The Orthodontic Practice at Battersea

Fantastic experience: My symptoms were mild sleep apnoea and excessive snoring, leading to regular disrupted sleep. I was lucky to find Sam, and immediately was taken with his patient-centric approach. I got the clear sense that his focus was on helping me, not making money out of me. He got to me to measure my baseline sleep patterns using a cheap phone app. Then, because the data said my symptoms were not chronic, offered me the choice of ‘do nothing’ or have a custom-made mandibular advancement device. Those two initial consultations were both free. I opted for the device, for a flat fee (no extra charges for the follow-ups). Within a month my symptoms improved to the point where I could sleep through the night. I will add that I took a holistic approach to sorting out my health, including running every day and getting treated for hypothyroidism, but Sam’s treatment was absolutely part of getting me to that better place. I would recommend Sam and his Practice to anyone who wants to improve their health.

Fantastic experience: I am very happy with the treatment provided (Braces being put on) my son’s tooth was stuck. But unlike most orthodontists Dr Samir made space for it to grow instead of simply removing wisdom teeth. In order for the treatment to work my son had to follow the instructions Dr Samir gave him. On top of the discipline at home. My son looked after his Braces, his dental hygiene, by brushing his teeth twice a day and following the routine the Orthodontists provided. This includes brushing carefully around and between the braces, thanks to them my son now has a perfect smile braces free. Still had to keep his regular check ups (don’t want the progress to go to waste ). I thank Dr Samir and his team for the brilliant job they have done. I believe if every parent and child work together with the orthodontists they will a smile just as perfect.

Negative experience: I had my braces done here with Sam and received a fixed permanent retainer. It later came off and started scratching the inside of my mouth. I called to ask if I could get it repaired, but was told they were fully booked and couldn’t offer any appointment or solution. The receptionist was dismissive and unhelpful. Unfortunately, there seems to be no after-care service once the treatment is done. I wouldn’t recommend this clinic based on my experience.

Fantastic experience: It has been a pleasure coming to the practice and to maintain I brush my teeth twice a day and once my treatment was done I wore my retainer every night and now my teeth are perfectly aligned. Thank you.

Fantastic experience: This orthodontist is amazing. The treatment is incredible. However to see results in you teeth YOU must help yourself, it’s not up to them to clean your teeth etc.

So knowledgeable, confident in what he’s doing, and genuinely kind. He’s also funny and full of character, which makes every appointment enjoyable. Later on, I needed further treatment (completely my own fault for not wearing my retainers!), but the team were so understanding and helped me out with new braces straight away. Negative experience: My son had to come back to have his braces fixed because he was in a lot of pain. The wire had not been cut short enough and was cutting the inside of his mouth. Quite clearly it was caused by the fact that Dr Sami was in a rush (as he always is). My son thought he needed to get used to the adjustment so he suffered unnecessarily. He was also quite adversarial about cleaning & hygiene…. I felt like we’re getting a lecture from a school teacher.

Fantastic experience: We were so lucky from start to finish. We happened to have our first consultation on a day someone else had cancelled so my son left with his braces fitted. This was obviously quite a shock for him but our orthodontist was so gentle and patient with him he left realising just how lucky he was. Appointments generally run on time and they are so quick and efficient you hardly notice your are there, though it would be nice if they could open the doors a little earlier for those arriving a few minutes early for their 9am appointment. I made a mistake with a scheduled appointment once and they did their best to accommodate us. My sons teeth were pretty bad just over a year ago and now he can smile with confidence. They are pretty much perfect, the teeth and the practice.

Fantastic experience: My teenage son and my daughter have both had excellent orthodontic treatment by Sam and his team involving fixed braces followed by retainers. My daughter followed Sam’s instructions with regard to wearing her retainers and has a beautiful smile. My son wasn’t so careful and has to go back for more fixed retainers!

Fantastic experience: My son‘s journey started a few years ago at the practice when he came to have his teeth measured for braces. At first he was very hesitant because my son has SEN and wasn’t sure about allowing people to put stuff onto his teeth. It felt really uncomfortable for him and the whole experience wasn’t a pleasant one but the people and the orthodontist, all the staff at this clinic were amazing with my son. They took their time with him. They let him pick the colours he wanted every time he returned, he felt relaxed and now his teeth are absolutely perfect. I’ve worked really hard with my son on keeping his teeth clean. He always where he’s retainers and he’s got a beautiful smile with really healthy teeth, straight teeth.

