Negative experience: Arrived at the dentist for my annual check-up to find that they moved premises. I had had no communication informing me of this, and so had no way of getting to the new premises in time for the appointment. Despite paying privately with a practice plan, I was informed that I wouldn't be able to have another check-up for another year. Appalling service and a complete waste of money - I cannot recommend.

We are sorry to receive your review and comments. Letters, emails and SMS messages were sent to all patients regarding the moving of the practice in June and then again in September 2025, we can see that your choice of correspondence was email, it could be that this has dropped into your junk mail.
In relation to your examination dependant upon what plan you are on, depends on how many examinations are required per year, if you would like to discuss this please call the practice and they will be able to advise of your recall dates.

Negative experience: First of all immaculate facilities completely spotless. Paid £80 for a check up and must have been in there no longer than ten minutes? Dentist seemed very uninterested, offered no advice and seemed prompt to get me away. I required some extra fillings and asked about payment options she seemed to shrug as if it wasn’t her problem. Won’t be returning.

Fantastic experience: I am terrified of the dentist as I have never had a good experience but I had an appointment with Athena who was honestly brilliant. She listened to my fears, she was patient and let me lead the appointment in terms of needing more pain relief etc. I managed to get my 2 broken teeth removed without any real stress which has amazed me. Negative experience: We are ( now were ) registered as NHS patients in the Durham city branch. We only need check ups and have been waiting for a reminder to make appointments. We were in Durham and decided to call in, only to find it closed and moved to an industrial estate. We had no communication from the staff saying this so drove to their new place and asked to make appointments. The receptionist looked for our records and said we have been archived as we didn't show up for a check up!!! We explained we had no e- mail/ text sent but they refused to have us back. Would not recommend this practice, staff have no idea about keeping their patients informed of anything.

Fantastic experience: I had an emergency appointment with Santa Makarenkova and she was amazing as was her assistant! I am an incredibly nervous patient due to bad past experiences and I cannot rate her enough. She knew exactly what to do with what I had previously been told was a difficult removal. I will be paying privately to keep her as my dentist from now on.

Fantastic experience: I attended an initial appointment with Deepthi Priya Penikonda and discussed any issues I have. I explained I was unhappy with the appearance of my bridge and that I felt like I smiled differently to hide my teeth and covered my mouth when I talk. I had a thorough check up and X rays taken and a discussion on how they could make the bridge look better and what could be done with the bonding. I have been this evening for the work we discussed and I am over the moon! It now looks amazing and the rest of my teeth look and feel great too. I am so grateful. Negative experience: Would not recommend in an emergency. Needed an emergency appointment, I am autistic, suffer from extreme anxiety, and other mental health conditions. I was crying in pain. The whole appointment the dentist hummed and harred as if I was a neusance and he couldnt be bothered. I ended up with more pain than when i went. Days later I was rushed for another emergency appointment through 111 to a different dental service, turns out the pain was caused by the "my dental" dentist had left me with an exposed root and ignored the abscess that was causing me to be extremely unwell and in so much pain.

Negative experience: BOTCHED my root canal!! 0 stars if I can give. in end of 2022 i went in as an emergency patient and got a root canal done. not long ago i went to multiple dentists and upon many and many Xrays, its apparent that the “pins” to help fill the space was overdone and ended up longer than it should’ve been. this has left me to be told by my current dentist that I’d require a re-root canal treatment and that due to the overdone of the tips, it is causing an infection. I have previously contacted them many many months ago and filed a complaint but not heard back from them AT ALL. absolute zero

Negative experience: I had an NHS appointment scheduled in December 2023. MyDentist contacted me to cancel the appointment saying their NHS dentist had quit and that they would reschedule when they had a new NHS dentist. I have contacted them several times since* and almost a year and a half later they still claim not to have hired a new NHS dentist. This means the claim on their website that they offer NHS dentistry is a lie; they haven't offered these services for more than a year and I don't believe they ever intended to hire a new NHS dentist, instead preferring to offer solely private services to people with no other option. *Most recently a couple of weeks ago.

However, new patient appointments are offered subject to capacity and are limited in number. Regrettably we cannot offer an NHS space to everyone who contacts us each day requiring care. Fantastic experience: My teeth were awful, I'd put up with them for years. I've had fabulous treatment from start to finish and now, after fillings, extractions, dentures and composite bonding, I now have a better smile than I have had for maybe 20 years. I had to go privately as I wasn't registered for NHS treatment, but compared to other dentists I've looked at, these are much more value for money. I will never go anywhere else. Thank you .

Negative experience: Absolutely rip off! Never go back there again! I went for emergency appointment which they charged £100 only to see me!! I had bit pain on my back tooth which and they tried to pulled it out to make sure they get more money out off me! I said No just prescribe me some antibiotics and I’m fine now. Also, they booked me in for hygienic cleaning for fowling week and they said only £56 for hygienic, you have to pay £20 deposit and £36 on your return next week! But when I went back for my appointment and after the cleaning, they charged me another £50 and they said the price has changed since Monday! Absolutely rip off!

