Fantastic experience: cleaned my teeth well, very happy
Negative experience: A lot seems to have changed since my last review, visited yesterday 05/08/2025 I had phoned beforehand to make the appointment was informed I had missed an appointment, it was a checkup that they had cancelled, this appointment was for a request for new NHS Dentures, long story short, I got told where to go for the dentures and was charged for a checkup, the receptionist could of told me over the phone who they would recommend for dentures, but no she obviously saw the chance to charge for a check up, I only have four teeth! I will not visit this dentist again, as far as I can see i've been wrongly advised and ripped off.

Fantastic experience: We always have great service at Damira Weston. The waiting room is clean and calm. The reception team are always friendly and helpful. Mandla our dentist is a great dentist and patient with my young children which is good when one of them used to scream at me having my checkup and now sits on the chair for her own checkup! I have had a few procedures and always been done swiftly and professionally. This is a good dentist and we are lucky to have a good one.

Positive experience: Great service. Had to get replacement dentures. They fitted my replacement dentures mould and the top dentures were great. Not happy with bottom dentures but they have said that it can be rectified. The dentist took there time to ensure that they got the fitting correctly

Fantastic experience: I visited Damira Dental Practice in Weston Lane, Southampton on 9th July for a routine check-up. As usual I was greeted by the friendly receptionist who made me immediately feel at home. Only a two minute wait and I was ushered into the surgery of Dr. Mandela Simelane to be greeted by Mandela with a big broad smile as his colleague invited me to sit in the chair. With his usual friendly manner my check-up was undertaken and no problems found. Thank you to Dr. Mandela Simelane and all of your team. Your surgery give patients like me, a high quality NHS service that equals private dental care.

Fantastic experience: I went there for a NHS check-up. Arrived 15 minutes early & was seen within a couple of minutes. I was told again about the need for a scale & polish, so booked an appointment for the following weekend. Again arrived early & was seen on time. Forms & health questionaries are emailed to you before the appointment, so you can fill them in advance.

Positive experience: *EDIT 3* (27 June 2025) I have had much better experiences at this practice recently. My daughter saw Dr Ariel Huang. She's very friendly, warm, and professional. The dental assistant/nurse was also kind and welcoming. The receptionist Kelly has also been much more kind and welcoming the last few times I have seen her. I am happy to recommend this place now. *EDIT 2* (Dec 2023) I'm not sure what happened to Mary (the receptionist) but there is now an older lady called Kelly who is possibly the worst receptionist I've ever had the misfortune to interact with. She's incredibly rude and mean and actually makes me feel scared to call up! Even my toddler is scared of her. She's condescending and talks over me, even raising her voice to drown out mine. Absolutely shocking. She definitely gives school bully vibes. She needs serious retraining. There is another receptionist who is an absolute angel; I'm not sure of her name but she's very warm and welcoming and great with my toddler. She has long dark hair and tattoos. *EDIT 1* (2022) I have since had a much more pleasant experience 2 years from my first review. I now see a lovely female dentist. I am unsure of her name but she's late 20s/early 30s from a South Asian background. She is very good with people who have a phobia, such as myself. ---------------------------------------------------------- *ORIGINAL REVIEW* (Aug 2020) The dentist I saw was unprofessional and cold. I would avoid him if you are a nervous patient because he has no idea how to put your mind at rest. The dental nurses I've seen are even worse, they have no sympathy, no compassion, awful bedside manner and are miserable. I have been here twice and each time I left in tears. My boyfriend had to come and collect me from the car park where I was having a panic attack, sobbing with blood coming out my mouth from a highly traumatic extraction. I think the dentist's name is Dr Mandla. I don't know any of the nurses' names. However, the receptionist is very nice, I think her name is Mary.

Negative experience: On getting a denture was offered a temporary one with the understanding of getting a permanent one,at time I thought you have temp then permanent all for £300+but was unaware it would cost me nearly £700 if I knew that I would of kept temporary means temp i will check to see if this is right

Fantastic experience: I came down with toothache after biting into a baguette; I’m currently not working, so finances are tight, so I expected an extraction - easier on the wallet! Upon examination, it was two older fillings that had simply come to the end of life, so with an agreed price (fair) these were filled with a superior white filling over the old ‘dodgy’ amalgam ones. Quick, painless and efficient; a proper dentist! Thank you Damira !

Positive experience: The dentist that treated me wa pleasant and helpful. She did advise me that my dentures are reaching the end of their life expectancy and recomended a new plate. Unfortunately replacements for my exisiting plate are not available on the NHS and the replacement cost is £1370. This came as a bit of a shock and I don't have that sort of cash available. I believe that this is a rather excessive price and can only guess that it is the going rate.

Negative experience: To say it was bad is to say nothing. The dentist couldn't really explain to me why she couldn't remove my bad tooth, although that's why I came and made an appointment in advance. She hadn't even taken an x-ray yet, but she was already saying that the tooth would definitely break and the root would remain inside, they don't have specialists who remove teeth. But if I choose the private option of the service, they will find a specialist for me and the cost will be from £140 to £400!!! for tooth extraction! I asked to be referred to a specialist at the hospital, she promised to send me information by email and didn't. I seriously doubt the competence of the clinic, I don't recommend it.

Fantastic experience: Visited 20 of March. The new dentist is very friendly and my son was very satisfied. We will see how the feelings strong later. Till now, all is well. I am visit 4 May,Marta Santos is very nice and friendly specialist,I will see her again. 15 May is done a few things. I hope it will stay for long. Anyway, Marta was the best in that place and I hope she will stay there to see her again.

Fantastic experience: On the 13th of March I saw dentist on westonlane Southampton So199hl. I had to have upper teeth plate made as I was going away early may I asked if I could be an emergency. Yes I was told . I had no teeth for nearly 5 weeks I went in e very week to see if they were in Finely fitted 2 days before holiday the dentist was very good . Teeth looks lovely .but I could've done without the stress

Negative experience: Absolutely awful! The first time I have ever experienced pain in a tooth, I made an appointment and explained it to the dentist. I showed her the tooth. I was in the chair 2 hours, paid 460 pound for the privallage and she did nothing to the tooth, messed up another and I have been in pain ever since. Called 6 times to speak to the practice manager and I haven't heard anything from them.

Negative experience: The new call centre model is shocking. They take ages to answer calls and then have no genuine care for the situation. They left my young child in pain for 2 days. The minute I contacted my local practise, it was sorted. At the appointment, I could hear other people complaining about the same thing. Typical business trying to cut costs and take away the human approach to healthcare. Leave the resident receptionists in place and scrap that crap call centre. Your receptionists know the patients (especially your elderly and vulnerable patients), know the area and actually CARE.

Fantastic experience: Been with the practice for a couple of years. Always friendly and helpful. Went for a hygienist appointment with Ramiz. He's absolutely brilliant. Very skilled, checked on me throughout to make sure I was comfortable. I had quite bad staining on the backs of my teeth, which I wasn't sure would be removed in one visit. He not only cleaned it all but did a brilliant job through out. He then explained the enamel gel treatment that I went for, especially as only £5. I hope Ramiz is available at weston going forward! Negative experience: They are always late.. they said 15 minutes and I wanted 40… I was in and out with the dentist, who didn’t tell me how long the numbing in my mouth would last and also 3 hours later found a white long piece of cotton in my mouth that I didn’t know was there due to the numbing and the dentist not telling me anything.