Negative experience: Worst ever calling system. Took me 30 mins and I still couldn’t get my call through. I literally js wanted to change my appointment to next day. I waited as number 1 in line for nearly 15 minutes.

Fantastic experience: Thanks to Sam and the whole team for the exceptional care and brilliant outcome! We were keen to avoid extractions, so went with twin blocks to expand the jaw, followed by braces to straighten everything up. The result is phenomenal – a perfect smile and a full set of teeth. The team were faultless: appointments always on time, service friendly and professional, and communication clear throughout treatment and aftercare. Couldn’t recommend BOP more highly – both the private and NHS services are excellent. Huge thanks to everyone!

Fantastic experience: We received fantastic treatment for our 2 daughters who had train tracks and the whole thing only took 12 months. The service is excellent and the appointments always run to time. The staff are all friendly and helpful. Highly recommended. Follow their advice - wear the bands, clean your teeth properly and avoid sweets and it is easy to get straight teeth.

Negative experience: The worst practice I’ve ever been in my life. Reception staff are unhelpful, rude, lazy and barely carry out their basic duties such as answer the phone and arranging appointments. When you call the average holding time is 20 mins after which If lucky you get an answer if not the line just cuts off. I would strongly recommend going elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend Battersea Orthodontic Practice. I now bring all three of my daughters for orthodontic work. Sam took on some particularly challenging work with one of my children following poor work completed overseas, and has been amazing. They are responsive, highly competent and a lovely team to work with, plus my girls all actually enjoy coming for their visits. I've visited 3 practises in London who either failed to take NHS patients on at all, or didn't have the confidence to treat older children. Lucky to find this team!

Fantastic experience: Highly recommend this practice. I was originally recommended Orthowise after having my children at a private practice on Wandsworth bridge Road. Sam the dentist immediately noticed that my son had a serious anomaly that needed surgical treatment asap. He was astounded that no other dentist had recognised this, as was I! The problem was now more serious as my son was older and it would have been much easier if identified when he was younger. Really shocking to think that it went unnoticed when it was a very obvious problem. Anyway Sam arranged for us to have the surgery done and was so helpful in arranging this quickly and effectively. Delighted we are now under his care and we are confident in getting both our son’s teeth done at Orthowise.

Fantastic experience: My daughter had braces fitted around March 2022. She had an appointment today and no longer needs follow ups. The process was quick but she put in the work to reach this point and worked with the Orthodontist. Thorough brushing and consistently wearing the retainer every night has given fantastic results. Orthodontist knows what they are doing. We are very happy with the service.

Fantastic experience: My teenager inherited two missing adult incisors (very unluckily: one from each parent!!), so had to decide between closing the gaps and removing corresponding bottom row teeth or, opening up symmetrical spaces on top where the missing teeth should have been and filling them with false teeth on bridges. When I was offered the same decision back in the 1980s, my parents chose to close the gaps and remove bottom teeth. The result for me was straight teeth but always with a slight inward tilt that has increased with age. On the advice of our Orthowise, Battersea orthodontist, my teenager chose to wear braces to open up the spaces and then have bridges to fill the gaps. The result looks great! No inward tilt: just beautifully straight symmetrical teeth. Thank you so much to all the staff at Orthowise, who are always polite and helpful.

Fantastic experience: Superb treatment from start to finish, with excellent results I'm super happy with. I'm a 50+ year old male and was daunted by the prospect of wearing a brace for many months to straighten out my teeth and re-align my bite (following decades of disregard!). It took a long time, but Samir and the team got me there in the end. I felt safe and confident in their expert hands and - as mentioned - the results are well beyond my expectations.

Fantastic experience: I was becoming increasingly aware of/uncomfortable with the sub-optimal appearance of my teeth, often evidenced in family photos - I didn’t love what I was seeing. Time to take action. For reference, I am a middle-aged man with two daughters - one of whom had already completed a successful treatment programme with Sam. I assumed my treatment would be invisible aligners, it seems to be a popular choice. Instead, for the realignment I needed, Sam recommended braces - apparently aligners are not always the best solution - and of course, he was right. I grew to like the braces and ironically was in fact disappointed when it was time to have them removed! Sam did a brilliant job, the treatment was a great success, and the ‘big reveal' to partner, friends and family was worth the cost of the treatment. Recommended!

