Fantastic experience: It is a great pleasure to present a glowing review for The Smile Clinic: I was among probably the most fearful patients to be accepted by the Clinic for a full set of dentures. I had avoided dentists for over 40 years - such was my fear, but I needed teeth extracted before the new ones could be made. imagine how fearful I was - I had never experienced an injection even! But - having been given my new dentures today, I can honestly say that the whole experience was as smooth and pain free as possible. I honestly felt no pain and little discomfort through the whole process. For what it's worth, I give my whole hearted recommendation for The Smile Clinic. I am impressed and to be honest - most grateful.

My dentist is Dr Diabi, usually accompanied by Madison. They are both very kind and patient, and always greet me with lovely warm smiles. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the Smile Clinic, and specifically Dr Diabi, to anyone looking for a great dentist.

Fantastic experience: After bad experience at a dentist when I was 15 I have spent my entire adult life avoiding the dentist. After an infection on a broken tooth I joined up and after explaining my phobia of all things needles and dentists I was put at ease by the dentist as he walked me through the list of things I needed. 3 trips to the hygienist 4 extractions And 2 fillings. Today was my final session and I'm booked in for my check up in 6 months. I wouldn't say my fear of the dentist is gone... But I'm definitely in the best hands

Positive experience: I'm an NHS patient here and I'm really happy with my dentist Dr. Mafi. He takes time to listen and he explains procedures clearly and is quite gentle, even with difficult treatments like having an old filling drilled out! My only criticism is the appointments never run on time, I waited 40mins for my appointment today, which is difficult when you work full time and have to overpay on car parking. Overall, I'm pleased and feel fortunate to have found a good NHS dentist as I'm unable to afford private rates. 4 stars mainly because of the appointment delays, everything else I've been really happy with.

Fantastic experience: Dr. Shah is an absolute star. My teeth were absolutely awful before - needed a root canal and 9 fillings. He's managed to work some absolute sorcery to make them amazing again! Positive experience: Millie and Serina were bright, gentle, and polite as they performed my treatment. The appointment started about 20 minutes later than it should have, hence the missing star.

Negative experience: I attended today. I was taken aback by how shockingly rude the reception staff were. I rarely leave reviews let alone bad ones but this was another level. I walked in and it was empty, one woman was on the phone and therefore seemingly busy, the other? She failed to even acknowledge my existence, to the point it was horribly unsettling. When I eventually asked if this is reception, she looked at me like dirt, was abrupt and told me to wait until she’d finished what she was doing. I sat. A man walked in, was immediately greeted. By the woman on the phone! I suffer huge anxiety about the dentist. I’d felt panicky on my walk there. The customer service (or lack thereof) exacerbated that. I waited for 30 minutes beyond my expected appointment. The dentist himself was nice enough but still finishing notes from the prior patient with his assistant. I need further treatment and was forced to pay privately, I now will request my notes and go elsewhere. It was shocking. Avoid.

Negative experience: I have had 2 bad experiences with dentists at both of the clinics in Colchester. I actually had a dentist shout at one of his nurse staff whilst I was sat in his chair. I have eventually managed to find an alternative.

Fantastic experience: Very calm and professional service throughout. I had a crown and filling over 2 appointments, great communication and care and responsive to how I was feeling, including additional anaesthetic when needed. I would recommend.

Negative experience: Warning to other NHS patients registered here: ensure you are managing your appointments yourself. Contacted them as I hadn't heard anything and it's normally this time of year I have a check up. Was told I've been removed from the practice because I haven't been there in 18months. My last appointment was under 24months. I echo the other reviews on here regarding differences of treatment of NHS vs private patients. Whilst the hygienist was excellent, she didn't have a nurse/additional help. So I had to hold the suction tool and others.

Fantastic experience: I am usually quite anxious when visiting the dentist, but this clinic has been outstanding in making me feel comfortable. I first had a cleaning session with the hygienist, and she was incredibly kind and understanding. She took the time to explain each step and made sure I was ok throughout the entire process. Today, I had an emergency appointment with the dentist, and he was just as great. He listened to my concerns, and made sure I felt heard and supported. On both occasions, I had being looked after by Jodie, the dental nurse. She was exceptionally caring and made me feel so comfortable, even remembering me from my first visit. Her attention truly helped me relax, and I can't thank her enough for her kindness. Overall, I had a wonderful experience and am deeply grateful to the whole team for their care

Fantastic experience: I had come back to the practice to have some fillings done and was at first welcomed into the treatment room by the lovely Ruby, who then introduced me to Sarina who would be carrying out the treatment on my teeth. I cannot express how lovely both of these ladies were and how calm they made me feel. Sarina asked if I had any concerns and when mentioning that the dentist generally makes me anxious, they made adjustments to the room to make me feel at ease and were also checking in with me every few minutes, in case I needed a break etc. I had originally had two appointments scheduled to break up the treatment time, being an anxious person and Sarina made me feel so relaxed that I ended up having all of my treatment done there and then, in the one appointment. I cannot thank both Sarina & Ruby enough.