Negative experience: Reception quite angry. Had an appointment week prior to my call today and it was suggested by dentist to see if inflammation resolved or return for root canal. Pain returned, called to book suggested treatment, given a wait of 4 weeks. Explained cannot wait that long, and enquired if it NEEDED to be same dentist. Told could be another at the same practice but would have to pay another checkup fee (less than 72 working hours have passed since I paid for my last checkup and I PAID for x-rays) I asked if another dentist could simply review the notes and look at the x-rays. Reception got really quite loud and irate and spoke over me at every opportunity. Dentists are in short supply yes, but it would seem so are manners here

Fantastic experience: I visited my smile dental practice 18/10/23 to have an extraction. James Nolan was the dentist who completed this procedure. I don’t think I’ve ever had a Dentist so professional and gentle (I was shocked when he said the tooth was removed). I would definitely recommend this Dentist as he’s exceptional. Thank you James. Negative experience: If you are looking to waste your money and keep going back to re-do the work just done, then this is the dentist for you! My wife and I tried this when we moved to the area and we needed work doing, I had three small fillings on the front teeth, one came out while flossing, my wife had one filling which fell out, went back and she got charged nearly £200 to replace it. We have since found another private Dentist in Durham and we have to get all the work re-done, I was shown X-Rays of my teeth that showed decay behind the new filling from mydentist , so all three front replaced and my new dentist spent more time on one filling than Dee from mydentist spent on the three. This Dentist is a money making machine and not interested in providing the correct care, we spent £1000 to have it done correctly at another Dentist, my new Dentist words were " I have seen better Dentistry work"

Fantastic experience: I have always been nervous when it comes to dentists, but never in this practice. All I can say is the team are fantastic. I came to the practice for Invisalign and all staff from the dentist David, to treatment coordinator Jill and the receptionists, have been so tentative and informative. The girls at the reception without a doubt everytime I have come in are very warm, friendly and welcoming. You can tell they know their patients well. Alex (receptionist) was also going through invisalign and openly shared her experiences, which helped me to pick treatment. She always welcomes you with a friendly warm smile and nothing ever seems to be too much trouble to anyone that works here. Amazing communication, very professional and friendly team. Great experience and very happy with the final look of my teeth! Thank you David and the team at my dentist

Fantastic experience: I have had to visit the practise today for an emergency appointment resulting in a tooth extraction. After many years of putting off going to the dentist I was presented with a wonderful dentist Dr Deepthi Penukonda who firstly made sure I was comfortable and okay before even talking about any treatment or procedure. Both herself and dental nurse were very professional and warming it certainly made me feel at ease. She has not only helped with the problem today but provided me with options about the future.

Negative experience: I have been a patient at this practice for many years and have watched it gradually go down hill. I have had so many different dentists. The last one farmed me out to another dentist as he was no longer seeing NHS patients I am half way through a procedure the NHS dentist has left and I have been left high and dry. I was told to call back first thing in the morning to get an appointment I was then told I couldn't have one because I wasn't in pain. It's disgusting all they want is to get rid of their NHS patients and go private. I said I would pay to be told I had to pay up front and I would have to pay for the first examination as they didn't know what was wrong with me. Try reading my notes I am half way through a procedure that didn't work twice with your dentists. A shocking way to treat patients.

As you may be aware, we do have several dentist vacancies at your practice and are actively trying to recruit. Unfortunately, recruitment of dentist’s post pandemic is proving extremely difficult. There is a shortage of dentists in the UK which is making attracting dentists to certain areas of the country more difficult and we are experiencing challenges in recruiting to the area. However, we are looking at all options to attract and re-locate dentists to your practice. Please be assured that the vacancies are not through any lack of trying or apathy on our part, purely that recruiting dentists, is proving difficult.
However, whilst we are recruiting, if you experience a dental emergency, e.g. pain, swelling or bleeding then you can still contact the practice and they will triage your symptoms and advise you how obtain emergency assistance until the practice is fully staffed.

Negative experience: Reception is good and friendly. But the skill of dentist is not good. I booked a mouth cleaning. But after cleaning there still some tartar on my teeth

We are very sorry to hear of your dissatisfaction with the services you received from our Practice. A dentist will only do a simple scale and polish during an examination if they feel it is clinically necessary and in some cases a referral to a hygienist may be required following this if the patient has an issue with bleeding gums etc. A hygiene appointment (deep clean) would be booked under private treatment and in general would not be done by a dentist but by a hygienist.
If you require any more information regarding the type of clean that you had at the practice please contact the Practice Manager who will be happy to assist.

Fantastic experience: I have just had 3 crowns replaced by Dee Penukobda at my Dentist in Durham ,I can highly recommend Dee and her nurse they were an excellent team and I am delighted with the result. Fantastic experience: I have received nothing but exceptional care from Dr David Reed, who works at the Durham {my}dentist practice on Framwellgate Bridge. He has provided me dental care on a number of occasions in the past few years, but most recently, on Christmas Eve. I chipped a tooth a matter of days before Christmas, and was experiencing sensitivity and pain. Dr Reed went above and beyond to allow me to have a pain free Christmas with my family. He not only stayed back late on his Christmas Eve to fit my last minute appointment in, but I was also greeted with smiles and Christmas cheer from both him and the reception staff! I truly am thankful for your care and feel so lucky that Durham has such an accessible, pleasant and compassionate dental practice! Keep up the good work!