Fantastic experience: My name is Lily and I’m 11 years old, though I was 10 when I first got my Twin block braces. I go to The Orthodontic Practice in Battersea, where I started my journey with braces. I needed them because my jaws weren’t correctly aligned, with an 11mm gap between them. That’s when I met Samir, my orthodontist, who was really friendly and helpful. At first, I was a bit nervous about getting braces. I wasn’t sure if they would hurt or if I might accidentally break them. But none of that happened! When I first put in my twin blocks, it felt strange and new, but I quickly realised it wasn’t as bad as I thought. After just a few days, I got used to wearing them full-time, and they became a normal part of my daily life. The change to my teeth happened a lot quicker than I had expected, and due to wearing them for the recommended duration, the end to end process was shorter and a lot easier. This was also thanks to Samir's support and guidance throughout. The toughest part of wearing the braces was tightening the twin blocks each week. It didn’t usually hurt, though sometimes it made my mouth ache a little. After a few months, the difference was incredible! In such a short time, my braces had made a huge improvement compared to how my jaws were when I started.

Negative experience: Dr Samir waltzed into a consultation for my daughter and proceeded to criticise my own teeth, making assumptions about my dentistry experience and my husband's even though he wasn't there and we were there to talk about our 12yr old daughter. He was pompous and rude. He proceeded to quote an outrageous sum and insist that we should not wait for her baby teeth to fall out and get the braces on immediately but honestly it just felt like a sales pitch and the bloke was so arrogant and unfriendly there is no way I would continue with this practice.

The entire experience was pain free and in a pleasant environment. I would personally recommend everyone to see him as its worth every penny. Negative experience: Unpleasant experience, My daughter went throughlots of pain due to not recieving anaesthesia before gum cleaning procedure, Dr Samir told my daughter she will be getting anaesthesia but surprisingly he refused from his word and the gum cleaning wasn't done properly by Dr Mathews waste of money

Fantastic experience: What can we say about Dr Sami and the team. MG came for braces a few years ago and was given a good "telling off" (she needed it!) on the importance of looking after her teeth as she wasn't doing that very well at all. Dr. Sami and team took her through the process of not just straightening, closing and filling gaps but showing her how to clean and maintain her teeth once braces were fitted and when they eventually were removed. We also purchased the cleaning equipment needed (reasonably priced). Once the braces was removed and all gaps closed MG was given two false teeth because two were missing and the work that had been done was outstanding. In the meantime a retainer was made to complete the work. This she was advised to wear every night whilst having regular check ups. To her credit she has done what's been asked of her and she has followed the advise given by Dr. Sami and this has definitely impacted her to the extent she has made sure to maintain the standard set by him and his team. I can only but praise the work done and the sound advice and care given by the whole team at the practice. She had her final check up on Thursday 30 May 2024 and was given the all clear and has since been discharged by Dr. Sami who was pleased with the outcome. MG FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS from start to finish, and it has produced a nice set of neat, clean teeth. Ok believe this has set her up for life and her smile is even bigger than before. A big thank you to Dr. Sami and the Orthodontic Practice at Battersea.

Negative experience: My daughter who has just turned thirteen had braces fitted a couple of weeks ago. The brackets have come off twice, the first time after one day of having them fitted. When she had the bracket put back on the orthodontist at the practice said it was not her fault and they weren’t put on correctly initially. After the second bracket came off she saw Dr Sami. He was very aggressive from the start and said she had been back three times and it was her fault. I explained there was problem with the fitting. He denied this and said I was being adversarial. He then proceeded to only talk to my daughter very aggressively from close distant whilst she was reclined in the chair. His behaviour is very disturbing and inappropriate especially when communicating with a child.