Negative experience: I am extremely disappointed with Smiles Clinic in Colchester. Every time I try to book an appointment, they claim they have none available. I’ve been told to call at 8:30 AM for emergency slots, but every time I call at that exact time between 8.30-8.45 am, but they tell me all the emergency appointments are already gone. This has happened five times over the last two months, despite me explaining that I’m in pain. The lack of organization and care for patients in need is unacceptable. I expected better from a clinic that’s supposed to prioritize health and well-being. I won’t be recommending them to anyone. Let me know if you’d like to tweak it further!

Negative experience: Called to enquire about dental implants, person I spoke to covered the phone to ask someone, I heard an abrupt "two and a half grand" She then informed me it would be from "two and a half grand" I guess the two syllable word "Thousand" was a but tricky to master. Negative experience: Very disappointed! I wish I could of given this place negative stars... My partner and I had to travel 66 miles to this dentist so we could be seen as NHS patients. Everyone knows how hard it is to find a dentist who is taking on NHS patients... We paid for our new patient appointment in Jan 24 and got seen on the 16th October, which is fine, I understand how difficult it is to get an appointment. Dhruv Shah was the dentist... We arrived at our appointment and both were bursting for a wee as we'd been in the car for over 2 hours to get to the appointment and the dentist came out and said you can come in now. I said sorry we just need to use the toilet first, he looked right at us and said 'do you have too' I felt pressured so I went in to the room with the dentist and my partner went to the toilet as he's type 2 diabetic and struggles to hold it for too long. I told the dentist I'm concerned about my gum disease that I've had for over 20 years, he said he didn't need to do an new patient X-Ray as he didn't deem it as needed. I had an emergency dentist appointment to treat an abbess on my front tooth a few months before and that dentist told me my jaw bone was at less that 10% left on the front tooth and that without further help from a dentist I would loose it. This dentist here said they never remove healthy teeth. Well if we just let it fall out then I'll loose my job but he didn't care. I even asked the receptionist why the dentist refused to do new patient x-ray and she just said that's all up to him, now pay please. I also have a wisdom tooth that is mostly gone and just a black hole in my jar, it's causes regular pain and I have to salt rinse to keep it at by, this dentist told me he'd take it out in April 2025. I asked why not sooner and he just said we can do it sooner if you go private with us. My partner was told he needed 3 teeth removing and 2 fillings, without an x-ray, he was also told the work would be done in April unless we go private with them. After we were finished which honestly was less than 3 minutes each, as the dentist wouldn't even do a scale and polish which should be included in the appointment we paid for. We were talking to the receptionist about not being X-rayed etc .I heard the dentist and the nurse call for a private patient and the way they spoke changed, they were very friendly and kind and didn't rush her at all. Shameful, we shouldn't be treated that way because we were NHS patients. I've chosen to not have a dentist over this place...

Fantastic experience: I'm an extremely nervous patient and just had my wisdom tooth out under local anesthetic of which I was petrified about!! They were patient and reassuring the whole time, plus it didn't hurt at all!!! Would 100% reccomend!

Fantastic experience: This is my usual dental clinic and I was there as private patient I met Dr Daibi and he was so kind to me this Doctor took his time to explained everything to me about the pain on my wisdom teeth. After few weeks the pain was unbearable and I decided to go for my wisdom teeth extraction but unfortunately Dr Diabi was on holiday and the receptionist said I have to wait for 3weeks until Dr Diabi resume back I explained how painful I was but the receptionist insisted that I will have to wait then I called again next working day and I was so lucky with another receptionist and was given emergency appointment on same day. I met Dr Ash who was a nice doctor as well as Dr Daibi and confirmed that I’ve infection on my tooth and won’t be able to the extraction on that day and prescribed antibiotics to take for 5days but he said if I’m still having the pain 2 days after taken the antibiotics I should come back to him and Dr Ash said he will do the extraction. So it’s been 3days now and still in pain, I went to the clinic 30/08/24 and I must say a very big thank you to Dr Ash, he did a very well job the extraction was smooth and done within just seconds with no pain at all. Thank you so very much again Dr Ash for attending to me when Dr Diabi wasn't available and thank you to Dr Diabi as well. I forgot to asked for the name of the nurse with Dr Ash please I'm saying thank you to her. If you are going for any treatment in smile dental clinic in Colchester town, please ask for Dr Diabi or Dr Ash. The only downside of the clinic is that the receptionists needs some improvements.