Fantastic experience: The entire staff are so much better than they used to be; friendly, empathetic and kind even though they were so busy, they did their job faultlessly well both over the phone and in person. Fantastic experience: About a year ago I started straightening of my teeth. I was given a very thorough and well explained information of intended benefits and possible risks before embarking on this treatment. At all times during the treatment I was able to access any additional advice or help if necessary. The staff from receptionist to Dr David Reed were helpful at all times. Negative experience: I have severe social anxiety and I had to take an hour bus to an appointment which I was told I would get a permanent filling and I got nothing, he tapped my tooth and that was it. I'm fuming as I wasted what little money I had to go through here. I am so let down. He told me to go through to Peterlee instead cos he didn't have time, I like 2 minutes from the Peterlee practice so I am furious. If he didn't have time he should of phoned and told me.

Fantastic experience: I have not been to a dentist for 30 years, but when I developed a decaying tooth and ignored it then it got infected and my face was also swollen and painful. Fantastic experience: I was delighted to have a filling replaced by David at the practice earlier this year. The team were very welcoming and operated in a covid secure way, yet still made it a very comfortable experience. David’s nurse Ailish was fantastic at her role too and they worked well together. Fantastic experience: I'm a very anxious patient but I find this practice to be spot on. Yesterday I had a filling replaced and teeth cleaned by David. The whole experience was so calming and painless. David and the dental nurse (Sarah I think) were so nice. Ive been going for about 4 years and am now far less anxious, even in these covid times.

Fantastic experience: I have just finished a course of treatment after suffering a bad fall resulting in knocking out 2 upper front teeth. After being given an emergency same day appointment the lovely Dr Deepthi Penukonda managed to reattach the teeth and consequently fit crowns. The care I have received has been exceptional. My well being has been carefully considered and I have been made to feel in safe hands. Thank you to all the team

Fantastic experience: Excellent care provided by dentist David Reed. Had to have an extraction and have always had issues with anaesthesia not taking full effect, it takes many injections and considerable time to get to the point of being able to carry out any procedure! Have had some awful experiences in the past due to this issue, but David was so kind, gentle and very patient.

Fantastic experience: BRIDGE HOUSE is WELL and TRULY IN BUSINESS Don't let COVID scaremongering (as opposed to official warning) dissuade you from having your regular dental checks. I experienced a most professional and rather pleasant examination. The COVID precautions were thorough but not overwhelming and they did not prevent standard checks and a massive clean. Dental team were utterly professional but kind throughout. Well done, team!

Fantastic experience: Phoned first thing on morning after filling came out .spoke to receptionist who arranged an online consultation with a dentist later that day, it was agreed that I should come in next day New Year's Eve to have emg treatment. Followed all the guidelines in place felt safe and had first class treatment from the dentist and all the staff on duty. Thank you all

Fantastic experience: I’m a very nervous patient and didn’t expect to need a wisdom tooth extraction but the dentist and dental nurse couldn’t have been kinder. There was very little pain and everything was explained . I thought it would be very painful when the numbing wore off but it was fine. I would certainly recommend the practice.

Positive experience: Only been a patient for a couple of yrs before Covid came into play & only had one problem, & that was with one of receptionists who I thought I had checked in with. Unfortunately for some reason she hadn't checked me in online thus I ended up waiting for over an hour. If i hadn't gone up & asked if I'd been forgotten i would probably have still been sitting there now. That was about a year ago. My original dentist has left the practice unfortunately. She was lovely. Since the receptionist problem everything has been smashing, very friendly staff. Thanks guys. Alan.

Positive experience: Been a patient at this surgery for 35 years and always had great service and this continued when my dentist took over. Dee was very good when I had a crown that snapped off and she managed to save it. No problems at all here.

Negative experience: I was told I needed treatment and was asked to return in two weeks after considering my options. I decided to opt for a second opinion and was told My Dentist’s option was an extreme measure and really quite drastic (extraction). I have since joined another surgery and have had no issues after receiving a far more gentle treatment plan. Then to top it off I received a fine from the NHS for claiming I was exempt when in fact I paid for my checkup before I even sat in the Dentist’s chair. I then had to wait 3 weeks for the NHS to investigate and accept my copy of the receipt.

Negative experience: terrible, wouldn't recommend, i came here for emergency treatment after the previous dentist snapped one of my teeth, came here to get it removed and all i got was a load of abuse from the asian dentist talking down to me and making insulting comments because I apparently don't brush my teeth enough even though i have brushed my teeth 3 times a day for the last 20 odd, nor do i smoke smoke or eat excessive sugar products but what ever the case thats my business, she was insulting and , the receptionist there was also rude she looked down at me because i was wearing track suit bottoms and a hoodie so she presumed i never worked and that i don't pay for my treatment which i have always done, shocking service i literally walked out mid appointment and will never ever go here or any other my dentist again. bunch of patronising horrible people...
