Fantastic experience: After being on long waiting lists for other dentists, I drive past Ocean Drive Dental Care, so decided to give them a call. I registered and was accepted, so made an appointment. I attended yesterday and was met by a very nice lady who helped me fill out some forms. I have a complicated medical/dental history but she was very patient. I then saw the dentist and dental nurse who were very welcoming and under went an examination. I had no problems thankfully, but was advised to see the hygienist, and a panoramic X-ray, so a friendly receptionist made me the appointments. The surgery was very clean and had all the latest technology, and even a picture on the ceiling to look at whilst in the dentist’s chair, which I found quite amusing. They have NHS patients as well as Private, so I would definitely recommend them!

Positive experience: Great team. However a few improvements could be made. Firstly as someone with mobility issues. The arms on the dental chair should be there permanently. In my previous visit( 12 months ago) they were gone but in this one they had returned (2 days ago). Secondly since appointments are now annual and not 6 monthly. Communication should be improved. I got a text 48hrs before my appointment perhaps a reminder could be sent 6 months beforehand

Fantastic experience: I have just registered as a new patient and I had a great experience with the receptionist and Hamsa, the dentist. She asked me about my issues and chatted through some options for helping them. She was very good about explaining what she was doing and what my options were. I did have to wait a few months for an initial appointment but that is norm for any NHS dentist now.

Positive experience: The service here has certainly diminished compared to a few years ago. It feels like less attention on an individual basis and more a volume business - get the customer in and out as soon as possible. The checkups now reduced to 12 months - they say they have to do this because of NHS rules, but actually the rules are that it is up to the dentist to decide to decide what is best for you. Here the receptionist tells you it can’t be less than 12 months. All my life (over 60 now) I’ve been told that it’s important to have a 6 monthly checkup. The checkups are over really quickly, and a clean/descale appointment is also less thorough than it used to be.

Negative experience: I have been going to this practice for a few years and overall have had a pleasant experience, however, the dentist left and this experience wasn't as positive. When I walked in there were toddlers in the reception area and within one of the offices with a door open, it didn't feel like a clean professional space but a day care. The appointment was late even though no one seemed to leave in the time I was waiting. The check up felt very generic and rushed like they didn't care at all. I will be looking for a new dentists.

Negative experience: When calling for an appointment your are met with a receptionist that has clearly lost her will to live a few centuries ago. The same sheer enthusiasm and motivation that can be found at a funeral. You never get a check up appointment. You need to book one 6months in advance which will be cancelled because the dentist is on holidays. Then you need to rebook and there won't be new appointments until 6months later, which will also be cancelled because the dentist is on holidays. Rinse and repeat, quite literally. The dentist is nice but last time I went for an emergency appointment I was told I needed a root canal or the tooth needed to be pulled. Got a second opinion and well, nothing of the matter had to be done. Lastly, the whole dentist office, reception and rooms, are run down with a slight charme of once upon a time...many times ago.

Negative experience: Takes months to get an appointment. The dentist then spends about 60 seconds (NHS patients) for an entire dental exam. This has happened on three separate occasions - two for myself while pregnant and one for my two year old son at his first ever dental appointment. Seems very rushed and not very thorough, like they’re leaving time and availability for private patients. My partner also attended this dentist (he has since switched to a different practice after this experience) with a painful tooth infection. The dentist was very brief and insisted nothing was wrong. My partner then went to a different dentist who said the infection was awful and required immediate antibiotics. We will be looking elsewhere for NHS dentists as this one seems to either only prioritise private patients or isn’t overly concerned about the oral health of any of their patients. *edit: since moving to a new dentist, I was referred immediately to a hygienist since I’ve had two babies in the last three years. They were shocked my previous dentist (Ocean Drive) never referred me for this as apparently it’s a priority for pregnant or postpartum women. Basically they just want your money and aren’t interested if you’re NHS!

Fantastic experience: Check up with young dentist Hamsa. Very impressed, courteous and friendly. I am really quite deaf but she was really patient and listened to me just fine.

Negative experience: My last check up was in Jan 2024, and I was given another appointment for December 2024 which was already a long wait to get another check up. Especially when they knew I needed to get fillings done. After waiting nearly the full year for this appointment, they cancelled it 5 working days before it and rescheduled it to March 2025. Then they cancelled it again 5 days before, and now have scheduled it to April. Funny thing is, they know I turn 26 at the end of March so will need to pay for any treatments now. Currently looking to move to a different dentist.