Fantastic experience: Visited the smile clinic today due to having servere tooth ache unbearable pain I called them at 830am they immediately gave me a appointment for 1130 I arrived and doctor diabi and his assistant attended to my teeth he explained everything and carried out a tooth removal at my request as the tooth was to far gone from the injection to removing the tooth I had no pain I cannot recommend these guys enough brilliant service from start to finish , I would like to thank the hole team for a first class service

Negative experience: I debated whether to write this review or not but I am so disappointed with my experience today that I feel I should. I visited this dentist for a private check up as the website didn’t offer me an NHS appointment option and in this very short appointment (2 minutes max, with little empathy or ‘soft skills’ on display) I was advised I needed a wisdom tooth removed. This was not unexpected. Last year, another practitioner here had provided a great service on NHS banding but I was advised this route was not available. Despite the brusque manner of Dr Shah in the appointment increasing my nerves for the procedure, I decided to pay for the private extraction as he explained waiting for an NHS appointment would cause irreversible bone damage. I love our NHS and the professionals that work for them, but this tooth has caused considerable pain and I’m fortunate enough to be able to manage the cost with some budgeting. However, with the payment of £225 in total, I’d expected better service. I advised I’m an anxious patient but was left waiting without explanation, and when I questioned this 15 minutes after my appointment time I was told that they were running behind. In the state I was, I didn’t question this but I would expect a private practice to manage their books better as it’s not a cheap service. My advice would be to improve this service and manage patients with concerns about attending that when greeting a customer/patient any delays are outlined. This is good practice for exercising basic manners and allows people to remain as calm as possible with less fear of the unexpected. When I entered the appointment space I explained I was anxious and that the wait hadn’t helped this anxiety. Dr Shah very abruptly told me the wait wouldn’t change the fact my tooth was coming out. Again, I explained I was anxious and was told that it didn’t change the outcome; I explained that this is not how anxiety works, but tried not to continue the conversation as I was already getting towards a panic state. Throughout the procedure, which was performed well, I could not control my breathing and was sobbing but the demeanour of the practitioners was very cold. I know they are busy but my expectations of any medical professional - let alone private service - is a level of empathy and reassurance. By the time the tooth was removed I just wanted to leave quickly and after hearing after care I expressed to Dr Shah that I think the above (lateness, tone etc) had added to my concerns and again the manner of response was dismissive and curt. I had received no pre-appointment advice but the post-care run through was concise and minimal but satisfactory. I had not eaten before the appointment as I was fearful of feeling sick and the dentist attributed my nerves to this; I know myself, and would have been anxious regardless, and the reception I received exacerbated this. I find myself disappointed as previously I’ve had good service here as an NHS patient. My advice if you were to choose this practice for private health would be to ask specifically for a practitioner with a specialism in nervous patients, as Dr Shah would not be my recommendation if you are in any way prone to anxiety or nerves.

Fantastic experience: It's was a long appointment with multiple fillings. Mr David and his assistant were very attentive when l got a little panicky. They gave me time for me to relax and cope with it the rest of what was needed. I have always felt in good hands when l come for my appointments. Greatful and many thanks.

Negative experience: The last 4 appointments I have booked for my daughter have been cancelled at short notice. 3 of them I received a text stating 'appointment has been cancelled due to the dentist not being here'.

Fantastic experience: I am an extremely anxious patient and explained this to Mr Diabi at my first appointment. He listened patiently and then reassured me. My teeth were awful, I hadn’t seen a dentist in some years, mainly due to the pandemic and I was petrified. I had to have 3 appointments and on the final one had to have extractions. Mr Diabi, and his dental nurse Ruby were amazing with me. They both continually reassured me and kept checking I was alright. Both were so kind, calm, understanding and reassuring and I can’t thank them enough. My smile has been restored and my teeth look amazing! I live nearly 3 hours away from the practice and don’t drive, so had to take 3 trains to get there, but this was the only NHS one that would see me. If I was offered a local practice now I would refuse it and continue going to see Mr Diabi. The journey and long day was worth it. Thank you all so much.

Fantastic experience: Brilliant! Like most people, you build up a fear of having a wisdom tooth out. Dr Nour Diabi and Madi, his nurse, assured me that I would not feel any pain apart from a prick when the needle for the anaesthetic went in. It was, as they said it would be, totally painless. Over the many years I have been seeing dentists, this has been by far the best experience and I have no hesitation in recommending Dr Nour Diabi and Madi.

