Somercotes Dental Practice

Positive experience: Great dental practice only complaint is when trying to phone them. The time wait can be a hour absolutely ridiculous long wait for phone being answered

Negative experience: Absolutely do not recommend having any private treatment done at this practice. I asked for a smile transformation , whitening and edge bonding to my teeth. And ended up with bulky mismatched teeth and an incomplete smile. The treatment I had did not match what was discussed in a consultation that I paid for. And I took out finance what was discussed in the consultation. I was made to sign a treatment plan after the treatment had been carried out. I complained. And did manage to receive a partial refund but has taken months. Please do your research if you are wanting a smile makeover. The dentist cut me during treatment. And my gums peeled. My gums now also bleed when brushing when they didn’t before. I have been left having to pay to put this right by another professional.

Both my boys through the years needed urgent attention and were cared for with patience and professionalism! The same applies for me and my husband. Positive experience: Such a good dental surgery! When I lived in the area I would come every six months and come out with my teeth sparkling clean!! They always did such a good thorough job and prices are reasonable as well!

Fantastic experience: i have just recently visited this dentist practice & i`m so glad i have! Everyone there is very kind friendly & helpful. The two dentists who treated me were excellent, put me at my ease, explained everything they were going to do & were very helpful with their advice. The dental nurses were warm & friendly as were the lovely ladies on reception. I have read the negative reviews & i cannot speak for them because everybody`s experiences are different, but what I can say is, go along for yourself & see how you get on. Because I am SO glad I didn`t let the negative reviews put me off! I highly recommend this dentist!

Negative experience: Tried multiple times to call, sat in queue for 15 minutes each time, then get cut off each time. I sent an email for an appointment, was advised to call the number again,, then I was told they won't treat me, after I asked how to make a complaint. Very poor service Avoid!!!

Negative experience: Nothing but problems with this dentist. I am constantly on hold, they never EVER pick up the phones after hours on hold. It takes me having to drive down, and watch the staff behind in the reception just putting the phone on hold every single time. They are rude when having to cancel an appointment with days of notice but will soon cancel my appointment the day scheduled. I have been trying for ages to get through to arrange a new appointment but of course, they never answer the phone. They should be calling me , rescheduling the appointment. Every time I have disappointment

Positive experience: Quick service efficient polite and really accommodating. Cost effective and reliable. However not specialists in deeper issues and not willing to dispense antibiotics unless there is a swelling which is stupid given the X-ray showed an abscess and infection by the root.

Negative experience: Every aspect of this Dental Practice needs improvement. Takes an age for anyone to answer the phone and most times you'll wait in a queue only for it to disconnect when you get to first in the queue. Appointment reminders get sent out incorrectly, Dentist is incapable of providing the correct treatment, just says " I haven't got time". For emergency treatment I've been asked to wait 1 1/2 months because they have no dentists available, dispite an empty waiting room. Waiting rooms look untidy and windows are filthy.

Negative experience: been postponed second time in 2 month time , propably got to do with im Polish and they dont care to help foreigners i seen the look on receptionist and they dont even pick up phone shut down this awful place

Negative experience: They are a registered NHS dental practice in 3 years I have never seen one of the dentists as they keep making excuses to cancel my appointments once I said I was going private then it was a different matter however I disappointed then by telling them I was going private elsewhere due to how poor service I have received

Fantastic experience: My wife and I use this practice and have found on whole they have been good,however recently we have had Dr Yousef who has been fantastic to the point that my 70+ year old wife has for the first time in her life has been comfortable enough with Yousef she has visited the dentist alone (really proud of her) this is purely and simply down to Yousef absolutely fantastic!!!! Today though the wife was in tears and very distraught after her visit. Upon asking what has happened she informed me the tears was for Dr Yousef as today is his last day(not his choice) all she could do was ask "what can I do now" and "who will I get"....I would like to wish Dr Yousef and his assistant all the best in their next position

Fantastic experience: Me and my wife attended Somercoates Family Dental and found the place brilliant , Sara and her dental nurse Elisa was both brilliant they made my wife who suffers with servere anxiety feel at easy from the moment she walked in and worked to a very good speed and standard to have us both in and out and on our way to reduce stress , with the state of the Nhs side of dentistry and people struggling to find a dentist taking on I would highly recommend Somercoates Family Dental.