Fantastic experience: From the first meeting I had with the orthodontist Dr Moghanchi I was put at ease. The Dr looked at my teeth and checked to see if I needed to have braces. When it was confirmed that I did need the braces, the Dr explained to me and my mum what he intended to do when he installed the brace and what the brace would do for my teeth whilst having to wear then for the 18months. First, I saw the hygienist who gave my teeth a through clean, and then I saw the Dr Moghanchi the following week to install the braces. When the braces were installed, they did not hurt at all. The first few hours and that first week it felt different in my mouth and there were a few foods I couldn’t eat as I would damage the braces, so I had to get used to not eating certain fruits like apples for example. I wore braces on the teeth at the same time as wearing the Quad Helix which was fixed to the roof of my mouth. The helix felt weird but didn’t hurt at all. The first 6 month flew by, and I became used to my mouth and the braces. When the Quad Helix was removed, I went onto using the various types of elastic bands for the braces. This helped to shape my mouth to keep my teeth and jaw in a specifc place for 6 weeks at a time. Every month I came to see Dr J Patel and she would advise me on how well I was doing and if we needed to change the types of rubber bands we were using. The different bands created different tensions in the mouth, which yet again was painless, but each band change did feel slightly tighter. Dr Patel showed me at all appointments how to put on my bands. I found the overall experience of having my braces easy and when I came to my appointments, I felt at ease with the information that was provided. The staff were really friendly and welcoming. And I enjoyed my overall experience. Just remember to brush your teeth well, eat the right foods in order not to break your brackets. The journey will be worth it to achieve nice straight teeth.

Fantastic experience: My orthodontic journey, which began in early 2018 and concluded in September 2023, was a long but worth it experience. I though I would get braces slapped on straight away but instead I find out I had a 10 mm overbite. The goal was to reduce it as much as possible. Initially, they provided me with twin blocks, this lasted for several months before I could transition to braces. The process was undoubtedly challenging, and I learned that consistency was key to achieving the desired results. Over the course of almost two years, the progress was gradual but remarkable. My overbite has significantly improved, and I’ve diligently worn my retainers since completing the treatment. I want to express my gratitude to the staff who supported me throughout this lengthy journey. Their expertise, patience, and dedication were vital in transforming my smile, and I couldn’t be happier with the result. Thank you!

They are extremely professional and know how to deal with young children aswell. They make a very light and comfortable atmosphere and get rid of any worries you may have, especially if its your first braces appointment and your nervous. Definitely, you are in safe hands

Fantastic experience: They did a wonderful job! I was sceptical when I was told to use a twin block before my braces, but the extra time was worth it. Listening to the orthodontist was one of the best things I have done in terms of what it did for my jaw and my teeth. It wasn’t an easy few years, but now (after 33 appointments!) I’m happy to smile and am no longer self conscious of it.

Fantastic experience: I was referred to Dr Samir Moghanchiover over a decade ago and have never looked back! . As soon as I’ve met Sam I knew I was in very safe hands . I’d been to see several other orthodontists previously, but none of them had his knowledge or experience. Sam is extremely knowledgeable but also puts you at ease, very personable. I saw him recently to do a little more work on my teeth. This orthodontist dentist in my opinion is the very best you’ll find. Sam has loads of experience and I always refer friends and family to him, knowing that they will be in safe expert hands. .

Negative experience: I took down my old review after feeling bad but I have decided that the right thing to do is to help others by keeping it up. Trust the 1 star reviews they’re here for a reason. Most people from Lambeth and surrounding areas in south come to this dentist and being born and raised here I hear the same stories about this place over and over again. I know many many people who feel the same way about the dentist in charge and these one star reviews are all very accurate. I came to this dentist in my teens last appointment was when I was 16, i’m now 23 and them not treating me properly back then has now ruined my jaw and teeth. I’ve been told by Harley street that I should have had double jaw surgery or some teeth removed way back then and he was shocked that they did not do this, he even said that this dentist should not be practising because of what they did to me. I now have daily jaw pain and locking which is going to cost me £20,000 to fix. The issues I have everyday with my jaw could have been avoided had the dentist did his job properly back in 2014, this has been confirmed by the Harley street dental practice. What they do at this practice is speed through cases instead of taking their time and doing things properly, they do this so that they can earn more from the nhs. It’s better to only have 10 cases a year and have them perfect than 10,000 badly treated people. It’s a numbers game to them, they don’t care to fully help people or give a beautiful smile they only need to hit certain medical targets and then they’re on to the next, hence why the staff at this practice are so rude all these years and they all still have the worst attitude ever. My cousins dentist in Croydon worked on her teeth for 3-4 years until her bite was fixed she had teeth removed too all on the nhs (as it should be because we pay our taxes!) this guy only helps people 16 months max. This is why everyone goes to turkey for dental work, the u.k. is full of racist, undereducated, crooked practises like this one and nobody can be bothered to deal with it anymore.