Fantastic experience: I was always very self conscious of the dentist and the potential for feeling pain whilst having teeth extracted, spanning from an incident from a previous dental practice many years ago. Dr Shah has squashed those fears. I had a simple and complex extraction today and I didn’t feel a thing! Even the injections to numb the area were barely felt. His planning and explanation of the process, treatment and aftercare were very reassuring and the general staff at the smile clinic were comforting, professional and friendly! I can’t fault the practice and look forward to being a long term client there.

Fantastic experience: I've purposely gone out of my way to write this purely because of how lovely and tentative the staff are. My treatment plan was embarrassingly large needing about 5 fillings and a root canal treatment costing in excess of £1600 as I opted for private care as I have insurance. Throughout the RCT Ashkan and the two dental nurses I've had were all so caring, chatty and treated you like a normal human being. To me just being asked if you are ok or would you like a rest every 10 minutes or so just shows they care. So far all I've had done is the RCT and it's been successful and painless so all the horror stories about the treatment is totally dependent on the dentist you have. (3 x Lidocaines later) What sets this out from other dentists is the ability to book your own checkups and hygienist appointments via the online app, if you have telephone anxiety you can simply WhatsApp the team instead which I have done and stops you forgetting what they have said. I would recommend this practice to any nervous, anxious or regular patients in a heartbeat!

Fantastic experience: Amazing service, My son had his front tooth broken during a hockey game at school and after spending a good 45 minutes on nhs 111 to be told we’ll have a callback in 12 hours, we contacted our dentist at the smile clinic who offered to squeeze him in and stayed behind to fix his tooth. He has done a fantastic job. We are forever grateful and highly recommend them as the best Dentist in town

Negative experience: Ridiculous policy of not accepting patient if we missed a registration appointment. I wanted to reschedule to another date but they said because I missed the appointment, they won't accept me anymore. This is unempathetic to patients as there could be myriad of reasons why people missed their appointments such as being sick or hospitalized and can't always call beforehand in advance to reschedule. Having such policy of not accepting patient because of missed appointment is inhumane, unempathetic, and ridiculous, especially after I've waited 6 months to get an appointment at this clinic.

Fantastic experience: Just got my wisdom tooth extracted! And it was a positive experience! I wanted to say thank you then and there after but it would have been a bit garbled. I’ve been putting this off for maybe over a year because I was terrified, but I needn’t have been as they did a great job. I had Dr Dhruv, who I would recommend as he was reassuring and kind. He listened to my concerns before the extraction and gave me some tips that made the whole experience 100% more bearable. He extracted my tooth surprisingly very quickly and cleanly and I felt NOTHING, which is amazing. I’m sorry that I didn’t get the nurse’s name for the review, but she was also brilliant, kind and very calming. Both seemed very knowledgeable and professional. To give you a ref on how quick/efficient it all was, my appointment was at 18:35, but I got in early at about 18:30, and I was out of the door at 18:40. Also, thank you for the face mask to wear on the way home. I hadn’t considered this, and I very much appreciate the extra thought! All staff here all seem pretty nice, I can see why they get so many good reviews.

Fantastic experience: These two were excellent! First time having a filling. Small amount of nerves but felt hardly anything. The nurse was chatty and engaging allowing those that may feel anxious something to focus on if they need to. Dentist just as lovely. They make a great team

Negative experience: Awful experience. I have been waiting for the apt for 1 year, and when i finally got it, the way that the dentist spoke with me was unbelievable. No professionalism at all. No empathy from him. No explanation of the plan, only being told, " we will do this and that " no reason why or how. I'm really disappointed.

Fantastic experience: I'm a nervous patient and my teeth have suffered greatly due to my fear.yesterday had teeth and roots removed and had a pain-free experience. Omar the dentist and his assistant put me at ease and he's like a magician. With Pain free injections I did not feel a thing Great practise would highly recommend I'm no longer afraid to have treatment and they're just amazing all round good experience

Negative experience: After waiting over 1 year for myself being disabled my partner being pregnant and 2 children taking them off school for an appointment. Just because I called to state I would be 5 minutes late they wouldn't see us. I have never had such a rubbish situation and nhs are bad as It is. Stay away from these people

Negative experience: Been here for 3 years but have gone down hill. Fillings they put in fall out after half hour of putting thm in . The waiting list for a appointment is really bad . I am going to change dentist .

Fantastic experience: My partner and I went for the first visit, the receptionists were really nice and welcoming and our dentist Drew went extra miles to explain what he checked and if anything was wrong. We are really happy with our experience
