the dentist had X Ray my tooth to which I was unawere, I would of thought they would give me back all my money as I’ve now got to go elsewhere to get tooth sorted, a job they couldn’t complete … I have since found another dentist who has arranged to treat my tooth with an appointment mid March.

Fantastic experience: I had a root canal filling which I was not looking forward to. However it was not nearly as bad as I was dreading. It was really no worse than an ordinary filling except for taking a lot longer. I liked that the procedure was fully explained to me so I knew what was happening at all stages.

Positive experience: I moved here from my 'old' dentist of 14 years after finding it impossible to get a private appointment. Came here and got an initial appointment pretty quickly. On discussion, I rejoined Denplan here as its seemed the logical option. My dentist is great but always get the feeling they are pushing the cosmetic business, of which I have no desire. My biggest gripe is not being able to get a hygienist appointment within a few weeks, it's a few months! Shame they don't invest it this as much as the dentists. As it's part of the Denplan package, that now seem a pricey option without the full benefits. That will be cancelled pretty soon. In mitigation, my wife is having some extended treatment and apart from the ropy communication, she is very happy with the quality of care and outcomes. The parking here is very limited and the entrance very awkward. I'm in two minds at the moment whether I should look elsewhere [again] or just accept this is as good as it gets....

I visited with my 19 month old son and everyone was so friendly and came to help distract and calm him anyway that they could without being asked while I was having my treatment.. there were stickers everywhere by the time we left means a lot not being made to feel like I’m creating a scene - thankyou everyone who helped!

Fantastic experience: Went to a 9am appointment with Mr Aaron Odedra. Right upper 4 metal filling, right upper 8 extraction. Thought it would take all morning! Dr Odedra and his assistant, did a great job! Filling first, wisden out second. No pain, even injection in roof of mouth! All done with exemplary professionalism, bleeding stopped very quickly. Next appointment for check up made in March, and, left the building at 9 40 am. Walked up towards the Railway Station, a very satisfied pensioner! Thank you both and well done!