Negative experience: Reluctant to believe this is even a working dentist practice I've had such shocking experiences with them! I joined over a year ago and made private appointments for my children in the next couple of weeks, and a NHS appointment for the whole family for in 12 months time. The private appointments were cancelled on the morning of the appointment, with no reason given, just a number for me to rearrange. I called the number several times a day for many days and only heard music playing. I emailed and no response. I have now waited 12 months for the NHS appointment to arrive and once again, I received a text on the morning of the appointment to say that the whole family's appointments have been cancelled and I should call to rearrange ha ha! Total joke, don't waste your time.

Fantastic experience: Today I got my fillings done at somercotes dental practice by Emmanuel, my previous dentist had tried to fill my front teeth about 3 times and each time they fell out the same day, but after my fillings today I can see why, Emmanuel took his time and care into getting the fillings perfect for me, can’t feel them rubbing on my bottom set like before and there’s no chance of accidentally biting them. I’m really impressed with the care and treatment from this dental practice, he got it right the first time and has stopped me worrying about future dental work. The dental assistant was great too. Negative experience: lv been through 111 6 times and ended up here at summercotes terrible experience from the start …. Rude staff rolling there eyes and tutting when you say your on UC which is highly unprofessional….still no work done on my damaged tooth keep getting told to go to 111 and repeat the merry go around after being on hold for 2 bloody hours after being told to take antibiotics and phone back once the course is done only to be holded for hours on end and told to go to 111 …. But on my first appointment got told to ring this practice…. Terrible experience DO NOT RECOMMEND FOR ANYONE WETHER YOUR CHILD OR ADULT TAKE YOUR Business TO A professional decent surgery this is not it

Negative experience: Never answer phone was just on hold for 2 hours getting a hold of this dentist is a pain in the arse and very frustrating I wouldn’t even be on hold for this long with a well known very busy company …. To top it off I heard parts of there conversations in the office “oh right yeah yeah hahaha” all that I find this very unprofessional and I’m seriously considering going elsewhere for my treatment… to top it off there part of 111s emergency dentist so I find this very unprofessional indeed

Negative experience: I had a private visit to clean my teeth. The dentist was rude, he doesn't know how to talk to the patient. I paid 150f for the visit but it wasn't worth the cleaning, my teeth were cleaned badly. I've had my teeth cleaned before and I know what such a procedure should look like, but this one was very painful. The dentist probably doesn't know what it means to be gentle. I don't recommend doing a teeth cleaning procedure.

Negative experience: Dreadful service from start to finish. Calling for an hour with no-one picking up. Stood outside and watched the receptionists scrolling on their phones. I asked why they didn't pick up and they said it was their lunch (despite me calling outside those hours). Asked me to put name and address on an A4 sheet of paper, didn't ask if I had any concerns, was nervous or had any allergies. Then there was the the dentist, Mr Saed Zain. He was truly awful. Advised I was a nervous patient and he had zero empathy. Tried taking an X ray without telling me catching me off guard. I was having trouble with that and after 3 attempts and me in tears, we gave up. He said he would refer me to someone that did did the outer x-ray but never did. I asked for a refund and he said if you have a refund I'll never treat you again! DREADFUL SERVICE!

Negative experience: I had a small dental caries and it had been cleaned and a small filling. Few weeks later I required a new filling, got the appointment 3 months later, got a new one in which on same week it fell (bear in mind I had no drink nor water for 6 hours). I called again, I received an appointment and by the appointment time, my tooth broke in half. She tried to save it, more filling and I had an edge which was continuously cutting my tongue and cheek. Again I called and by the time of the next appointment, only half tooth left, another filling and again, cutting tongue and cheeks. Eventually I had to remove the tooth but even then, not the whole root has been removed and I still have it and it causes a lot of issues. The extraction happened on 02.01.2025 and now, 11/03/2025 I am still waiting for that "2-3 weeks waiting" appointment to remove the whole lot. I have chased it numerous times and complained about this but nobody cares at all "please wait and somebody will contact you" 69 days later. I have paid for all treatments and all appointments, even those which they were just checking the tooth for 2 minutes and asking me to reschedule for a different date. What is the purpose of an appointment if they give you another one anyway so nothing happens meanwhile. I am very very disappointed as I was not expected this especially as I had I-131 in mid January to destroy the thyroid gland and same time, my immune system is extremely low due to it and an infection could be fatal as I am being neglected. Is no cry for help but an warning for those who actually relay on this clinic. I have attached the photo of the extraction which happened in the start of this year and I still have it and is causing me a lot of pain and distress.

