Cheltenham House Dental Practice

Fantastic experience: Had to go in for an emergency appointment, due to trauma my tooth broke. The dentist and other staff were really friendly (although the receptionist seemed really bored and like she was reading from a script). I was so unbelievably happy that the dentist was able to fix my tooth back together. I can smile again

Negative experience: This place used to be great a few years ago. But then they kicked out many nhs patients without warning. It ended up costing me a tooth. Terrible place.

Fantastic experience: Very helpful friendly staff who helped me down the stairs with my daughter in the pram and also cuddled her when she got upset and I couldn’t get to her.

Positive experience: My treatment went well and I was happy with the care provided. The only thing I found a little unsettling was that a dental nurse kept coming in and out of the room during the procedure. It made it harder to feel fully relaxed. I think the experience would be even better if the environment could remain calm and uninterrupted throughout treatment.

I was very nervous and Hannah and her nurses looked after me brilliantly, with compassion and lots of reassurance… and managed to complete the treatment there and then!! Thank you so much. NM

Negative experience: As most other reviews say, receptionist is particularly condescending and unfriendly. Everything felt rushed and didn’t really solve anything.

Fantastic experience: I walked in super worried as had bad experiences in the past. Dr Stefan Galatanu was patient, caring and gentle. Talked me though everything he was doing. Explained my options and helped me resolve my ongoing tooth issues. His assistant I didn't catch her name was super friendly and helped to put me at ease. The staff all seem to really get on well there which is nice to see.

Positive experience: Saw Hannah - very pleasant experience and we discussed the best option for the problem.

Negative experience: I attended this surgery as an emergency patient. Reception staff spoke to emergency patients very differently to the private patients. I felt judged and was spoken to dismissively. After waiting for my appointment, I felt it was very rushed and I did not fully understand the outcome. I had to ask the dental nurse to explain in the reception area. She was very kind and took the time to speak to me fairly.

Fantastic experience: Private patient, but previously NHS, same dentist. Much more friendly and professional experience, have as much input as you like as a customer, ample time to discuss overall dental health. Costs about twice that of NHS contribution, but well worth paying for the care as fewer return appointments to fix rushed jobs.

Negative experience: Rude staff on the front desk every time I have gone in. Told I’m due am appointment after 2 years on their “waiting list” with a generic text, only to find out the only option is now private and no such NHS waiting list exists. Had I known this I would have gone elsewhere.

Fantastic experience: This was the first time my mother has been to this practice mostly due to easy access. We were delighted with the whole experience with both dental and hygienist teams being so kind and patient.

Fantastic experience: Previously I have had a problem with having to have a tooth filled 5 times each time shortlived until it was taken out and a new tooth added to my top plate. This was also not good. The new tooth fell off 3 times and I paid independently to get stuck back on !! Not just that tho, I couldn't wear it for long as it made my mouth sore !!! So with trepidation I went for a "Check up". Where I was told by a new dentist, that the previous guy when taking the tooth out had left root behind & its infected !!! ..... Oh and he said he had told me.......Porky pies. To be fair, the new dentist is great, but I now have to pay a lot of money to get the root removed or wait 2 years for an NHS dentist to do it. Obviously no contest, but annoyed with the previous guy whose incompetence is going to cost me £400++. Oh well c'est la vie !!! Update march 2025 Well I've had all the impressions done and visited for a fitting of my " new plate" ...... doesn't fit properly so more impressions taken today. Back in 10 days for another fitting.......

The Dentist Dr Rummen inserted the numbing injection into my gum without me feeling its entry, 'fantastic'as I do not like needles. Negative experience: Made appointment in January for a broken tooth and the dentist was very kind and filled it that day which was great. I asked the price before hand explaining it was a struggle financially, but I'd have to get it sorted. She told me it was £180. Afterwards the receptionist gave me the bill and charged £47 on top of the £180 for a 'check up'. I said I was on the dental plan specifically for the free check ups, and that I'd only just had one in June, 6 months earlier, so didn't need one. She became less friendly, said absolutely nothing apart from she'd have to speak to the dentist. She came out saying the dentist gave me a check up for my benefit in case there were other problems. But I said that I hadn't asked for a check up, and didn't need one - that my next one is due in 6 months and I only want a yearly check up. I said my appointment was for one broken tooth. She said absolutely nothing but looked annoyed and said she'd message the dentist again. It was blatantly obvious that this brief check up was a way of getting more money out of the visit. I asked if I'm supposed to say I don't want a check up before I go in, to avoid being charged and she just shrugged. I waited whilst she was silent and then she begrudgingly said 'ok, we'll take it off'. No apology, which should have unequivocally been given, and no other words came from her mouth. I wish staff would understand that not everyone has financial means to just accept add ons that aren't requested. It's also sad that these interactions have to take place in front of other people waiting, as it is humiliating to talk about affordability in front of other patients. Costs need to be more transparent, where dentists are clear about what will be charged before hand. It's almost as if talking about money is distasteful to them. The whole thing made it an upsetting experience.

Fantastic experience: Attended as an emergency appointment! Seen on time, staff was great. The Dr we have seen was really patient and explained everything to us. Wish they were taking permanent patients on as I wouldn't mind travelling if that is the care they provide!

Fantastic experience: I've been a patient here for a number of years and happy to recommend. Always friendly and efficient service. I see Danielle the hygienist every five or six months and she is brilliant. Not at all painful land my teeth feel and look much better after every visit. Every dentist I've seen has been professional, friendly and consistent with their comments and advice for me, and they are the main things you want as a patient after all. I'm quite a nervous dental patient and if I've been managing to visit regularly for years, seeing a number of different dentists and a hygienist, then they must be doing something right. Update for 2025: I saw Lauren the hygienist today for the first time and as usual for this practice, excellent! Shame about the big price increase for this year (around 10%) but it won't stop me coming here as always been happy, never had any issues.

Fantastic experience: Absolutely amazing dental practice the lovely Marie was so helpful and managed to get me in with an emergency as I had really bad tooth ache. What can I say about Sefen fantastic dentist wouldnt go anywhere else. Highly recommend

Fantastic experience: Had Root canal done, felt no pain and the procedure was carried out by Rahul Faujdar. As well as the Root canal I had 3 teeth extraction done and there was no pain during any of the procedures. A top dentist. All the treatments I had at this practise have been carried out to the highest standards. Rahul Faujdar is an excellent dentist and has my thanks for what he done to help me