Over booking appointments is a joke you know how many people you can see at any giving time if people are late don't accept them and rebook their appointments there is no reason for other people to be late this is unacceptable when paying for your services make your mind up and deal with who you have Infront of you forget the late comers make them wait it's not hard to schedule properly and it looks like this is an on going issue so address it or stop

Fantastic experience: I am very happy with the service provided by Doctor Yehya who has made me feel at ease, is very professional and a perfectionist like myself who has your best interests at heart and provides an excellent service and now I actually look forward to going to the dentist when I had a fear of going to the dentist. Nurse Cybil is very understanding and really good at helping you if you are nervous and feeling anxious, she is also very friendly and chatty like Doctor Yehya. I saw the hygienist last week Kirtsy again very happy to have been seen by her, she was very nice and patient and does a very good job indeed. I have been to both NHS which is limited and provide limited service no fault to the dental practitioner as that is what is offered by the NHS and I have also used the Private service where they are very good and have appointments available where on the NHS they do not as they have such a back log, saying that I do recommend them. I highly recommend Doctor Yehya. Don't get me wrong not all are as professional as doctor Yehya or as friendly as Cybil. But when are they all in any company. You just have to trial and error till you find one who fits with what you need. I will keep updating my review as my dental procedures continue.

Fantastic experience: I was recommended this dental practice by a friend having tried a couple of other places in Edinburgh. Very friendly practice which is good for someone who is nervous about going to the dentist. Also transparent about costs which is important.

Negative experience: This dental surgery is a farce. They are not fit for purpose and by continuing are doing more harm to patients than good. They will make you wait months between appointments just to cancel them and reschedule them for up to 2 months later. I have waited so long between appointments teeth that where an easy fix if i was seen within days are just getting worse to the point the only choice is extraction. . I have been moved through 4 diffrent dentists with them in 2 years. They keep leaving and hiring new ones. Unless you have more money than sense and are paying privately where you will be seen within days and in their fancy seperate dental spa nearby, avoid like the plague.

Negative experience: The receptionist needs some training about human to human relations, she was very grumpy and unprofessional. I went to the practice one week ago. I only needed a little help because one of my teeth was too high, and it was hurting my other tooth. Dentist completely refused to help me because the job was done by another dentist and he would not put his hand on it. It makes no sense to me why not, it's a 30 second job for him. I also had one bleeding gum, no advice or treatment was advised to me - instead the dentist referred me to a specialist(of course the one next door). I even booked the appointment that would be in 4 weeks time. I ended up cancelling it, In fact I treated myself(and I don't have any problems anymore). I have no intention whatsoever of going back to this practice. They used to be good but not anymore.

Negative experience: Dental exam was fine. Front of house needs training on customer service. I arrived early as I had been asked by phone to fill in forms for my children. I was told to take a seat by someone I presume was staff (no uniform or badge). When dentist called my child I had not been given forms to fill in and when I asked for these I was told that I should have come early as they’d instructed! . It’s a small reception area so the receptionist should have seen me and the other staff member should have advised the receptionist that we’d arrived.

Negative experience: Went here back in February 2022 and was apparently referred to the dental hospital to have my wisdom teeth extracted. After several months of waiting I contacted the practice who assured me I had been referred and just to be patient as the waiting list is very long. Today after 17months waiting I contacted the practice again who this time gave me the number to help find where I am on the dental list. After speaking with the dental hospital they assured me I had not been referred at all by this practice. After speaking with the girl on the phone she said ohh well your dentist has retired so we will have to get you back in to do examination so I can be referred which essential puts me right back to the start of the waiting list. Shocking especially after assuring me more than once that I was on the list. Would not recommend this dentist.

The dentist used to be good but she’s made a right mess of my dental treatment recently and was 1 minute late for an appointment and told u need to come back in 7 weeks. Negative experience: They cancelled my partner's appointment six months ago asking for us to show patience and understanding and so we did. Today my partner after six months he went for his appointment being 10' late as he is a new dad and sleepless and they shut the door on his face with the baddest behaviour. I am sure if we were private patients we wouldn't be having such problems... They must be ashamed of their shelves..