Negative experience: They cancel an appointment , but try to ring back and get someone to answer the phone is impossible and frustrating , you have go into the practice. Really frustrating ..

Negative experience: They are good but they took me off their list during covid and won't let me back in

Fantastic experience: Was sent here due to an 111 emergency call. I explained to the dentist my phobia of dentists and she was brilliant in explaining everything they were doing. She couldnt fully help me this time as the infection in my broken tooth was still their, so she has referred me to a specialist and perscribed me stronger antibiotics. Thankyou for making this 46yr old bloke who is scared of dentists less anxious, if only all care professionals were the same

Negative experience: Cancel appointments all the time … and are always running late

Negative experience: Terrible reception staff that are too lazy to answer the phones you have to walk in to change appointments. If you do get through after being put on hold for 30 mins they immediately hang up. If you walk in they can be found sat chatting not doing any work.

Fantastic experience: I’ve had a terrible time with both NHS emergency and then private dentist over the past six weeks. Now had two appointments with Dr Yousif Altigani in Somercotes. He is absolutely brilliant, made me feel at ease, and carefully did a lot of work. Pain free at long last. And nice clean sparkly teeth Actually looking forward to 3 month check up

Negative experience: We were late for the appointment for 14 minutes due to roadwork and traffic, which btw is not really something we can control, tried calling them to explain but they wouldn't pick up and so they cancelled our appointment. Have you never been late to something that wasn't your fault before?

Negative experience: I'd been a patient here for many years... Till covid. Then the dentist I saw left, another two came and went ( both trainees) in 2023 I rang for an appointment only to be told your dentist doesn't wok here anymore. I responded " I'm a patient of the practice not a specific dentist".the next excuse was because I'm disabled they have no dentists working in their downstairs clinic. I was referred by 111 to a dentist over at Mansfield who saw me, treated me and kept me on their books as an NHS patient. Sorry but somercotes dentists practice is terrible and needs investigating, the receptionists and dental nurses are exceptional but the company itself stinks!

Negative experience: The phone system is absolutely shocking. Be prepared to wait for up to 2 hours and still not get through. Do not believe the 'queue' system as when I reached number one I was cut off! Still not managed to get through

Fantastic experience: I am completely petrified of dentists and because of this, I haven't seen a dentist in over 25 years. Unfortunately, I've recently been in unimaginable pain with a back tooth. Somercotes Dental have been absolutely brilliant from first contact through to getting in me in fairly quickly to get my tooth extracted. The dentist and the nurse were very understanding and supportive of my extreme anxieties and I would highly recommend this practice. Thank you all - especially Dr Yousif.

Negative experience: Booked in for a private extraction. Dentist was lovely in person and made me feel at ease. However... Upon trying the extraction they snapped my tooth leaving the roots in then I was just told "we'll refer you to a specialist" then billed me the full amount for a private extraction!

Fantastic experience: When I contacted the dental practice about my toothache they were quick to get me in within 24hrs. Dr Ashly and Nurse Elle carried out my care, which eventually resulted in an extraction. This was not a normal procedure as my roots were curved, this was originally referred to a specialist. But as my pain returned with more was severe Dr Ashley went ahead with the successful extraction. I now feel much better.

Fantastic experience: I have been coming to this dentist for a number of years now, I find my dentist DrSyed Zain very friendly and helpful,in fact all the staff are very friendly and helpful ,Thankyou to Ebony on reception today for your help.The only issue is the fact that they are very very busy and sometimes you have to wait a few weeks for treatment,not their fault just a sign of the times we are now in with NHS Dentist in general, but if you have an emergency they will do their utmost best to get you seen as soon as possible

I telephoned to make a first appointment and spoke to a very pleasant receptionist called Callen Hunt who was extremely helpful throughout the conversation. She also took the time to advise me of all the dental treatments that are available at Somercotes Family Dental.

Negative experience: Called 111 for severe dental pain, they gave me an appointment at this practice. it was for a very decayed tooth, I got there and they took me in, looked at the tooth, didn't do any x-rays, just slapped some filling stuff on it and was out of the room within 5 minutes. It only made the tooth worse, so I paid for nothing and had to go to another dentist :(
